And keep in mind, Wittenmeyer covered the Cubs beat for years here in Chicago for both the Sun Times and NBC Sports Chicago, so he should be very aware of Jerry’s cheapness. What a clown.

Yeah, I just listened to the podcast and now I think Wittenmeyer is a dope. He mentioned how the Sox could pay Robert’s entire contract — well, sure they could Gordon, but look at who the owner is. Not.gonna.happen. Also, Wittenmeyer said that this would only be a one-year proposition for the Reds to acquire Robert so they aren’t going to want to pay too much. Huh? Does he not know about Robert’s team options for 2026 and 2027? This report lost all value once you realize Wittenmeyer is clueless.

Agreed. Do it. The cash included may counter Robert’s loss of value for being so bad last season. Pay up for the better prospects you want, especially considering two things — he’s your last good trade piece and god knows the Getz has cut the payroll so much ($67 million?) they have some money to burn.

We have a GM who got a mediocre return for Cease and chose to trade for Fletcher over McCarthy. Getz choosing Vargas over Keaschall wouldn’t be surprising at all. At least it looks like he may have nailed the Crochet trade.
