Very well done piece by Fegan on State of the Sox

Check your sources again. Benintendi won a GG in 2021, not 2019, and Tauchman never won a GG. -
I’d like to see anyone try to refute your point here and try to justify what Getz is doing.
-
And these veteran signings getting playing time over the Sox own young players (even if they all completely flop) is not going to be a difference maker in the season. It will be a losing season regardless. Which is why it would make more sense just to give the at bats to the young players. It’s like Getz is trying to continuously build a bad team full of mediocre veterans rather than just giving his own prospects a shot. The results will be a losing season either way so what is the point?
-
Eldridge. One for one swap. Unfortunately, that’s probably not realistic at all.
-
And he sucked last year after a good 2022 and 2023. He is turning 34 next month. Time changes everything. But I guess this shows us what Getz thinks about Fletcher and Colas. And since you kept ripping adding Taylor last offseason, shouldn’t you think this is a pointless/stupid move again this offseason?
-
Truer words have never been spoken. It makes zero sense, but the Sox are gonna Sox. Signing washed up vets last offseason worked so well to the tune of 121 losses and not giving young players enough at bats as a result. So let’s employ that strategy again this offseason! And you just know Drury is making the team as well. There quite simply is no fucking plan here.
-
Correction. The White Sox love their cheap washed up vets. The GM changes but the strategy remains the same.
-
Once Robert is traded, will this be one of the oldest outfields in baseball!? LF Benintendi (turning 31 in July) CF Taylor (34) RF Tauchman (34) / Slater (32)
-
$10 million? Oh yeah.
-
We managed to retain a reliever that not one other team in baseball wished to claim, even though he will only earn $190,000 more than the veteran minimum for 2025. That’s a far cry away from the initial excitement about flipping Wilson for another prospect when he was first acquired in the Cease trade. 🤣
-
No one wanted the guy at $950K. Not even big money for a mediocre reliever. Hell, the veteran minimum salary is $760K! Yet another indictment of our great GM.

Instead of the fluff pieces about guys showing up to ST in the best shape of their life, our guys show up already banged up or injured.

This is the White Sox way.

Sox looking at building in South Loop

Hilarious how he blames everyone but Jerry. -

Probably not in Jerry’s mind. What will the next location be that Jerry asks for taxpayer money to build a new stadium on? -
This is why people can’t always take you seriously and why you come across as biased. You say that the starters that Getz traded away will be selling insurance soon like Mena and Thompson, even though they had similar seasons in AAA as Burke and Cannon and Mena is only 22. Why are Burke and Cannon considered “strong starters” to you, yet Mena and Thompson are near guaranteed failures who will be selling car insurance soon?
-
Sweet, maybe they can steal away Getz first. Nah, he’s too easy for the Dodgers to rob come the trade deadline.
-
If the younger guys have zero upside, there isn’t a point to any of this. Drury does jack s%*# for the Sox as a player and as a flip candidate.
-
I called the majority of them bums and you called them a shutdown bullpen. So who was right? Tim Hill sucked with the Sox to the point that Getz had to DFA him — a running theme with relievers he acquires (once again, refer to thread title). Hill pitching well for the Yankees doesn’t do a damn bit of good for the Sox. Those relievers still bouncing around the league just means that Getz didn’t keep the right ones. Funny how your point was that Getz is acquiring bullpen depth he didn’t have last year, considering he made 15+ reliever acquisitions last offseason. So what is different about this offseason? Getz failed with the bullpen last offseason but he has surely nailed it this offseason while acquiring even less relievers?
-
Obviously they won’t be remembered because they will be DFA just like Getz’s great acquisition of Steven Wilson. And Getz already gave up prospects for these guys! Are you forgetting that? So you need to factor in whom Getz gave up for these guys in any mediocre trade return that Getz gets for them.
