  1. But, but, but, it was a good move since Getz was looking for leadership and he only cost $4.25 million. It just didn’t work out! Maldonado hadn’t had a good season since 3 years earlier. But it still isn’t Getz’s fault that Maldonado played like a 37 year old who should have retired.
  2. The Sox ended up signing him. I never said he was a savior. I’m not sure what your point is or what that Sox acquisition from last year has anything to do with Sasaki. Or are you just trolling?
  3. Untrue. More of you making up BS once again. I praised the Crochet trade. I also liked the Bryse Wilson signing. I didn’t think Fedde was worth signing last year but that was a huge acquisition for Getz. Unfortunately, he then blew it by trading Fedde and Kopech for trash. The majority of Getz’s other moves have sucked.
  4. Not really. I’ve accepted that Getz is a weak GM and the Sox aren’t winning anything anytime soon, especially with Jerry as the owner. Doesn’t mean I can’t call out all the stupid moves our novice GM makes.
  5. Dude. Click on the link. The move was bashed by everyone, not just posters you claim are “like me”. You are once again trying to re-write history to make Getz not look so bad. It was a terrible acquisition then, just as it is looking back at it today.
  6. Except Getz thought that veteran leadership actually outweighs baseball talent. He thought that a 37 year old catcher who was probably already done at 34 was still worth $4.25 million.
  7. This is a re-imagining of the initial response to the Maldonado signing. The majority of posters panned it from the start and said that Getz overpaid. Posters were saying last offseason that Maldonado deserved a minor league deal at best. Obviously, Getz’s grand idea of defense and leadership went straight to the crapper considering he acquired guys that couldn’t hit a lick, much less play defense or serve in a “leadership” role. And no, I don’t care about Jerry’s money, but that doesn’t mean Getz should burn it in a fire like The Joker in The Dark Knight. That’s $4.25 million that could’ve gone to an actual good flip candidate, like an Austin Hays this offseason. I know you like to defend Getz to the bitter end but it’s amazing that you are actually trying to justify the Maldonado signing.
  8. Last offseason, Maldonado was a free agent after an awful 2023 as well. No hindsight needed. Getz overpaid. Period.
  9. The Padres gave Oldy Moldy exactly what Getz should have given him last year, rather than $4.25 million guaranteed… ”Padres signed C Martín Maldonado to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.”
  10. Two huge losses, one big jinx by @caulfield12.
  11. I looked it up and was surprised. I always thought that teams usually sold for more than their Forbes valuation. Forbes had the Orioles’ valuation at $1.713 billion in 2023. The Orioles were sold for $1.725 million in March 2024.
  12. Haha, I like how in two posts, you both have basically described both ends of the spectrum for Wolkow’s potential career. Both are possible outcomes. Hopefully WestEddy’s comes true. But yeah, if he doesn’t improve on a 40% strikeout rate, he isn’t going anywhere. Luckily, he just turned 19 a few days ago and has plenty of time.
  13. I think we can all see how this is going to go down… “Ken Rosenthal and Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic report that the Dodgers are meeting again with Roki Sasaki on Tuesday.”
  14. Career ERA near 6. Career WHIP near 1.50. -1 career WAR. This guy is the very definition of suck.
  15. My first guess was suicide. 37? Brutal either way.
  16. You don’t fully know what WAR is then, but WestEddy did a good job of explaining it.
  17. The bullpen looks to be boom or bust to me. Getz acquired a bunch of relievers with some recent history of success, but not too much long-term success. With most relievers other than the truly “lights-out” top guys being fluky from year to year, it could be good or it could be awful like last season.
  18. Would even the biggest Sox fan in the world choose to play for Jerry and the Sox over the Dodgers?
