  1. Guys trying to avoid “the” record.
  2. You act like I don’t know this. You also seem to think that no GM under JR can have any success. Then how did 2005 happen? A GM under JR can also be terrible (see Chris Getz).
  3. Burger would be worth more to this team than both Eloy and Eder whether or not he was traded. Eloy is going to be a free agent once he is bought out and Eder may never even see the major leagues. Yes, with Eder, that is using hindsight but oh well. Maybe the Sox did sell Burger high but they got back crap. And Burger is currently at .770 OPS with a career OPS of .795.
  4. According to his Twitter, Stone says there’s multiple people to blame.
  5. The rumor is that the Sox payroll is getting cut to $100 million, which would be a bottom five payroll in the MLB.
  6. It likely still wouldn’t cost $25 million. And even if it did, many people would be happy that it would be $25 million less that Getz would have a chance to burn on terrible player acquisitions like he did last offseason. I’ve already listed out all of the bums he acquired in other threads, and yes they all cost a combined $25 million for a combined negative WAR.
  7. Is your narrative supposed to excuse Getz for his two starting lineup acquisitions in Fletcher and Vargas? Neither player is earning much money so your narrative doesn’t really apply, and yet they were who Getz still chose to acquire. We already know that Getz could have traded for Jake McCarthy (.829 OPS / 2.3 WAR) instead of Fletcher (.562 OPS / 0.5 WAR). And trading a 4+ WAR starter on a cheap contract for Vargas (.583 OPS / -0.1 WAR)? Brutal. I understand the narrative you are stating and there is some truth to it, but it doesn’t apply to these two specific awful acquisitions made by Getz.
  8. Exactly. Stone is trying to defend the root cause of all of the Sox problems — a meddling cheap owner who only employs neutered GMs. Embarrassing.
  9. I’m all for trading older expensive guys for prospects but in this case, the Sox would be better off if they had all of those guys back. A monkey could get a better return for all of them next offseason.
  10. The Dodgers and Cardinals are probably still laughing at Getz about that trade.
  11. Like I’ve been saying since the beginning of the season, a monkey throwing darts at pictures of players could do a better job than Getz.
  12. How sad is it that Getz basically negated his one really good offseason acquisition? He literally got trash back for a 4+ WAR starter on a cheap contract. Somehow we went from a bad GM to an even worse one.
  13. Yep, this embarrassing portion of the article says it all, and the last sentence is the kicker.
  14. We know what Sheets is, and it’s bad. DFA Sheets, call up Colas, and play Benintendi and Colas at LF/DH. But that would actually make sense.
  15. Yep. @Lip Man 1 is right and we will hear how he needs TJ in a few months, which will further delay his return.
  16. Which the author acknowledged in the article below, but also which makes Stassi a stupid inclusion. Getz wasted far more money on bums that actually played and were negative value. Stassi missing the season was no huge loss, other than it leading to more playing time for the horrible burnt toast Martin Maldonado.
  17. Wait, one more… The Red Sox just released 1B Dominic Smith. He’d be our best hitter by OPS before Vaughn. 278 PA .237 AVG .317 OBP .390 SLG .707 OPS 6 HR 34 RBI
  18. That’s because Beckham doesn’t have a disturbing egotistical need for a whipping boy like The Legend.
  19. You know the answer to this. The Sox have one of the worst owners in the MLB (probably THE worst), who won’t spend much money in free agency (largest contract is 5/$75M), and who promotes all of his most loyal and trusted employees to positions that they are not qualified for. He also won’t spend much money in the international market and pays more people to sell tickets than to perform scouting.
