  1. Not that Hahn deserves much credit for anything because he later chose Grifol, but Hinch was Hahn’s original choice before JR told him to go sit at the kiddie table while he brought back his old friend.
  2. His plan was to sign a bunch of veterans that are supposedly good leaders, may or may not still have their defensive chops, while none of them can hit a lick. Laying out a plan and following it doesn’t mean much if the plan is not very good to begin with. And the players I mentioned were Fedde, Lopez, Maldonado, Pillar, DeJong. Not many people would use the phrase “higher ceiling” in the same sentence with any of these guys.
  3. Speaking of Sox money, weren’t we expecting a signing since they just cut $8 million from the payroll by trading Cease, or is Jerry pocketing that cash?
  4. The answer is that we don’t know. It’s only for one year. Perhaps he would take the extra $1.5 million guaranteed that @Bob Sacamano just suggested over playing for non-guaranteed incentives on a contender. We also don’t know what the Sox were offering, or if they even made him a contract offer.
  5. Chris Young negotiated the Rangers’ TV deal?
  6. I’m not buying on Fedde. Pillar and DeJong aren’t solid at all but they are placeholders I guess.
  7. I’m not mad that they didn’t sign Lorenzen. It’s just more about the awful strategy that Getz has carried over from Hahn in free agency. Spreading out smaller increments of money to a bunch of mediocre veterans that will total a paltry WAR. Burning $30 million combined for replacement level players, or worse, is yucky to watch.
  8. Fedde, Lopez, Maldonado, Pillar, DeJong. $30 million of bad.
  9. He was referring to Montgomery being expected to be resigned by the Rangers over going with the much cheaper option in Lorenzen.
  10. Yes. The thought is that he hit his innings wall and got dead arm, which makes sense if you look at the innings he pitched in past seasons. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lorenmi01.shtml
  11. Or the key was for wise GMs to wait for the free agent prices to crash. Why would Getz be in such a rush to sign anyone when the Sox are a non-contender but the champion Rangers were smart enough to wait it out? It was not vital for Getz to rush to sign anyone. We saw Hahn do this all the time in the past as well. He rushed to sign the low to mid-level free agents that he wanted early, and better players ended up signing for less later on. Getz did the same this offseason.
  12. This one could make the Fedde signing look bad by the end of the season. Waiting to hear the argument that Lorenzen wanted to pitch for a contender… Fine, but Getz still gave Fedde 2-years and $15 million ($10.5 million more in guaranteed money than this signing) and he has had much less major league success than Lorenzen.
  13. Better take a picture of Little Nicky’s BA and OPS before the regular season starts.
  14. So this is pretty much the putrid starting lineup right?
  15. This is bold as hell after our last two big trades. We can’t wait until Moncada and Eloy are gone and Kopech just got demoted to the bullpen. At least one of the four big names from the two trades panned out to recoup this trade.
  16. Getz already traded for Fletcher for RF. Wasn’t that good enough for you guys?
  17. What did @Balta1701 say that you are referring to as “insane conspiracy theories”?
  18. Maybe Caleb is also a guy like Rodgers / Stroud / etc. that can make the WR. I’ll take 3 stud WRs for now but it would be nice if Caleb could also do this and set up Allen’s eventual replacement(s).
  19. Jerry Jeudy just got $41 million guaranteed from the Browns after four seasons of inconsistency. Yeah, I’m taking Odunze at #9 all day.
  20. The next Athletic survey will be fan “hate” instead of “hope”. Jerry has that one locked up over John Fisher as well.
  21. “Let me ask YOU a question. Do you have a billion dollars for my new stadium? No? Well, I wouldn’t have paid Michael Jordan $60 million dollars, much less this Jordan Montgomery fellow!”
  22. Montgomery is probably the biggest surprise. He is not tied to draft pick compensation like the other three players.
  23. Just heard on the radio that Crochet hasn’t pitched 4 innings in a game since college.
  24. This is probably the single best argument right here. Sox are going nowhere this season. Another year of control over Crochet for the Sox and in a trade makes way more sense than anything.
