  1. No wonder you love Getz’s offseason. You apparently love crappy overpaid players. Straw has had an OPS under .600 in both of the last two seasons. 3 more years and $19.25 million for trash. Yikes. 24: $4.5M, 25: $6M, 26: $7M, 27: $8M club option ($1.75M buyout), 28: $8.5M club option ($500,000 buyout)
  2. If you wait to sign guys, especially old guys like Maldonado that have declined drastically and no other teams want, you can likely get them cheaper. I hope Getz learns this when he gets to an offseason that actually matters. If Pillar makes the team, he will be a good example. Getz could have signed Michael Taylor, a much better player, for $1 million more. As long as JR is the owner and we have no hope of signing top tier free agents, these veteran signings will actually matter. And there’s a big difference in WAR between Pillar and Taylor. Getz literally cant afford to make bad decisions like that one.
  3. They don’t have enough talent to compete with the players that Getz chose to sign, so what’s the difference?
  4. He shouldn’t have signed Maldonado at all. Because he’s bad. But you know this already.
  5. No, just like I thought the Sox would be smart enough to never play Sheets in RF again.
  6. Maybe for targeting and acquiring good players, but Getz didn’t go after any because the Sox aren’t anywhere near a window of competition. So if you are a bottom feeder team, you can wait for the scraps, especially the guys Getz acquired. Was any team rushing to sign bums like Maldonado, DeJong, Pillar, Flexen, and most of the bullpen? What’s the worst that could happen if Getz missed out on a target? Nothing. They would still be bad, just as they were/are expected to be.
  7. Landis won five consecutive Gold Gloves with the Sox — 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, and 1964.
  8. “In my lifetime”, I think so, but Robert is up there. But @oldsox wins with Jim Landis being the all-time answer. Thankfully, no one mentioned a broken down Ken Griffey Jr. when Kenny acquired him.
  9. Exactly. If it was Jalen Carter (even with his off the field issues) and Odunze both available at #9 this year, I wouldn’t be as upset if they passed on Odunze. Not for this year’s group. But I guess we need a DE, not a DT.
  10. Could be. Especially if they don’t spend those freed up funds, which it looks like is the plan. Cutting a lot of payroll because they are expecting some awful attendance.
  11. She tried to play the sexism card for almost every situation. She’s a joke and good riddance.
  12. I assume this tweet may be related to your question.
  13. Shady as F. I’m sure you are spot on but I doubt it ever comes out.
  14. That could definitely be part of it. But also, guys are mostly ramping up their arms in ST rather than going all out with maximum effort like in the regular season. Pitching in ST was still a risk with Cease but going into the regular season and letting him pitch would have been even riskier.
  15. No, you’re right. It wouldn’t be bad at all, as Walker is the current starter. I still would prefer to grab a top 3 WR and have Poles do the same thing he did last year, sign a DE to a one year deal way late in free agency. It don’t work out with Ngakoue but I was fine with the strategy.
  16. Ah, nice, I missed the link completely. I only ever used that Cot’s site for the contract details.
  17. Bauer pitched like an ace for the Dodgers. His fall and termination had zero to do with his performance. I’m not sure what your point is with that one.
  18. I don’t see 2024 in there yet. I just found this site but don’t know how accurate it, and it looks like they are missing pre-arbitration salaries. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/payroll/
  19. My “may or may not still have their defensive chops” comment was mostly tied to Maldonado who was not good defensively last year, which may be age-related and therefore not likely to improve. I assume Lopez is still good defensively and both DeJong and Pillar are known for their gloves. But in the end, I don’t think their gloves will make up for their terrible bats.
  20. “Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort 'going to be listening' to offers for No. 4 pick“ Trade up to take Marvin Harrison Jr.! ?
