I don’t understand this mentality. The Bears gave Fields 40 games to prove he was a starting QB. Isn’t that enough? Some guys are just backups (see Trubisky). Poles is a moron if he intentionally took less of a return and hurt his own team just to pick a better landing spot for Fields.

If Caleb ends up being a bust, the Bears are flat out cursed.

Another K for Fletcher. He has been brutal.

The Sox would find a way to start him there.

Doesn’t say much about Fletcher that the Sox are looking to add another outfielder at this point.

It’s quite obvious that Poles overestimated Fields’ value and held on to him too long while every team that wanted a QB traded for someone else. Your example is an excellent one. The Bears traded a 5th round pick for a backup OL in Ryan Bates who was about to be cut, but Fields only goes for a conditional 6th rounder that could turn into a 4th if he plays enough? Anyone who thinks Poles didn’t screw up is wrong, period.

There were two very such posters here. I have no idea how any Bears fan thought he could become a good passer when he only ever excelled against garbage defenses. His first and only reads worked against garbage teams. Not against good ones. He’s a mediocre QB but he’s still worth more than what he ended up being traded for.

I’m hoping Odunze falls to #9. You know what’s better for a rookie QB than two stud WRs? Three. It also protects them against Allen inevitably aging out even if he signs a short-term extension. Not sure about Latham or Olu over Odunze, but I wouldn’t complain if Alt dropped to 9 and they took him. Stupid end of the season wins.

I smell bullshit. The Darnold return absolutely proves that Poles screwed up. And it also explains why Poles made sure to say that he made the trade that was best for Fields and the Bears. Poles wants to make it sound like he didn’t mess up the trade and that he was trying to help Fields with his ultimate location. But how was it the best trade for Fields? Pittsburgh had already acquired Russell Wilson to be their starter.

Good riddance. He was bad.

And not only that, but the Bills brought Trubisky back a second time to serve as their backup QB.

Look at the other QBs that were traded for higher draft value. Poles definitely waited too long. He wasn’t going to get a 2nd or 3rd but I wouldn’t be surprised if a team had offered a pick higher than a conditional 6th.

This could be it too. Poles might have been able to get a 4th rounder had he accepted an earlier offer. I think he was holding out for a 2nd or 3rd.

The rest of the league knows he can’t throw and is a RB playing QB.

And Bears fans. Clueless. A QB’s most important ability is to be able to throw the ball accurately, not run.

As much as I’d love to see him pitch, you are right and a bad team like this should not be jumping the gun on service time until more guys are ready.

Probably for the best. He can now use his one attribute. Velocity. Rather than throwing low to mid 90’s as a starter.
