  1. There are a few better players that signed for a pittance. You will say that they wouldn’t have signed with the Sox, but that would only be true if you could go inside all of their heads and assume they wouldn’t sign with the Sox for perhaps half a mill or a mill more over a contender, which you can’t.
  2. “Yes, yesss, give me more Getzy!”
  3. And he was just traded to Oakland for more of Jerry’s favorite — cash considerations, haha. So Speas couldn’t have been traded or cut prior to now to make room for Rodriguez? Asking for a friend…
  4. We didn’t. Jerry’s wallet did. ?
  5. Anyone I say, you will argue that they would’ve only signed with contenders.
  6. The Sox don’t usually like to admit that their acquisitions were terrible so soon. Probably after the trade deadline.
  7. So you’re saying we can hope to get back a Jose Rodriguez type prospect for some of these relievers? ?
  8. There were no position player free agents that the Sox could’ve signed that would’ve been better trade candidates than who Getz acquired in the offseason? None?
  9. Sure there were. Getz also acquired Stassi, whom the Braves are paying for. I’m not arguing every single sentence. $4.25 million for Maldonado and $3 million for Clevinger. Both were cheaper signings by today’s standards, were they not?
  10. They are on pace for a worse record than that already, without Popeye on the roster. But Leone is here…
  11. Getz signed both players because they were relatively cheap and JR would approve their salaries. Getz thought Maldonado could still play defense and Clevinger is decent starter for $3 million bucks. The end.
  12. I’ll believe it when I see it. I think people are greatly overvaluing what a good defense is going to do for the value of these names. They are not going to bring back much in the way of prospects regardless.
  13. By WestEddy’s excuse-making nonsensical thought.
  14. Let’s not pick and choose who is responsible for what acquisitions with no proof one way or the other. We know that Getz is the new GM and is responsible for player acquisitions. No excuses.
  15. They will continue to lose many more close games because their offense can’t score. That likely isn’t going to change.
  16. I would have non-tendered Lopez. He’s a pile of suck. Soroka, Shewmake, and Schuster to a lesser extent were worth the look. Not Lopez at $4.3 million when you already know what he is.
  17. Don’t forget — bullpen sucks. All true.
  18. You’ve been fluffing Lopez since Getz first acquired him and then touted him when he had a hot streak in meaningless ST games (Nicky Two-Eighty). The dude has a .628 career OPS. He had a .632 OPS last season. It’s what he is. Early season slump or not, he is never going to have good offensive numbers.
  19. You just made a great case for letting Sosa/Rodriguez play over DeJong/Lopez.
  20. For the Sox, a team that spends $1 to $1.75 million on starting position players or part-time starters (DeJong, Pillar), $4.3 million is too much to spend on an expected bench utility infielder.
  21. Exactly, but he’s starting. He should be a backup utility infielder like you said, but he’s also paid too much for that role ($4.3 million).
  22. You can’t bench Nicky Two Eighty from Spring Training.
