Of course not. I never said Pillar had any better options, just like most of the mediocre to bad vets Getz acquired this offseason.

Pretty simple. If Getz was given some truth serum, he would say, “We want you on the team but my boss doesn’t want to pay you the $3 million we had agreed to.” Pillar sure sounds pissed off that he is going into this level of detail, saying things like he has never dealt with a situation with a team like this, etc.

    Great question.
  4. It’s pretty shocking to me that they keep running their mouths about how great their offseason was. I don’t see the benefit in doing this when the team is most likely going to crash hard and fast in the standings. They are going to look like even bigger clowns once it happens. Do they think fans with a clue are also going to be “surprised” like them when the bottom half of the order that was acquired this offseason doesn’t hit a lick? Oh geez, I just don’t know why our offense is struggling with DeJong, Lopez, Maldonado, and Pillar at the bottom of our lineup? Aw shucks, it’s just not our year!

Braves signed RHP Jesse Chavez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
  6. What a leader. Sign him up. He can give the rest of the team the tough love that they need that Grifol is too cowardly to do himself.
  7. No conflict of interest there. Perhaps the Dodgers could have hired a second translator?

I was going to say this earlier that I still expected Shaw to make the roster despite his poor spring because his rubber arm makes up for Grifol’s poor bullpen management. Grifol loves Shaw because he can pitch so many consecutive days.
  9. Sign him to a minor league deal. He’d easily be our best starter. This team really can’t get any more embarrassing than it already is.

Oh, I thought you meant signing someone that actually cost money, not more cheap detritus.

Are you sure? It sure seems like Jerry wanted to cut the payroll even more after trading Cease’s $8 million, cutting Moustakas, and cutting and then resigning Pillar for less money.
  12. 9-20. A team almost has to try to be that bad, even in ST.

I might be reading your post wrong but Pillar was only guaranteed $3 million if he made the opening day roster. So the Sox just cut him and signed him back for less. He never received any of the $3 million. Now why the Sox thought Pillar could be worth $3 million dollars just less than two months ago if he made the opening day is another question.
  14. Wow, crazy. Grossman is old and I didn’t think he was ever a good defender but being worse than Sheets is impressive. With Pillar back, Sheets should just backup 1B and I guess he will DH against righties, even though he can’t hit.

The White Sox, where old bad players go to play for whatever they are offered.
  16. Hopefully. We don’t need to see Sheets in RF.

His stuff isn’t bad but he just can’t throw enough strikes.
  18. Hopefully, we will have a new owner by that time who would be willing to extend him.
  19. And they were replaced by the much more incredible bats of Paul DeJong (.612 OPS) and Nicky Lopez (.632 OPS)! Add up the OPS’s of Anderson and Andrus and then DeJong and Lopez for a hilarious surprise. They’ll play better defense but they won’t score any runs either.
  20. Sure, but the Sox still had two years of control on Cease and didn’t even get close to discussing what the price would be. So one could reasonably expect that this will happen with any other good player in the future, under the current ownership.
  21. Getz knows who butters his bread. He’s JR’s new loyal mouthpiece servant.
  22. Gotta love how the only way to “save” a JR-owned team is by trading their best players, rather than resigning them. JR is an embarrassment to competition. It’s too bad he didn’t just stick to real estate. Having an owner that just wants to make money rather than win is the worse possible scenario as a fan.
