  1. Landis won five consecutive Gold Gloves with the Sox — 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, and 1964.
  2. “In my lifetime”, I think so, but Robert is up there. But @oldsox wins with Jim Landis being the all-time answer. Thankfully, no one mentioned a broken down Ken Griffey Jr. when Kenny acquired him.
  3. Exactly. If it was Jalen Carter (even with his off the field issues) and Odunze both available at #9 this year, I wouldn’t be as upset if they passed on Odunze. Not for this year’s group. But I guess we need a DE, not a DT.
  4. Could be. Especially if they don’t spend those freed up funds, which it looks like is the plan. Cutting a lot of payroll because they are expecting some awful attendance.
  5. She tried to play the sexism card for almost every situation. She’s a joke and good riddance.

  7. I will be irrationally pissed off if they do. ?

I assume this tweet may be related to your question.
  9. Shady as F. I’m sure you are spot on but I doubt it ever comes out.
  10. That could definitely be part of it. But also, guys are mostly ramping up their arms in ST rather than going all out with maximum effort like in the regular season. Pitching in ST was still a risk with Cease but going into the regular season and letting him pitch would have been even riskier.
  11. No, you’re right. It wouldn’t be bad at all, as Walker is the current starter. I still would prefer to grab a top 3 WR and have Poles do the same thing he did last year, sign a DE to a one year deal way late in free agency. It don’t work out with Ngakoue but I was fine with the strategy.
  12. Ah, nice, I missed the link completely. I only ever used that Cot’s site for the contract details.
  13. Bauer pitched like an ace for the Dodgers. His fall and termination had zero to do with his performance. I’m not sure what your point is with that one.
  14. I don’t see 2024 in there yet. I just found this site but don’t know how accurate it, and it looks like they are missing pre-arbitration salaries. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/chicago-white-sox/payroll/
  15. My “may or may not still have their defensive chops” comment was mostly tied to Maldonado who was not good defensively last year, which may be age-related and therefore not likely to improve. I assume Lopez is still good defensively and both DeJong and Pillar are known for their gloves. But in the end, I don’t think their gloves will make up for their terrible bats.
  16. “Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort 'going to be listening' to offers for No. 4 pick“ Trade up to take Marvin Harrison Jr.! ?
  17. ST numbers don’t mean much but Fedde has pitched this spring about as well as he previously did in the majors for the Nationals — too many hits allowed and not enough strikeouts.
  18. Does anyone know where the Sox payroll is at after dumping Cease’s $8 million, while adding Stephen Wilson’s $770K or so?

It’s still funny to go back and listen to Hahn’s press conference when Renteria was canned and hearing Hahn describe the type of manager he was looking for. The description fit Hinch exactly, but later he had to announce the relic TLR as the new manager with a look of disgust on his face.
  20. It was obviously tongue in cheek humor, as Crochet hasn’t thrown anywhere close to starter innings since college, not even single game starter innings.

Not that Hahn deserves much credit for anything because he later chose Grifol, but Hinch was Hahn’s original choice before JR told him to go sit at the kiddie table while he brought back his old friend.
  22. His plan was to sign a bunch of veterans that are supposedly good leaders, may or may not still have their defensive chops, while none of them can hit a lick. Laying out a plan and following it doesn’t mean much if the plan is not very good to begin with. And the players I mentioned were Fedde, Lopez, Maldonado, Pillar, DeJong. Not many people would use the phrase “higher ceiling” in the same sentence with any of these guys.
  23. Speaking of Sox money, weren’t we expecting a signing since they just cut $8 million from the payroll by trading Cease, or is Jerry pocketing that cash?
  24. The answer is that we don’t know. It’s only for one year. Perhaps he would take the extra $1.5 million guaranteed that @Bob Sacamano just suggested over playing for non-guaranteed incentives on a contender. We also don’t know what the Sox were offering, or if they even made him a contract offer.
