  1. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 03:02 PM) The Sox pretty much have three options this winter for Danks: #1- Trade him, get little to nothing in return and likely pay at LEAST 50% of his remaining $15,750,000 in 2016. #2- Put him and his ridiculous contract in the bullpen, similar to what the Giants did with Lincecum. #3- He remains in the rotation, which pretty much would eliminate a spot for a possible Buerhle return. You CANNOT fill two rotation spots with both Buerhle AND Danks because as of right now you would have: Sale (L), Quintana (L), Rodon (L), Danks (L) and Buerhle (L). I just don't see an ALL lefty rotation in 2016, do you? Now if management trades Shark AND Q, then there might be a small chance of Buerhle returning even if they cannot move Danks. On a typical younger team, I would rather see some of the prospects in the rotation rather than Danks taking up a key spot. Guys who are getting close to being MLB ready are Frank Montas and Erik Johnson- we need to see them in the rotation soon. this is on me and i may be totally off based here. the sox will not do anything with Danks, b/c of, and i am guessing, a deal he made with the danks family. get rid of your agent, sign with the sox with the 2 brothers and the sox will pay you a nice salary.... pretty much like a Sale contract. however Danks got hurt. this is the kind of situation that agents will use against signing favorable team contracts. here is what i been thinking, can the sox go the same route as Keppinger ???
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) And who has supplied three different sets of supporting casts for the stars? Yeah, exactly. To call Bowman's time here anything but an A+ is awful. there are different layers of supporting cast members esp in hockey. for this, i will simple name this as the main core of players. i have said that bowman did a great job in bringing that one key element last yr thru a trade with phx. i still maintain that, and i will like to say, with out him, the hawks may not have won the cup. look at the other thread. however, my point of contention is this off season. Sharp needed to go for 2 reasons. one everyone knows b/c of the salary cap, but there is another reason. now, this trade was somewhat of a reactionary trade, a trade that needed to get done, b/c the hawks were caught flat footed during the draft for asking too much. that was also true with the bickell and i think with steeger as well. the gm was outplayed, out maneuvered on all 3 fronts. now lets look at what the hawks gave up, a #1 line of a quasi power forewards who plays the whole ice. they are not cherry pickers, they back check as aggressively as they fore check. they make the other teams make simple mistakes. they are responsible for their potions. that is Q style of playing hockey. one is 33 yo and the other is 22 yrs old. those traits are not easily taught. oh btw, they can score 20+ goals a yr to boot. the hawks also have a great group of d-man, in Q system they are the key to the team and it is hard to find the players who can play 100% in Q system. the hawks gave up 2 players who can slid in to style of play. so, i am talking about this off season esp on how bowman screwed up. i want the hawks to win.
  3. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) ...And sign Buehrle in the offseason. and why not, i would love for hm to come back. i can see, at least wishful hoping, he comes back on a team fav salary. danks and his contract is unmovable. the only way, not being in the pro ranks is to utilize him in a least damaging way for the team. how??? i don't know, the smarter people will need to figure that out.
  4. actually seeing how great this rotation is with Sale, Q as the ones that will stay. the sox added shark and this rotation look great, as i am talking about the top 3. now with the possibility of shark either getting traded or loosing him thru FA's, Rodon will step in as a 3rd. he still needs to develop. this system looks great..... add a young Fulmer later. i can see the rotation doing wonders in the future. now look at what the sox has developing in the minors for the #5 and on.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) WTF? The pitchers at Kanny have had nothing but great things to say on Alvarez' play. He makes some spectacular ones and has the quickness and range, but also boots some simple stuff. So yes, I'd agree he needs reps more than anything. But the tools are there. i am extremely happy about that..... but how bout that pitching staff. they are doing fantastic!!!
  6. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) That is my thought, too. Micah at DH. Keeps Sanchez at second where he can improve as a hitter and gives Micah the PA's he needs. the DH position has always been for power hitters. so using Micah as DH, i just don't know.
  7. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 12:31 PM) Teams weren't looking to trade at that point. Teams were and still are trying to decide if they are in it and how much that want to trade for it. Was any team making trades at that point? Even if they did try to trade him, the point is still the same. He is a free agent at the end of the year and the Sox will not get as much for him. You are just going out of your way to tear apart anything they do or don't do. Action for the sake of action generally leads to poor long term solutions. furthermore, some teams have already put their fore sale sign. yet no majjor pitchers have been traded. i don't know, nor do i have any inside info some my point is purely hypothetical, but i think some teams who might trade are waiting for some teams who has or would put out some players they need. if they are going to trade shark, now is the time.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 05:42 AM) The problem is Cabrera's not going anywhere...is one of our best hitters now...and we do need to see what Avi can do for the remainder of the season. Right now, things aren't too optimistic on the Garcia front. You need a lot more than 15 homers and 60-65 rbi's out of that position with what 3b SS and 2b are producing. problem for me, at least with Avi, i think he is really not hurting the team. i keeping looking at the age factor, his stats, 270+ 4hr and 70+ hits. i think that is ok, esp for some one as young as him. i expect that he will get better in future yrs. in another 30+ games he would be over the 100 hits for a season and his K's will be there as well. but it not like he is getting overwhelm by the pitchers.
  9. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 05:47 AM) I'd hope they trade Q for a solid young 3B and resign Shark with all due respect, i know you said hope, i disagree with your idea. Q has still put up good numbers, yeah he has been snake bitten by some horrible luck. Shark, is going the fa rt, no matter what is said and done. unless the sox comes up with a 25 + mil offer, he is not resigning.
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 01:42 AM) Anderson 1-3 SB Delmonico 1-3 2B overall what a great day for the minor league teams. some of the lower level players are just plain and simple raking..... nice looking youngsters there.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 03:47 AM) That's what I always come back to. There are some in Canada that think Crosby is better than Toews, he just hasn't been as fortunate to have the talent around him that Toews has. Whether or not you believe that, it does say something that Crosby/Malkin/Letang have won zero conference final games in the past 6 years that Toews/Kane/Keith have won 3 Cups. The supporting casts have made a huge difference. plus add to that a goaltender, 2 great d-man and a iron fisted coach who doesn't cuddle the susperstars. crosby is better tham toews in scoring, but can he play a team game, sacrifice individuality and play within a team system. (i hope i said right) Kane bought into that system and look at the forwards success. granted the 2 main workhorses are without a doubt, the d-man. there are sooo much pressure on chi d-man and they way the game plan is set up. lastly Q doesn't screw around with players and game plans. it is simple attack, move, puck movement and no stupid penalties. that is what i point of view.
  12. Runs Scored/Runs Allowed (full season) 645 ??? Record at the All-Star Break (88 games) 52-36 today 41-45 way off All-Stars Sale, J Samardzija, Robertson, Jose A, LaRoche, Alexei, Eaton and Garcia. my new prediction. Sale, Robertson Jose A. Games started at 1B by Adam LaRoche 63 Games started total by Gordon Beckham 77 as of today 30+ games... but has played in 71 so he should be close to 100 Total Team Homers 202 Carlos Rodon Debut Date and Role all star break Will Matt Davidson play for the Sox this season? Yes or No. yes injury replacement Samardzija contract- Signed in season, traded in season, unresolved on October 4 no Will Micah Johnson play a minor league game this season? (rehab assignments don't count) Yes or No. yes, needs more development. Will John Danks be on the Sox on August 1? Yes or No. yes Name a player the Sox will trade for in-season. name unknwn, position-pitcher. wow, i was way off.

  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 10:51 PM) I still have hope that LaDunn will get hot here any day now...isn't he traditionally a second half player? Hopefully he'll go on a tear right after the break. if the sox really have to eat a great amount of salary..... screw it. hold on to him and see how the 2nb half does. readdress it in the off season.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 10:49 PM) don't expect as much of a return this year. He only has 1/2 a year for the next team. Also, the players traded may have been MLB ready but they had serious flaws. They weren't really highly regarded prospects. an interesting point. never thought of it that way. so the question should be, do the sox want players who can fill the holes with a limited upside or what??
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 06:40 PM) Then we need some serious upgrades elsewhere in the lineup, with the bat and the glove, to offset Flowers's weaknesses. Can we afford to have Garcia starting a corner OF spot with Flowers behind the plate? Or Gillaspie/some sort of platoon at 3b? Or youngsters at 2b and SS? If you're going to be Tyler Flowers below average with the bat behind the plate and we also want to compete we can't be Garcia below average in the OF. We can't be Gillaspie/Beckham/Ramirez/rookies in the IF below average. flowers at catcher is doable, meaning the team can live with it, but 2b, ss and 3b players need to start hitting.
  17. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) .Put some conditions on the win. Q must get the W not just the team. Avi must hit 2 HRS etc. That way you need more than just the Sox win to be sucked (back in). i am with everybody here. if Q gets the win, i say screw the idea of trading Shark, just go for it. i think that this team will start to hit on all cylinders soon, it is like a sleeping bear this offense.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 03:51 PM) Not to mention the skewing that over half of that number comes from a history when only 2 teams made the playoffs, and another 30 years or so of the remaining sample comes from when 4 teams made the playoffs. Yes, 95 years of the 114 years worth of sample is when either 2 or 4 made the playoffs to skew those numbers. excellent point.
  19. i don't if this would interest anyone. i read this, this morning. nice read. old time hockey in a different era. http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/rangers-...ht-of-all-time/
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) I know its just the win talking but I like the lineup yesterday without LaRoche in against the lefty. i know it is a waste of the spot in some sense. but i still like it when they had Jose A. batting 2nd. etc.....
  21. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 07:38 AM) http://www.fangraphs.com/community/chris-s...-dominant-june/ For anyone who didn't want to read those glowing numbers, in the month of June, Sale had the most dominant Fastball....Change-up.....AND slider. They credit him with throwing a sinker as well, but I think that's just the computer systems fudging data or him slipping with a pitch. The most interesting thing of note you may not have EVER guessed? Check the table at the bottom and see who threw the most valuable sinker in June... nice find..... many thanks. a sinker uh....
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 04:42 PM) On one hand, it's the Twins who are 5.5 games ahead of us. On the other, there are about 8 other teams in the race as well (in some ways, the Cubs probably have the same hesitancy about "going for it" this year as we have about trading Shark when the team's finally going on another hot streak). Was listening on the way back from the game Thursday afternoon....B&B Show quoted that something like only 6 out of 944 or 946 teams in the history of MLB have made the playoffs with a record of 5 games under .500 or below on July 9th. So, you have the possibility of sneaking into the last WC spot and getting Chris Sale a start...or sitting on Samardzija until July 31st and hoping his value continues to increase as his ERA comes down into the 3's and he's had a stretch of almost 10 starts with an ERA in the 2's, and pitching deep into games. Certainly, playing the Royals coming out of the ASB will be huge. With Gordon out, Buxton out, Cabrera out...there's an opening to make up some ground. Sooner or later, they'll have to beat some AL Central teams head-to-head or fold. what is the old cliche.... it is not over until it is over.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 01:56 PM) I heard that too, but you have to think a second wild card changes that true, but i am truly at an impasse, my logic says it is a huge uphill battle, the sox didn't have any luck this season but bad as a team. sell shark to the highest bidder now. but the diehard fan in me is saying, those odd can be overcome. this starting 3 pitchers in the playoff..... wow, look out.

  25. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 07:41 AM) Are you talking about Daley? Isn't he considered a speedy, offensive D-man? Or maybe I'm coming in to the middle of a different conversation. i really don't know what he is talking about.
