  1. ok i am sold, fvvck it in trading with them.
  2. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) Yup. How many times have us Sox fans complained about players defensively having their heads up their asses? Now we want to add another? Lol. Good point on the adjustment to AL pitching. a very good point there.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) Use the simple ones. Castro has a .658 OPS this year. Castro had a .631 OPS in 2013. Those numbers are really bad unless a guy is a plus defender which Castro is not. His OPS in 2014 was .777 which is a really solid number in this league even if he's not a great fielder, but 2 of the last 3 seasons he's been really rotten with the bat. thanks i understand that now.... it is kinda of simple.... jeez. but how bad is he defensively??
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 07:15 PM) The one thing that does seem a bit scary even if you are of the belief TJ surgery is no big deal, it's not like this guy has a lot of pitching under his belt. He blew it out quickly. Maybe I am way off, but that would make me think he is a guy who would be a good candidate to have this surgery again. wasn't there talk about him being a catcher as well?? with a possibility of a recurring injury and surgery..... there is always that possibility. but then again, he will be rehabbing with the sox people which i would trust more than college coaches.
  5. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 06:12 PM) Excluding this year's salaries. Danks is owed 15.75M on the remainder of his contract while Castro is owed 40M+. I just prefer the Sox to have that financial freedom for future teams. Exactly. Castro's defense and lack of hitting this year does absolutely nothing to inspire me to trade for him. i understand what you and Balta are saying, but outside our present SS and who is at SS in the minors, Anderson being at least 2 more yr of development time, i was thinking, wouldn't he be a good replacement?
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 05:20 PM) This. At least Eklund gets one rumor/trade right out of every 50. Jaeckel is batting .000 Kane was suppose to be dealt every year according to him. that is why i really don't look at any of the publish rumors on nhl rumor site. they are all horrible.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Not if Castro is performing like this. It actually would make us worse. well i will give way to you and all on this point. i really don't follow the northsiders and i am looking at the only the stats for the last 2 yrs, i am way over my head on this stats that you use.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 05:55 PM) Reminder ... the White Sox are doormats of their own division. They STILL can't win division games. Maybe this upcoming sweep at the hands of Minnie will finally convince everybody the Sox are finished in 2015. This team blows, folks. Even on a day Melky gets five hits we win by one run. Even with a staff with FANTASTIC starting pitchers Sale, Q and Rodon and a serviceable 4 in Danks plus a fantastic closer we are 10ish below .500. This team blows. That said, I hate the draft and want all the wins the Sox can muster with this wretched team. i will acknowledge your opinion, but i am looking at the little improvement like hope. like taking baby steps. for me, and maybe i am out of my mind, i still have a little hope. i really can't figure when to call it a wasted season.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) He got $200k vs $213,400. But more accurately I used the term "discount" to mean what he got this year versus what he would have gotten in the 2nd or 3rd round for a bonus. If he had been our 2nd round pick, he would have gotten $1.25 million for slot. That is a literal million dollar discount. Versus a 3rd round slot, the Sox saved $600,000 for Hickman. money wise, contract signing and all, i really don't know. what i like is, he will be under the sox medical people in rehabbing. so he will doing it the right way.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 05:50 PM) His tools alone are enticing. If you value ceiling over floor, you value him higher than someone who values floor over ceiling. Guys like him, Thompson, Rodriguez, Guerrero, Ortiz (before the injuries) etc. I've liked more than others in the past. my take is the sox prospects, according to this ratings, #9-19, excluding #11,12,14 and 18, will need to improve a lot in order to improve their position as a major prospects. i have no faith in them.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 05:49 PM) So far this year, Starlin Castro has been worth -0.4 fWAR, John Danks has been worth 0.6 fWAR. Castro was a solid player last year, 2.7 fWAR in 2014, but he was a negative player in 2013 as well. I'd probably still take his contract on since our SS position is a gaping hole, but this is closer than the immediate responses make it sound. the problem for me, is not knowing those advance stats. but for me, getting rid of danks and his salary vs who can help now and in the future at SS does that for me. it is a win - win situation.
  12. QUOTE (midway @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 06:32 PM) This may not be the right place for this, but as frustrated as I am with the Sox play this year there are other teams around that had high expectations going into this year that are playing really horrible. I just looked at the standings and am really surprised at the teams that spent a ton of money and how poorly they are doing. Out here in the PNW Seattle fans are really pissed, the Red Sox still had crappy pitching even with all the money they spent. In the NL look at the Marlins, Padres and the Arizona...and oh yeah, I'm sure the Cleveland fans are happy. Just saying here that a lot of teams that spent big this past winter had high expectations and are playing horrible baseball so it's not only us Sox fans that are disappointed with their teams play. I'm so happy to have found this board and able to read so many great comments...most are really great to read and some others have me laughing like crazy, but that's the point. So many diehard fans with different opinions make an interesting morning read. Thanks to all the people who put in so much work to make this board go. as a diehard sox fan, i am not necessarily frustrated, as i am more angry with how the sox and GM kind not finished the job and in a way tried to downplay it, i guess it is more of an insult to my intelligence.
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 06:25 PM) I know, it makes zero sense but then again we are talking about cub fans. Honestly, I wouldn't even trade Danks for Castro. In fact, there's nothing the cubs could do or say to get me to trade for Castro. The guy is a complete bonehead and would be one of those idiots that smiles after he makes a game changing error. Nope, cub fans are stuck with that guy. i hate the northsiders but if the sox can get rid of Danks and his contract, i am all for it.
  14. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 05:47 PM) Focusing on a positive here. The starting rotation is mapped out well over the next year or two. Sale, Rodon and Q have their spots in the rotation. Erik Johnson seems primed to replace Samardzija when he departs. Assuming the Sox sign Fulmer, he will be developing during the 2016 season which is Danks last season so hopefully Fulmer is ready when Danks becomes a FA. At this point, things are well lined up for the starting rotation. as of today, at this time. taking into all the little things into account. the sp is Sale, Q, Rodoon, Montas, Fulmer Lowry. the one with question marks are Beck and Danish. the reason i am saying question marks is the sox are still not sure if they are starters or rp. edit ... at this point, the sox sp depth, is really looking good in about another yr... 2017 i think
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) I think even the most optimistic of us realizes the odds are stacking against the White Sox. But regression to the mean tells us the team should, at some point, start performing better. The offense cannot be this bad. Every year is different. I still hope the Sox get on a roll, and think they will at some point. I don't know if it will be enough, but stranger things have happened. They were 55-27 in 2006 after going 11-1 in the playoffs and never not being in first place the season before. They didn't make the playoffs. Some teams that are playing well now, won't continue to play well. Some that have been not so good, will get better. you make a point, a very good point. but as you said, many teams will have to correct themselves. however, i am in a dilemma, if the sox takes the chance now in trading, the rtn may be extra, instead of waiting for over the ASG. however, the sox may pull this out, and do well.... but do they take that chance?? it is sooo confusing to what they should do.
  16. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 03:30 AM) Yea the Sox ACE guy. Wtf? the About Amateur City Elite (ACE), it is a great program setup up by the sox for the city school kids. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/charit...rograms_ace.jsp
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 03:40 PM) And knowing how the White Sox grow pitchers, they are probably making him work on his second and third pitches at the expense of his first pitch. you have a point, this is the time to work and develop. how he does, i really don't care, at this time. for me, it would be how is he developing. as many have stated, he is 19 yo. let him get over his bumps now. learn how to pitch instead of throwing. he is going to be really good when he gets over these little bumps.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 22, 2015 -> 04:02 AM) Dan wrote a short and sweet post about how being a draft pick in MLB isn't like other sports. No lag time or prep time at all. Something to consider when talking about these guys. You should read it. nice article. i also like it b/c he was with the sox in their, i think it is ACE program or something like that.
  19. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 07:37 PM) That makes more sense than "wasting his good years" or whatever nonsense they call it. It's the best value for performance contract for the organization. Aces will soon be topping $200M. while you are correct in the statement of value for the contract, you also have to admit that Sale is undoubtedly the #1 sp of this rotation, based on his talent alone. his contract is a fantastic one for the sox.
  20. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 11:33 PM) Even if the Sox made decent progress but still missed the playoffs this year, wouldn't the organization still have to consider an upgrade at Manager? This would be the 4th year in a row Ventura's team missed the playoffs. The fact that this team is this bad even after all the additions means that Robin BETTER be fired.Fans have questioned his managerial decisions more than ever this season. I'm calling it now: After the final game of the regular season: The White Sox AND Robin Ventura mutually agreed to part ways. Jerry loves him too much to publicly 'fire' him but this is going to happen. Cooper once again will have the option to stay under the next manager, but all of the other coaches will be fired. I'm calling it now, Hahn will be forced to try and convince Konerko to be their next manager. :huh and it will be another mistake. the sox need at this point someone who has coaching experience.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) http://espn.go.com/blog/buster-olney/insider/post?id=10467 Buster Olney argues for a trade of Sale. nice find, i kinda of missed it. but either way, nice reading.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 07:44 AM) I'm getting tired of hearing "the Cubs won't give up blank for Sale/Q cause they're the real deal." Then they don't get Sale or Quintana. Sale had the highest value in baseball and Quintana's is also extremely high. the sox like philly with Cole Hamels, are in the drivers seat. the sox can state they will expect a king's ransom and if the teams comes a calling fine.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 02:27 AM) I'm like you LDF. I have NO interest in the draft. When they get to the bigs, wake me up. Rodon had some nasty strikeout pitches today, but if we didn't take him, I feel like we'd have taken somebody else with great ability. The draft bores me to no end. many poster have their fav's in ref to baseball. can't argue against any of it. i like to clarify something, i like the draft and search of players ALOT. i get bored really easily and i need to keep my mind going. of i follow the draft. but right now, it is, for me, draft hangover. now i want to see some baseball and minor league baseball. when the cape cod opens up, midseason i start looking at the stats and start to remember. but that is me.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 12:25 AM) Virtually none. Both are gap hitters. ummm thanks. i would like to see how they develop.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 09:54 PM) He did give Borchard the highest bonus ever at the time. I do think his failure spooked the team. it like the little kid who burns himself, did he learn from his playing around with fire. the analogy is wrong, but the idea is there. just b/c they fell flat on their face, you pick yourself up and try again. the sox org does not pick themselves up....... they kinda of wither in pain on the ground.
