QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 11:17 PM) Sox will wind up with a top three pick this time, bank it. the draft is what it is going to be, i really don't care until aug or sept. i am a sox fan and i want them to win. even if the team makes trades, i do not care. i will eventually start thinking of "wait to til next yr" -
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 10:26 PM) Can't help but think about a nice high draft pick next year but it's a trifle bit early to even think about who. That said, even at this point with how dreadful the season has been I'm not hoping for losses.....yet, too soon for that. Great to see Rodon pitch well and important for Robertson to bounce back. The offense though, still yuck. you may have missed my whole point. beside trying to figure if the sox org draft pretty much like the other teams, trying to predict the draft is a crap shot. if anything i kinda of proved it with my fav's that were selected all over the draft order. for me, i love the challenge, enjoy seeing the young players develop and see how they progress over the yr. for me, the season for next yr college draft eligible players start at cape cod league. i really enjoy this part of baseball.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 11:36 PM) Not sure, DeMichele has been holding his own in AA this year. imo, it doesn't matter. they are both 2b/ss. i like what i see this yr ref to their offensive stats. lets see how they continue to develop. the 1 question i have on their makeup or profile, how much power do they have???

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) Laumann said in the first several rounds they always draft best player on their board. He said in the later rounds they may Pock someone based onposition of need. next yr, i haven't gotten a good feel of the players now. but when and cape cod season starts and ends. so far i like AJ Puk. plus i don't know of what ever college players will be eligible for 2016 draft.

QUOTE (Real @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 10:19 PM) when a 100+million payroll team approaches top 5 overall pick, you'd have to think someone is gonna lose their job. you have to remember who the owners are. look at the history of the sox draft and minors system. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) Dude's a f***in' tool. Anyone need more proof? Go read through this thread, see how often he was wrong, and then see how many times he admitted it. calling him that is not kool, anyway that is between him and the admins. btw, there are many, many posters who will not admit to being wrong even when proven. they would just disappear and reappear as if nothing happened. so what, this is not a debating competition, even sometimes i wonder. anyway, i like the way he post. i know i would have to have all my facts straight, which in it self shows and puts the accountability factor on the poster. to tell their opinion and backup if stating facts.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 09:37 PM) Sure, they're performing to expectations, but they would have sucked anyway. It's really poorly put together baseball team. i will disagree to a point. i will say there is something not working and it is not the talent.

totally unrelated to the game. love that Australian female sprinter...... she is HOT.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) I wonder how many people want them to lose so changes will be made. So you must be eager for the Sox to draft another pitcher. Maybe they do that so they don't run position player prospects. if there is enuf of a spread between getting pitcher or hitter, and the player with the highest upside is a pitcher. then yeah i would always love another Sale.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) In not excusing KW either. I'd fire his ass too. Hell, Herm and Coop are the only people in the entire organization I'd hang on to. and that is another of my half points. this team is way under performing, no one can be really be blamed, unless you look at the previous yrs or history of that person.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:54 PM) Abreu was always KW's guy. The off season moves were all dumb and shortsighted. They committed way too much money for a closer on a bad team. They traded Semien for a rental. Cabrera sucks. The Laroche signing was solid. Even if those moves all worked, I've never seen a worse fielding MLB team assembled. We're atrocious defensively on paper and worse on the field no and this is going to be technically kind of answer. JR told KW to go and scout him. KW called JR and raved. JR then went and beat all other offers to sign him. so technically it was JR who negotiated and signed him and as a default signed under Hahn's watch.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 04:17 PM) I think it's a fair return. You have to remember that teams know that the Hawks are in cap hell. They know that the Hawks will essentially do anything to get rid of Sharp, despite not showing that hand now. They will end up waiting it out and realizing that no one team will take Sharp while giving up a lot. He's not the player he used to be. Even when he was a good player, he was nowhere worth 5.9 million annually, which is what he's due to get the next 2 seasons. excellent point a process of elimination based on the need of the club to get out from under the contract. however you also provided excellent reason why it is still needed. very good. now i have to look into what you are saying to have to rethink my thought process. many thanks.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) Didn't KW sign Abreu? The Rodon pick was a no brained. Frankly, we got lucky no, but with Rodon, it was still done by him, whether its was a no brainer or not.
-
QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) Aside from the Sale and Q contracts, Hahn has been a complete failure as a GM. when things are going as bad as this, it is really hard to judge the FO this yr, unless you look at past yr and teams performance.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 05:35 PM) I can and do blame Rick Hahn. That comes with the job. He took a swing and he whiffed. And it's not like Hahn hasn't had a hand and voice in the management of this team for the last several years. I think the Sox could really benefit from having a team president not named Kenny Williams. with what you said, i can agree with it. as you pointed out and i will add this, no one outside the sox FO can tell how much voice and input KW is providing. even if he is the president of the org.
-
QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) Rodon is a top 5 pick as a result of a bad team that Hahn put together Fulmer is a top 10 pick as a result of a bad team that hahn put together. Also note that he hasn't thrown one pitch of professional ball yet. Adams might be a good pick and he might not be. He's holding his own in Low A. No reason to get excited for another couple of years. Anderson isnt exactly lighting the world on fire in AA Garcia has been good overall. Considering they only gave up Peavy, the trade is a win. How much of a win we don't know. I will say that While Garcia is better than what we have, he's also a guy with a .733 OPS and a 104 WRC+. he's been good, but lets not go overboard. Couple that with defensive play and it is what it is... Acquiring Montas was a good move, but this season his K's are down and his walks are slightly up. he has talent, but he has more seasoning left. Abreu was a good signing.Better than anything they had. I hope being in the organization doesn't hamper his ability. I'm not going to brag about Eaton. He hasn't been good this season and he has an attitude problem. That trade is 50/50 right now. I hope Eaton will be the leadoff man for this team for years to come, but he has an 84 WRC+, his walks are down, his K's are up, he can't steal bases,. and his defense isn't that good. By this organizations standards, he's an improvement, but thats not saying much. i am lost in this, it appears that you are just looking at the negatives to make a point.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 07:38 PM) http://espn.go.com/blog/buster-olney/insider/post?id=10467 Insider article, but Buster Olney said basically what I did about Sale. He also said that it'd be pretty tough to get value for him because his value is so high. basically the same thing i am believing. even tho i was throwing ideas out there. the bottom line, the cost will too high to get full value for Sale, esp with his contract.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) I would disagree thathat ththat there was no excuse. He was attempting tl bring other owners in line with bei g fiscally responsible for the greater good of baseball. He had said many times that he was concerned for the viability of mlb if the signing bonuses for players who may never make the mlb continued to rise and there was no cap. Eventually he wonand there is the slot and penalty system thethey hthey have today. It is not a hard cap but at least it somewhat limits the whoever can spend the most philosophy. Now did that hurt the sox in the short term, yes. However, it did help the viability and competitive balance of the game. and all that is good, but in doing so, completely weaken the sox system. now, after this cap situation is somewhat resolve, he could completely go all in on this yr int'l draft and infuse the system, and pay the penalty of the act. which is still within the CBA new rules.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) We don't have the money to fill 6-7 positions in the starting lineup with "fully viable players" unless we get some into our system to fill slots cheaply. With 0 contributions from our farm system and money tied up in the starting rotation and bullpen...it is literally the only option. without any discussion on anything else, the failure of the minor league does put pressure on other areas that the sox won't address.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) Fine...then there is 1 requirement. Give me a roadmap to fixing this offense in 2 years that actually works. It can't rely on magic, it can't rely on Abreu and Eaton becoming their 2014 selves because they might not, it can't rely on Garcia being much better than this, it can't rely on Tim Anderson, it has to be done using the stuff in our system and a handful of additional free agent signings but still bargain basement ones because we have so many different positions to fill for 2017. I for one would look at that and say "I can't do it", but then I'd end up fired as a GM, so I might as well trade Quintana and see if that fills a few of the holes. the bargain basement specials. those reclamation players and counting on them to produce instead of really addressing the need to fully get viable players.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 02:32 PM) I liken it to a cute toy. I went back 5 years to look at previous comp rounds to see what people got out of them. From the comp round 5 years ago, only a handful of players have made the big leagues at all and the total bWAR out of that comp round is negative. If you go back 6 or more years you find that about 50% of the players taken in the comp round make the big leagues and usually out of 20-30 picks you find 2 really solid, all star caliber players. Even given the salary flexibility...I would much, much rather have a single player who is performing at AAA than a comp pick. Far higher chances of them becoming a useful big leaguer overall and you don't have to wait 5+ years for them to arrive at the big league roster. "Comp pick in 2016 = 2020/2021 arrival for a normal team and 2022/2023 contributor, with a 50% chance they never make it to the bigs at all and an 80-90% chance of not being a contributor" interesting point. i look at the comp as i look at the draft in recent yrs. the draft and players are a better, talented young players. i think the players are getting better.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) Lots of the bad drafting is also on Jerry Reinsdorf too though. Kenny likes tools, athletic types. JR didn't like draft spending though. That's how you end up with the Jared Mitchell's and Keenyn Walkers of the world. Jerry would much rather pay guys like Juan Pierre $5 million than put that cash into the draft. That has changed since the slotting system but it shouldn't have taken that for you to draft well. you make a good point. by default if falls to the owners. so now, it has comes to a head. nasty minor league teams with no help to help the parent team and the financial cost of baseball has gone so high, team needs to have the farm systems that develops viable prospects.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 01:34 PM) I have no problem with Robin going to Robertson. 125 pitches last outing, 111 this, as Robin said he has to protect the crown jewel plus they have a $14 million a year closer that hasn't been used. Last year Trout homered off Sale with 115 pitches with nowhere near Robertson in the pen, and in hindsight he was called an idiot for leaving him in. People have been saying this season is over. If you believe that, why would winning last night be so important you would be willing to risk Sale's health? One sad fact, since 2012, Sale has 4 starts where he has gone at least 8 innings without giving up an earned run and didn't get the win, Hopefully some of the guys can learna lesson from Robertson owning up after the game instead of hiding like Alexei did when he blew the game. well said....... ref the bold, can you pls expand on that for those who live outside ILL. before they move this thread, start a new one. i hope you don't mind. many thanks.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) If you think hahn is struggling to do a good job, and it sounds like you do, it would be even harder if he had more responsibility placed upon him without KW to help. It may not be directly on the field tomorrow but it would show up moving forward. ok i see your point, but it still do not excuse KW failure of the past, excluding the WS win, the state of the system, esp in the minor league can be trace directly back to KW.

well yesterday game fully shows the state of this season. now my rant is on taking or not taking Sale out of the game. RV did the right thing. the sox has a closer and granted he didn't do the job,but taking Sale out of the game was still the right move. it is a damn if you do damn if you don't know move. my reason is simple, what would posters have been saying if he was still in there and then got hurt, i mean a TJ kind of injury.
