  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) But I find the notion that we sent SEALs and/or mercenaries into New Orleans to shoot looters from the rooftops ludicrous. What, exactly, would be the upside? Further, even if we were to believe that the Bush administration was capable of ordering such a thing and that they found willing participants at Blackwater to carry it out, we’d also have to believe that no one who knew about the order—and there would have had to have been dozens, just from a planning and logistical standpoint—objected strongly enough to speak out. The author's counterargument in the same article. that is the freaking name of the comapany i was talking about, but they had in french.
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) With the hard-on the media had about the government's response to Katrina, you don't think someone would have written a story about 20-30 bodies found with bullet holes from rifles shot at great distances? I mean that one is totally implausible. Edit: not to mention you'd have thousands of people in and around the superdome that would be hearing those gunshots, and helicopters circling the city almost nonstop that probably would have seen him. that is all too true.
  3. this is a true story from someone who was not near Katrina the aftermath and of Rita and after. the government hired a special security forced to help police the area. they wore all black and purple uniforms and had a special FRENCH name of their company. but most were ex-american military, make 15,000 a month. they were shipped in from Europe. they went where the military couldn't and b/c the government didn't want to be pegged as sending US military shooting americans. i know this, b/c i owned a store and i was with the rebuild after Rita the tues after the storm. i had to deal with these men. great guy but a little crazed. the curfew was on and they patrolled the harsh areas. so if i hear of someone here at that time and couldn't name the company, they are bulls***ting. it was a crazy time and we had to be armed at all times. many killings of those burglarizing stores and homes. the local government was really trying to downplay that. that is the truth. peace
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 09:06 PM) This is definitely not the time to be disappointed at all. The Christmas analogy was great. People are being brats if they want more right now. Time for players to achieve 2015 is going to be a great season.... do not get me wrong on this. i can't wait for the start of the season. but at the same time, lets not pull the wool over our eyes.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 07:44 PM) Amidst all that chaos though? I dunno, I wasn't there, but I seem to remember pandemonium for a few days there. These guys make a living of being unseen. It wouldn't surprise me at all. i live down here and there were random shooting. but no one knew what was happening. my friend had the military with him when they were working on the electric lines. so anything can be said and how can it be proven???
  6. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 07:36 PM) They came off as a total clown shoes organization with that episode. well i will disagree, and i hate all things sCrubs. but either way, i guess today is a real bad day to post. i can't do anything right.
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) If you're talking about the same town, it wasn't destroyed by him. It was destroyed in retaliation for his assassination. and if you are soooo determine to prove yourself right, then make the correction that the 10,000 people were killed in retailation as well. so give me a freaking break. i think you know what i was saying.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 05:19 PM) It is true the Cubs far outdraw the Sox, and that it would be great if more Sox fans showed up for games (and I think a lot more will this year, though not nearly enough to catch the Cubs yet). It is also true The Cell is a far better destination for kids, which is something that will help the Sox while the Cubs don't get that advantage. It is also also true that a guy in Ricketts' position shouldn't be saying stuff like that because it makes him look like an unprofessional buffoon. couldn't put it better. nice job.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 04:40 PM) I was being sarcastic, they come off as assholes. lol..... it didn't come across like that. i was wrong. but still it is a masterful way of drumming up a good will for the northsiders. s
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 05:46 PM) FWIW Kyle told an almost definitely made-up story about him and a sniper buddy going to New Orleans right after Katrina and shooting dozens of people from the top of the Superdome. That would make him a mass-murderer, but it was something he was trying to brag about. He also just seemed to have incredibly simplistic "good guys versus bad guys" views of the world. jeeze.... you are sure right about that. a great find on the story.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) Tom Ricketts, master of the media https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqcHe0xNSxI oh man i am going to hate this, but this was a nice show. how come the sox can't do something like this. shows the difference in media importance.
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 04:53 PM) To be fair, in WW2 the Germans used snipers to defend against the oncoming Allied Armies so it was slightly different circumstances. They had guys hiding in vacant cities just picking off dudes to slow down the advance. ahhh just another army way of using snipers. i am sure, as much many will dislike it, they used snipers to help save lives, german lives. this movie is and should be taken as an entertaining movie. the principals of whether it is right / wrong, that should be for another post. the story of the man, if he is a nice person, is another story, but should it take away from the movie???
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) I dont think you have to be pro-war to be a fan of Kyle or this movie, because I certainly do not agree with it, however I understand his primary job was to protect the Marines on the ground from surprise attacks in an urban setting. For that he is a hero to me even if I dont agree with being there in the first place. my point is snipers are a necessary piece of equipment that is needed in war. whether most like to think it is cowardly or not, they saves life. my point is in WW2, a sniper / commando's saved life, in the long run. killing this mad man who is worst than hilter caused an additional 10,000 people and a complete town. but it still saved lives. no matter what anyone say, his kills are certified by the military, so there is no false numbers there. he saved or helped saved lives.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 03:38 PM) We wrote this up in detail in October, feel free to give it a look to get more detail. very nice and i really am impress with your possible options. i believe it might be a little of all 4 options which lead to his problems. that is why i would like ot see this spring training.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 03:35 PM) He wasn't killed by a sniper. It was a grenade. he was killed by a group of men / commando's some of which were snipers who tried for several months, to find a way to kill him. including several sniper attacks which failed.
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 04:24 PM) Michael Moore is not someone I'm listening to when the topic of courage/cowardice is being discussed. What is IB? And I don't think the 9/11 scenes were specifically propaganda (they weren't very long), as much as building a narrative and explaining where he'd be deployed. Completely agree. And I liked Gran Torino a lot. C'mon, Brian. Not really. I can hardly grasp what you're saying most of the time with the layout of your posts. oh well no one is perfect.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 03:06 AM) Mitchell over Trout...I think I just threw up again. yes Trout and how bout Giancarlo Stanton , he was a 2nd round. this goes to prove how inaccurate the scouting rpt are. there is no sure thing.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 20, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) I thought it was good and Cooper was amazing Moore doesn't know the difference between WW2 and today's wars apparently so maybe we should send him out into an urban warfare area. It's pretty clear in the movie that Kyles duty was to protect his frontline guys. Nothing cowardly about that. snipers in war serves a purpose, whether it is understood or not. like all things, it can be abuse. perfect example. the killing SS-General Reinhard Heydrich in WW 2. the results was brutal by Hilter, but it was needed. Heydrich was to be the 2 nd german dictator if hilter was killed or the army took over. heydrich was more brutal than hilter, snipers group, commando took his out.
  19. the best way to see the movie is with an open mind. this movie is a movie based on 1 person action and his somewhat mindset that made him the top sniper in america. now if the action of the use of a sniper, well that is a tragedy that made the use of them b/c the USA is using what it can to help save military life. the USA were the not the first and i am sure we will not be the last. if people want the military to stop using snipers, then find a way idiots will stop attacking the USA. Chris reason is not solely his own reasons, but other have had that patriotic reason, if that was the reason. who is to judge. as in all films there is prob embellishment and some story telling, but come on, this is a movie. look at the latest movie Exodus: Gods and Kings, they me if that is all true accounts, or ten commandments, story of christ. i think you get my point. it is a movie.

    2015 Films thread

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 03:55 PM) I liked it a lot. Loved the energy the drumming gave it. Loved Ed Norton's scenes, almost every one of them. oh man, i was pissed, the movie threater down here removed the movie after 1 weekend. but i saw it anyway. thanks to d/l programs. ok here is my take. this movie reminded me of the late 50's early 60's indie movie the C movies. great actors that wanted to make their kind of movie. i continuous shot, no stopping, a lot of improvising kind of film like Orson Welles, Burt Lancaster and John Cassavetes made. dark black and white film that was made in 10-20 days. acting it reminded me of Glengarry Glen Ross plot with the whole ensembe doing a great jjob of acting. i really hope they all do well in the critics review.
  21. QUOTE (Whitey @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) A realistic option would be Brandon Beachy. For $4-5 mil, it would guarantee that the 4-5 spots in the rotation are solid. that will be a nice option. i would like to suggest a 2 yr contract and in that way, he still can command another contract thru free agency rt. first get rid of DV and his contract.
  22. Arod >>>> no freaking way. many thanks for all the info guys.
  23. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) nothing in life is a guarantee, all is a gamble. the point is to try as hard to fix the odds in your favor. Wash for now, will not be in the mood to trade Stras or Zimm. but maybe Fister. the majors teams who are in the mood to push it for this title run are maneuvering themselves to make that push. by getting the necessary pieces now. is Arod available. i thought he was still signed by the yanks. anyway what is his salary???/
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 08:45 PM) Barring injury they will start at Charlotte. They will not come north with the club unless there are serious injury problems and they show a lot in ST. They're both going to get time at Charlotte even if they have really good camps. many thanks for your response. just as i thought, but i was happy to get it confirmed by another.
  25. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 07:59 PM) He said "World Series contenders", not favorites. Nice try. and what is the difference with what i said and meant esp when i said Wild card??? pls don't get me wrong, i am not picking an argument, i am a little confuse.
