  1. having the smoke clear from the trading tables, how would you evaluate the field. in the AL the only team that seems to have done a nice job of rebuilding, acquiring missing pieces would be the Red Sox. however i know there are some very good pitchers on the FA market that can turn the tables real quick. 1. Sox 2 Bos, 3. Det tie Yanks. national league, i am not too good here. thoughts????
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) Don't let us jerkwads scare you away. We get "passionate" about arguing ideas, but we aren't trying to be personal. Just argue "passionately" right back! and there are times at the end of the discussion, the poster actually do a congrats toward each other. always remember people will not always agree, as long as it is civil and a discussion without getting personal is great conversation. other poster will read and i will tell, they will learn. these guys who post on this site are very intelligent. i am extremely happy to be a small part of this site.
  3. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 02:17 AM) It seems like this is becoming a tradition for the Sox and Todd Severson, which is good. The best organizations in baseball stress uniformity across their farm systems. What you teach in the DSL are the same things being reinforced in the majors. Another reason went I'm glad to beat this is that this minicamp paid dividends all those who attended, especially for Courtney Hawkins. It's also cool to see Adam Eaton there, he's going to have a huge year. a very good point. the hitting philosophy needs to be constant. nice post.
  4. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:12 AM) I'm a newer member on here, but this forum is quickly becoming one of my favorites. There seems to be a ton of nice people here and they're all Sox fans. What could be better? some old style beer and home run inn pizza
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:04 AM) He is not going to be platooned. good, but wasn't there some discussion on his splits??? Adan LaRoche needs to see as many bats as he can. that line up, is crazy scary. can you imagine a pitcher have to face that lineup. yeessss
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:00 AM) I will do everything short of guaranteeing that Dayan Viciedo is in another organization to begin the year. you won't find me crying. i was never a fan of his since day 1.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 12:19 AM) Why? If he hasn't learned it by now, he isn't going to. the thing is, it is not that he knows it, or if he does know it. it is that thing between his ears..... maybe sending him back will reinforce it.
  8. just read Buddy Carlyle just sign with the mets. i was really hoping that the sox will tie him up to a minor deal or something. a really nice arm can be used sparingly. oh well.
  9. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 12:10 AM) Yep, that was really great. Cool look into a part of the minors that I definitely don't think about much. yeah we as fans really don't see this minor league stuff let alone read about it. it was due to Jason to make this sections for us die hard fans. i can't wait for the next article.
  10. QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 11:10 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_American...ie-breaker_game Everyone wears black, at the game. oh ok, nice idea.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) Adam Eaton ‏@AdamSpankyEaton 3m3 minutes ago Sorry for the late tweet on the trade. Was participating in baseball activities this morning can someone tweet him and ask what are the responses from the players on what Hahn has done.
  12. QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 11:02 PM) While at a New Years Eve party with fellow Sox fans, the idea was tossed out for doing a blackout for opening day. Thoughts? I think it would make a unity statement, for the fans and the team. can you pls explain/
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 11:35 PM) So, Let's talk about how the Bulls are already 5 games up on the Cavs... Let's also talk about how good that 24-10 record looks... and how the Bulls once finished a season 72-10. all that mean squat. it doesn't matter until they win the championship. but it is a start.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 11:09 PM) You are probably right. you know come at it from the economical reason for it and then how in the end they were where they started. in killing the noble houses. a full circle due to economics.
  15. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 11:13 PM) This is a happy thought: http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dfJaD?utm_sou...icago-white-sox Please discuss. do they realize, as of right now, according to fans, he may be platooned?? the person i see having a great batting yr will be Jose A.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 09:51 PM) Carlisle was on the gutenberg project for free, ha. It's really incredible to me how hard this is. Like, I don't even know basic chronology, but nobody has been able to point to something all encompassing. If I wanted someone to learn about the Civil War, I'd point them to McPherson and then onward and upward. I'm going to try the essays. try Wikipedia it is easier.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 09:52 PM) This sounds like when I took a Bolshevik Revolution class in college and we had to start with Peter the Great. yeah but peter the great..... ummm with ref to the FR i didn't even mention how the house of the Harsburg had to do with it, or how bout the polish, swiss and german countries took advantage of the money opportunities. the House of the the Rothchild's made millions time 10 or more \ on the FR.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 09:54 PM) Would anyone sign Lindstrom again? for me, i hate to say this, did that rt before, forget about it.
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 09:50 PM) Well, you got your wish. I'm cool with the Bonifacio signing - beats trading from someone. to answer the question, I would have waited another year to go "all in" and wouldn't have signed Cabrera or Robertson yet, nor traded from Samardizja. (would have done most of the rest, though). Would have used some Samardzija or other assets to acquire a young outfielder instead. But given the decision to beef up this year, the execution was excellent. here is another thing, maybe they know they will not get to sign Jeff S for any money except max. so lets use the pitcher he is and support the team with good to very good players and make a run for the world series.
  20. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 09:43 PM) Sounds, then, like the Sox are operating at quite a competitive disadvantage, which really shouldn't be the case for a team playing in a large market. all the side businesses that belong to the big picture, is very convoluted to the lame man. so yeah the real money is in all the other businesses. do you know what is the biggest profit marker for any owner, corporate sponsorship and then the parking revenue. if they had a deal like LA with the tv deal, what is that money, 300+ mil a yr.
  21. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) Know the thread got zero traction recently, but his name is Ichiro: "The 41-year-old batted .284/.324/.340 in 385 plate appearances for the Yankees last season. Ichiro is clearly no longer the player he once was, but both Ultimate Zone Rating and Defensive Runs Saved pegged him as an average defender in right field this season, and he’s still a skilled baserunner, as evidenced in part by his 15-for-18 mark in stolen bases." - MLBTradeRumors.com / Fangraphs i think Ichiro wants to go somewhere where he can start or platoon. he is just hanging around for his 3,000 hit, i believe he is 150 + or - from that number.
  22. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 08:22 PM) But a very good defensive shortstop at a time when that was a premium. Medically speaking he was also very important. Up until his injury with the collision with Raines, we tried to do an ACL reconstruction as soon as possible after the injury. His case was one of the first high profile ones where they waitined for the swelling to go down and regain the range first, then did the surgery. It was somewhat controversial the time. here is my opinion i have a dislike of him. but that will not stop me from recognizing that he was no hit great D that help the infield. he was valuable as a player.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) One thing we do know is the White Sox company line about every dime that comes in, goes out, is totally false, and that's fine. I think the publicity of turning profits when your team isn't making the playoffs would entice the White Sox fanbase even less than they are enticed now, and it would be Tampa sad. there are several side businesses that also deals with the sox running of the business. there is 1 for all the alcohol and soda, 1 for the staples, 1 for souvenirs, etc..... so if he is talking about the attendances and salary, he might be right.
  24. in my opinion, the sox wanted to get a really good team to contend, have some financial flexibility when these short term players are up, and hopefully the sox minor league starts to produce. i do not believe the sox will sign Jeff S. it is not thought.
  25. QUOTE (bear_brian @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) I do not post here frequently, though I am an avid lurker. In November I suggested the following acquisitions: Melky Cabrera Kendry Morales - Hahn one-upped me by sigingn LaRoche Emilio Bonifacio Zach Duke Brandon McCarthy - Hahn did even better by getting Samardzija Luke Gregorson - Again he did much better by signing Robertson There was a lot of scoffing with many saying we did not have the payroll to do those things. Reinsdorf really wants one more run at a championship, so he is taking a big payroll hit to see if he can win and get fannies back in the seats. I could not be happier as to what has been accomplished this winter. Obviously it is all on paper, but this team looks like a real contender. Can't wait to see the season start! PS One more thing to think about: If there was a way to dump both Danks and Viciedo, then either Scherzer or Shields becomes a possibility. the cost in yrs and salary would be too much.
