  1. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 04:57 AM) Thanks for the new mock LDF. I can't see the Sox taking another 2B from Georgia with the #8 pick though. Especially Picking Swanson over Cameron or Bickford? Its early and ya never know but I'm at a loss with that one. I know what you mean. this site is usually decent with their info and mock draft selections. when I was reading I started to think that this author had his head up a skunk arse. the sox picking a hs ss over 1 of the draft top college arms. well I like what this mock did, got me thinking and trying to figure out more of the players profile.
  2. here is another one. http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft
  3. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 12:52 AM) One of the better, and likely cheaper, free agent bullpen arms is Burke Badenhop. If the Sox aren't confident in Webb, I would imagine they would at least check in with his agent. yessss I totally, totally agree with this. any thoughts on Josh Johnson???
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 12:03 AM) Sanburn as green sox mention, I really think the closer may be in-house already with Sanburn and sharing with the other 2 pitchers, Petricka and PUtnam . I wouldn't be oppose for the sox to pick up a real closer to work with the 3 rp pitchers that I mentioned.
  5. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 31, 2014 -> 12:26 AM) Anderson went 2/5, 2B, K while leading off today. No other Sox players were in today's game. interesting ...... I like it.

    does anyone have any opinion on "crossing lines" ??? I just watched the first 6 esp and I think its a very good series.
  8. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 30, 2014 -> 02:47 AM) I could see him being one of the few reasons we'd stretch our payroll if Jerry is feeling nostalgic again this year. only IF Tor sweeten the deal. I am not talking about a little of salary. they, Tor really need to figure how bad do they want to get rid of his salary???
  9. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 08:16 PM) Exactly, the last thing we want to do is spend money on players that don't fit into our 3-5 year plan, or wouldn't have value in a few years and could be traded off. Spending money on players that fit what you are trying to do now and will be valuable internally/externally makes sense, giving someone a 3 year, 21 million dollar deal when you only have a need for them for 1 year doesn't make sense at this point for the Sox. Those deals are acceptable when it's the last or one of the last missing pieces on a playoff caliber team. We're not there yet. I have some heartburn on some of what you wrote. 1. 3-5 yr plan. I think if I am reading right, the sox may not get into those 5+ yrs contract unless it is for a young superstar. 2. trying to sign a player to a 1 yr contract is also is few, they the player are trying to rebuild their value and if the sox find the right player, then it would be worth it. 3. a contract more in line would be a 2-3 yr contract. let them walk or move on, the sox will be loosing their service and getting players through attrition. the sox has a farm system that if all goes well, the prospects will be coming into a scenario where they can walk in. pretty much like Anderson at SS and Alexei. 4. should the sox spend their whole allotment on 1 free agent or get 2 free agents that may be a little off the top level but would not cost as much and fill 2 holes.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) The one thing Ricky also said is that he won't "Spend money just to spend money", which if true is exactly the way he should be thinking. exactly
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 09:48 PM) Part of me is really hoping Mautella slips, like Rodon did, but even farther. Wasn't Anthony Rendon projected as a first overall pick in 2011 then fell? Yeah, I want that. picking at #8, all the main favorites will be gone. Mautella would be my #! pick overall followed closely by Rogers - ss / high school. too much of a talent to pass by. then there is a group of exciting players of all positions. the thing that I am wondering is, what unknown prospects will come out of no where to move into the top 10 ...... that is the exciting part. but crap, too bad Mautella will be gone.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 05:55 PM) I don't think he has any problem starting games, but just reading about him, he seems to be an intense guy who likes to channel his focus into a short burst, which is why you'd prefer relieving. He seems like a guy who likes to give 100% at all times, and you can't do that as a starter or you will throw out a shoulder and/or elbow plus any number of other possible injuries, which is why guys tone it back when they start. Best case scenario, we have a poor man's version of Wade Davis. That wouldn't be a bad thing. no, I agree with you, it would not be a bad thing. ref to starting games and coming out of the pen. as a player I like him and his future. I am happy for prospects when he makes it to the show. with that, when he gets more experience, he will get into that comfort level, where all pitchers need to be. if that means he will be a reliever / spot starter fine with me. I just have high hopes he will do great.
  13. I saw a reply of the salary and the old comment from Hahn saying that it est to be at 90+ mill. if I remember correctly, I think I posted a article and a link of Hahn saying or quoting that the actual number increased to something like 105+ million. something like 15 mil more than originally thought. I can't remember the reason. so in essence the sox have a little more to use and spend. either way, there are many options that is available for the sox to take advantage of.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) Yeah it's not a makeup thing. It is partially his comfort level, but also some questions about the breadth and quality of his secondary arsenal that make a relief role more likely. for me, makeup can, in this discussion or situation, mean the same thing as comfort level or mind set. however pls don't take this as a challenge b/c I am not meaning it to be. I pretty much agree with all that has been countered. either way too bad his future may not be as a starter. great K's to ER's, if he had other very dependable pitches in his arsenal, he would be a great pitcher. The Hound..... I just love the nickname.
  15. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 29, 2014 -> 06:57 AM) That dog'll hunt. with those stats and his past stats, too bad he doesn't have the make up for a starter, or does he???
  16. my analysis on this team tonite, or players or even the game will be unwarranted. there was no real item to talk about. I mean my dislike for certain players and their performance, esp on a game like tonite.
  17. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 28, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) The hound doing what the hound does...1.2 IP 2 hits 0 ER/BB 5 Ks So 13 IP 9 H 1 ER 22/3 K/BB so far in the AFL. that is a great nickname.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) jon greenberg ‏@jon_greenberg 1h1 hour ago Re-read the @sbjsbd story and missed the part where it said Cubs are selling. 20% share. Team valued at $2 billion. http://goo.gl/6mSMH4 So Cubs are trying to raise $400 million, almost half the purchase price of team. And some media wanted you to feel sorry for Ricketts. i think they got way over their head on this.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 28, 2014 -> 03:51 PM) Sharp-Richards-Versteeg I don't see this working out at all. Richards is used to 17+ mins a game, at least last yr. before then more like 19+ mins. second, I would like to see Saad plus Sharp with Richards a little more. I think Versteeg days along with Bickell day being numbered.

    QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 27, 2014 -> 11:54 PM) I have been interviewing and I can go back to the old gig if need be. I just found the situation odd because I keep to myself and don't talk to anyone. I do good work too. I never had any intention of staying on as I'm going back to school next year. I just think the guy is racist. There are no other black people who work at this company. I am not going there. at what cost is peace and happiness worth. I do not mean in $$$$

    QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 28, 2014 -> 06:03 AM) And of course now, she won't stop whining in her cage. I smelled some terrible farts, so I took her out and she pooped. As soon as we get in, she whines again, so I take her out and she pees. Now we come back in and she continues to whine, so I just moved her to the cage in the kitchen because I'm not about to listen to that all night, especially since she JUST went pee and poop. Now I know she is just wanting to play. ahhh the joy of being a dog owner. many yrs from now, you will look and and share these stories. I have been a dog owner for many yrs. these are the trying months. it all gets better.. my training ideas are all old school, so I will spare you.
