QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) Also, I decree we call them Navila to make it easier. i am game.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 11:11 PM) There is nothing that says you can not bring outside influences to your performance. If anything that means that you're going to get a multi-layered performance. Adam Driver said that he studied violent, religious extremist for his performance as Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens. Tom Hardy said the he studied terrorist for his role as Bane and brought that angle to his performance. EDIT: This does not mean that Lex in the DCEU is a screenwriter, Eisenberg is just taking inspiration from Landis's personality. i like that.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 10:18 PM) Initially I was going to say Micah/Beck but wasn't sure with both of them having injuries this past season. Oakland looks like they have an opening at 2B so I figured Johnson and a pitcher. Looks like they might have an opening in the OF too but I think it's CF so I doubt they have interest in Avi. i really think you premise is right but not the players... MJ for sure and then maybe, i would imagine a pitcher and one of J May or Engel. i made an error.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 10:15 PM) Not to push for this guy to be signed, but the Sox had an interest in Middlebrook before. Maybe Coop can fix em nah, coop is thinking of leaving baseball, he is going to DC to fix the economy,

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:46 PM) What pitchers have the Sox fixed recently or semi recently? but the idea has always been get a pitcher who can be fix, for the baseball season. so the team does not have to go and spend money or prospects to get a better pitcher. very rarely does the pitcher goes beyond 2 yrs.... some flame after 1 or 2 season, but it save resource in that yr or second yr.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:29 PM) It's Flowers and Soto. Just keep that in mind. They were fine as a tandem, but still extremely mediocre. now i have heard everything, we as fan are being trained to accept mediocrity as the normal standard. i wonder why???

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 07:55 PM) A couple of veterans who have had success and played for good teams on one year cheap contracts. Unless you have Posey or Martin or McCann or maybe Cervelli, it's a pretty good idea to maximize an industry wide weak position, and not have the money spent hurt you elsewhere. you make a good point, the baseball reasoning to pull or move players from the catching position, to utilize their offensive skill, will leave a hole somewhere. there are still some who can be good on offense and defense, but according to the advance stats, and those stats will continue to get better, it will continue to show bigger holes in anyone's game. this is the wave of the future, cheap, no hitting catchers whose defense may be questionable

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) Horrible, deplorable, s***ty and over all skid-mark tainted underwear. He's pretty bad. His dWAR last season was -2.3. See for yourself. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/alvarpe01.shtml Alvarez would have Sox fans missing Gillaspie in no time. today you are on a roll what you and others have said is true. that was the reason to move him to 1b.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 06:02 PM) A lot of people said that about the deal the Dodgers gave Greinke last time and he outperformed that massive deal, imo. Odds are more against him doing it again, given his age, but he's an elite pitcher. Personally, I take him over Lee (especially since you might be able to get him for less years). Greinke is the type of pitcher that I think holds up better as he ages than a guy like Price. I might be wrong though and unless I was a franchise with very deep pockets (i.e., LA / Boston / NY), I wouldn't even entertain any of these type of pitchers ever on the FA market. Downside is too crippling to a franchise. not only the downside, but if one is to look at it, the recovery process and if that is quasi success, the team would be laden with an unmovable contract.... Danks

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) Not interested. Old, hurt, and not that amazing to begin with. and i am not sure how long if he is able to handle cf.... but those are my thoughts.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) It's the quality of these players that I question. I really don't see how any of those players will improve upon what the Sox already have, with the exception of Alvarez over LaRoche. Look at the ages, expected salaries and numbers on those players. Not very good at all. I'd much rather see the Sox use their limited resources on better talent than picking through non-tendered garbage. As of right now, Henderson Alvarez is the only played that really interests me and I'm leery on him because he gave up more hits than IP and didn't have to face the DH pitching in the NL. Might not translate well at US Cellular. I'd still take a chance depending on his asking but I wouldn't go overboard trying to sign him either due to the Sox needing to spend their money wisely on position players. Rice as you said, limited resources, i will deal not with the financial part but the part i am getting at.. the talent side. last yr, i mention the sox going dumpster diving, b/c since the late 80's that is what they did, pickup players past their prime, past their timeline for their talent, etc.... in order to not to spend money on a viable fa. well here, they next wave of players > prospects are at least 2 yrs away. they will not spend what would be needed to fix this team, they have some dead contracts that they can move, i would prefer them not to empty the farm, so here is a chance to pick up some viable talent and on some i gave my reasons. until hahn pulls his magic from the hat, these are some nice stop gap fill ins and who knows the team may get lucky in finging 1 player who is a long term keeper. they are all young, so they are not the old timers that the sox will be getting. it is just an idea

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) In short, most of these guys were non-tendered because they are just bad, injured or too expensive for their production. As for Holland, he won't pitch in '16 due to TJ surgery. The only played your list that could be of interest is Alvarez but there's no room for him on the Sox roster as long as LaRoche is the DH. as for holland, i can see where i made the mistake on that one. but the others as you mention, were not worth their arb yr ... meaning money, but with what the sox have now, some can be an improvement even if it is for one or two yrs. the cupboard is bare....

Hahn says another catcher is ready to be added.
LDF replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 01:34 PM) I'm starting to think they are going trade route for the new catcher. If it was signing of navarro then they probably would have done that already since he's a free agent and been out there for a month. Since the catching position has been a hole since AJ left I'm guessing they are trying to get controlled catcher. Hahn has said he'd like to get younger and controlled players. Maybe that's why Avila was brought in for veteran presence and good club house leader for the new catcher. a very good well thought out counter. i had to look up something but you are right, they the sox have nothing in the pipeline for yrs... with regards to catching. the only one is Jhoandro Alfaro - c and he is 18 yrs old. so yeah, are they, the sox going to keep playing musical chairs at catcher and waiver until Alfaro is ready. btw. thanks KW for the state of the system. -
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) Let's pretend the Navarro rumors are true and he goes in to a platoon with Avila. Navarro owns a career 110 wRC+ versus lefties, while Avila has a 116 wRC+ versus righties. Last year Navarro had batting .278 with a 145 wRC+ versus lefties and actually walked 5% more than he struck out. And for his career versus lefties, he has walked 8.5% of the time and only struck out 10.2%. I get that Navarro is a switch hitter, but he appears much better against lefties, and with Avila doing much better against righties, maybe start them according to L/R match-ups. This could lead to a solid split platoon if that is indeed the plan. great way of thinking out side the box so to speak

White Sox decline to tender Tyler Flowers and Jacob Turner
LDF replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 12:16 PM) Sure. Didn't you know catchers like that are a dime a dozen and almost every team has one? It's just that the White Sox purposely abstain from those types because they enjoy a good challenge and prefer defensive pitch framers. a classic snark , greatness at its best. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 06:08 AM) I would take him over LaRoche all day he is another lh hitter.... 27 hrs.... for only a fraction of what he will be worth, maybe.

Hahn says another catcher is ready to be added.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 02:05 AM) Levine Twitter "White Sox GM Rick Hahn said he has another catcher ready to be added after non tendering Tyler Flowers ." dang.... i wonder who it is. i don't think it would be a non-tendered player. maybe a trade??? where is bucket and lord something i think chaos or something like that. we need some up dates. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) No thanks on Middlebrooks. I would hope the Sox have their 3B sights set just a bit higher than that. yeah i agree, but as i said last nite, i really am starting to get a little excited on the many possibilities of getting better in the middle portion of the over starting team and of course now it will all depends on the the green lite and the salary.

after reading some updates and rumors and teams concerns the is growing. this would be a perfect time for SB to step up and do his thing. i think other teams not wanting to help the hawks without an over payment from the hawks, still might be in effect, but.... but if they can help the hawks in several ways, i say sure. i am looking at how SB made a key trade last yr to bring in a player who help in the SC last yr, this can be some what like the same. the hawks can go and make 4 players movement on the big club now, add in next yr 1,2 and 3 round picks to the pkg and 1.5 mil to ease the salary. in rtn, the hawks will get 1 dman, 2 forwards one of which is a power forward who can score, a elite young goalie, and cap room. some hard decision making will be needed, not being touch is 2/3 of the first line, the 2 line, the crawford and the top 3 dman of the hawks. now understand this, the hawks will have to over pay, but if SB understands this, and use his skills and luck, just maybe the hawks will skate to a 4 and maybe 5 SC with the players he can get. Scotty time to do your magic.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 03:17 AM) P Henderson Alvarez was non-tendered. Supposed to miss the first month or two of the season. Is he worth a look? there are many non-tendered that i would love to have a look-see Aaron Crow - rh-sp is still recovering from an injury Yohan Flande lh-sp he is intriguing to me, the factor i keep looking at is he pitched for a sub-par team Rosell Herrera - 23 yrs old, ss/2b/3b he is still in the minors and well how many ss/3b prospect does the team have. doesn't hurt for more Juan Nicasio - sp and again another Col factor Craig Stammen rh-sp, still recovering from a fore arm surgery. still on he really had some mild success in Wash, i think a look-see . Yusmeiro Petit rh-sp, his stats are really not that bad compared to others on this list. this is a definite for me. César Ramos lh pretty much as Petit and his success has been with the Angels. Pedro Alvarez lh- 1b/dh POWER hitting player, 27 hrs and is in his arb yr. well the asking price is what will be me now. but a person to look-see Greg Holland rh-closer..... this one is puzzling his success --- 47,46, and 32 saves in the bigs for KC and was in his last yr of arb??? well these are all worth a look see but that doesn't mean they will all get sign. but it does make an interesting list of players.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:07 AM) I really liked the first minute of the trailer and suddenly found myself getting excited for the movie. Then Lex came in and killed it. Dear god does he look terrible. well i will say one thing, it does look interesting, even so much as i would say, i change my mind about going to see it. the jury is still out for me on this.

QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 06:32 AM) I think Hahn is a smart guy but I'm at the point where I really don't know what the plan is for the Sox right now. I can't tell if they truly want to add pieces to try and contend this year or if they're quietly going to rebuild without really saying they're rebuilding. Right now this team is in Baseball hell. Not good enough to contend but not really trying to rebuild either. It's frustrating. excellent and that is how i feel.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 07:50 AM) I think it was a mistake. It will surely go bad by year 3. I'd never sign a pitcher over 27 to a deal more than 4 years. The Greinke deal will be even worse, but LA radio for the most part is like "We have to sign the guy. We can't let the Giants get him." I think it's the exact opposite. Every big deal the Giants give a pitcher turns to s***. i really understand your point and for the most part, i am at an impasse with the signing. price and his success is there. no doubt about it. with ref to the money, that is the problem for me. i hate to say the caned opinion of "well that is the market" but the yrs is the killer for me. 4 yrs max on any deal or till age 34.

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 10:58 PM) That sucked. Every game matters in the strongest division in hockey. look at it this way, the playoff are 16 teams. the team are trying to gel and this games are primers for the playoff.
