Interesting moves for the Dodgers this offseason. Allthough in that division it likely won't take a ton to be competitive. Another sidenote is this could take away another barganing leverage from Boras and Damon, they were visiting the Dodgers and floating their name, I guess Lofton could play another OF position, but who knows.

Reported on ESPN Radio that Willie and Timo won't be tendered contracts by tonights deadline..... now, I'm not 100% sure what that means? Can anyone help clear this up a little? I know there was talk that Borchard would be given a chance to take the Timo roll from last year, does this help solidify this? Also, I posted this in the A.J. contract thread, but just repeating here. A.J. was on ESPN 1000 locally and he said he thought that J.G. or Jose had to be traded and doesn't see the Sox coming north with 6 starters. Just interesting to hear a players point of view on the situation. Sorry mods, didn't see the Willie and Timo = gone thread, please merge/remove if need be.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) Honestly, if they could just get Count and/or Jon to sign an extension, the off-season is perfect! A.J. was just on ESPN 1000 with Silvy and Carm, and I thought it was odd that he basically said there's no way the team can come north with 6 starting pitchers, and said Jose or JG have to go and he would hate to be Coop or KW to make that decision. He basically said he doesn't see how B-Mac can start the year at AAA and risk ruininghis confidence.

Great to hear. Good offensive catcher and a great game caller.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) Some of those trades on there are just laughable at best. (ex. the yankee-cardinal swap) i know, it seems like his introduction to the Cubs section that they got some good ones that Cubs fans are famous for, too bad none of those were printed

QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) KTRS is the new station. They bought the rights after the Cardinals were on KMOX for 50 plus years. ah, thanks, OK then, I have no idea if that pumps all the way to Chicago on certain nights then.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew if a station that is recievable in the Chicagoland area caries Cardinals games. It would be a real treat to listen to Rooney call the games against the White Sox on June 20 - June 22... I'm sure that will be an emotional series for him. I know the Cardinals flagship (KMOX?) is 50,000 watts and can blare pretty far sometimes and have gotten it in the western suburbs.

it was a good listen as a long time Stern fan. Howard lost it a little for me (trust me, I still like him and while I don't have Sirius right now I know I will get it eventually) when there were too many "yes" men around him The thing I remember most is about 1-2 years ago Howard kept saying how much he liked this "new" Adam Sandler CD and some bits on it. When he finally played it he played "Tollboth Willie" which was about 10 years old at the time, and all his staff, KC, Fred, Benjy, Babba Booey, were all saying how funny it was. Know come on, one of those people had to know, or at least got a phone call, to say how old that was. Also, Benjy Bronk (sp?) is horrible. He's not funny at all. He does the "over-the-top" act which isn't funny, only uncomfortable to watch. When they had the staff dress in drag for a beauty contest he did some ridiculous character that ruined the bit when he was on.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) Because this is how the Royals have operated for years. They continue to sign washed-up veterans to start for them instead of just playing prospects at every position. It really makes no sense either. They are going to lose anyways. Why not see what your prospects can do? yeah, it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Look at how the Brewers did it, they sucked for awhile, was willing to go with young players and last year they had their first .500 season in awhile. While they don't pass out awards for that I really think they're building something up there. They're a team who doesn't have to do anything in the offseason and they automatically get better with the players having experience and possibly Sheets healthy for a whole season. Out of all the teams it bothers me a lot to see how much Pittsburgh and KC just have zero chance every year. Those use to be good baseball towns and now they're just an after thought.

QUOTE(S720 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 01:48 PM) Not sure of its authenticity, but I got this from an Angels message board. And if this is true, pour the potential Tejada-for-Garland-and-Uribe trade down the drain. No way I will do the trade if indeed the Orioles want both of our arms and legs for Tejada. yeah, this seems legit, it has been what a lot of the scuttle has been in this situation. The O's don't want to trade him and are only going to do it if they are overwhelmed, ie the Cubs would have to give up Prior or Zambrano, so IMO if this happens with the Sox it's going to be more than Garland and Uribe.
-
If KW moves Garland I want him to get a ML player, I wouldn't like a trade for only prospects.
-
I wouldn't be suprised if he writes an article next week bashing KW and the Sox

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) Howard Stern is very much an innovator in radio. But I think his time has passed him by. As far as I'm concerned, his show has been stale for five years to be honest and although I think that a couple million people will follow him to Sirius, most won't. Howard's still funny, but I tend to agree with you. When he had that TV show that originated from the NY channel (the one that use to be syndicated and showed Mets games every now and then) he was funny as hell. I still listen regularly, but haven't rushed out to get Sirius.

Cubs will offer Korey Patterson arbitration
SoxFan562004 replied to SSH2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
what? my brain can't even compute the possibility of this move. So your outfield would be Murton/Pierre/Patterson, then start Walker and Cedeno at SS and 2b? No way, I love to laugh at Cubs fans and I think Hendry is WAY overrated, but there's not a chance in hell he walks out with that to start 06. -
I think he goes to the Yankees. Nomar is not stupid, he probably realizes that with all the injuries his best days are behind him, but the opportunity for all the endorsments and publicity with being on the same team as A-Rod and Jeter will be too much to pass up.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) Ralph Malph has a great source. Potsie Weber knows the Rangers inside and out. well the Fonz says "HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY" Anyone know what Ralph Malph's fathers name was on Happy Days? It was Mickey Malph, then Growing Pains continued the wacky sidekicks dad name tradition when they revealed that Boner Stabone's dad's name was Sylvester Stabone. god damn, that was a funny post, i laughed out loud when I saw "Ralph Malph" as the name.

I understand when favorites leave, it sucks, but I did not want KW to stand pat and bring back the same team. I don't think there is anyway to guarantee that the chemistry would be the same. What A-Row, Crede and A.J. were going to sing "Don't Stop Beliving" before every game? The championship dynamic changes everything. KW has given the Sox six ML quality starters, most teams, barely have 4. That is incredible in my book. The Cubs brought Gary Gaeiti (sp?) back after they won the division or a wild card (can't remember off the top of my head). It was obvious to everyone he was done and the Cubs caught lightning in a bottle for the last part of the season. But there he was, opening day, and all the Cubbie fans were happy, and he sucked. Crazy Carl was a professional hitter and did a lot to help the Sox in '05, but he was struggling at the end of the year, and Thome is an upgrade IMO. If the Sox win the Series 50 more times in my lifetime it will never compare to how awesome '05 was because it was the first one, but that doesn't mean I don't trust KW to make the moves to keep the good times rolling

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) I saw a theme going, and I went with it. My apologies. By the way, Buster Olney likes the trade. He thinks Vazquez is a good ball taker, whatever the hell that means. i think he means he will pitch 200+ innings, which is what the Sox love
-
QUOTE(rcpweiner @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) Are there any other reports on this possible deal besides a small blurb from Bruce? I've just heard the Levine report, in fact FWIW, Buster Olney was on Dan Patrick and when asked if Tejada would be trade, he said there's only a 1% chance, basically the O's do not want to trade him and all, and he thinks he would have to pull a T.O. to get traded
-
Well, if the Sox get Tejada I will lay off Levine for awhile, because he's the only one saying that the Sox are actually "preparing" an offer, so he's going past speculation...

If we're going on the "way out there" limb, let's say Seattle backed off their not trading Ichiro policy!!

Boers and Bernstein Quote of the Year Show
SoxFan562004 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Chris Rongy one about the Steelers is hysterical, but you have to hear it. The joke is not the steel/iron curtain snafu, it really is the "Finally." The way he says is it like he's been waiting for that guy to die and he "finally" did. It's really funny.
