  1. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) Furcal+Wrigleyville+lots of day games =disaster.....so I hope they get him. lol, no doubt. I also think they'll sign him because he's a "name" and it will make Cubs fans happy. Even though they'll still need basically a whole new outfield, they likely would have a rookie at 2b maybe 2 rookies if they start Murton, at least 2 bullpen arms and about 3/5 of a rotation (I don't count Wood as anyone you can remotely count on at this point)
  2. I feel Furcal is going to sign with the Cubs, I just think that with the Sox winning the Series and the Cubs going from 1st, to 3rd to 4th in the last three years and having 30m under the cap, Hendry knows he needs to sign a legitimate leadoff hitter to give his team any sort of chance to win, considering Milwaukee is likely going to get better, St. Louis is still good and may get better with adding Giles and Houston should be solid again. The last two years the Cubs couldn't manufacture a run to save their life, they are a perfect example of a lineup that might be quality for fantasy stats, but absolutely sucked when it came to winning ballgames, if I'm Florida and the Mets go crazy and out bid the Cubs for Furcal I would hold them hostage for Pierre
  3. QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) giant contract, but they could get him cheap in terms of prospects. plus colorado im sure would eat some of it. id do it in a heart beat if the sox can get col to pay a hefty chunk. The guys a flat obp machine. had a dip in power last year, but his doubles were still high, so much of it can return. ive never seen a guy rake as much as he does and get talked about so little. granted coors has alot to do with it prolly, his numbers in this decade are pujols like huge contract, i imagine for it to make sense the Rockies would have to take more than what PK ends up signing for. If it works out financially and PK walks, I'm OK with Helton. Delgado or Helton would be really interesting for me (even Matsui?) because the ball jumps out of the Cell, and it seems to jump out the most to right center, so a power hitting lefty hitting 3rd or 4th was always intriguing to me. lol, on a side note, it seems that Mike Murphy (huge Cubs fan and original bleacher bum) is obsessed with the Sox this offseason. I tune into his show once in awhile and he always talks about PK and what the Sox will or won't do. Between this and some of my friends, the true Cubs fans are taking the Sox championship pretty hard. poor them... a lot of them like to think, hope, that the Sox will let PK walk, let Gload play 1st and then trade Contreras or B-Mac for a bag of balls... Personally I feel the Sox will end up around 90m in payroll, just have no clue on how that's going to shake out though
  4. FWIW, ESPN 1000 is saying via Levine that the Sox may be interested in Helton from the Rockies... anyone know hiw contract status?
  5. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 07:56 AM) Quick questin: When was the last time a high profiled player took less money to stay w/ his previous team? I know it doesn't happen often, but Pauly seems like the kind of guy to take less money to stay w/ us. Just a hunch. I know money talks unfortanately, but being a defending champion talks much louder IMO. And if Pauly walks and heads to a new team- he can't be considered a 'defending champion'. I guess Jermaine Dye wasn't the highest of high profile players, but there were a few teams after him and he took less to sign with the Sox because he liked the make-up of the team. Also Freddy probably took less than his market value to stay with the Sox, i know the Ozzie factor is the reason for that, but he seems to fit.
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 11:49 PM) I'm sure this was posted somewhere, but it warrants discussion... http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...tesox-headlines (Thanks Cheat) This sounds great to me, I hope there's some Sox interest in him. I've posted a few times earlier around the board that if PK doesn't resign and they can snag Matsui it would help. I would like to see the Sox see if the Brewers are going with Fielder next year and trading Overbay
  7. At first I was all gung ho to buy a Sirus radio for Stern, but now with Brandmeir back and Mike and Mike in the morning i'm not sure I want to spend money for radio. If Adam Carolla's morning show was going to be in Chicago there is no way I would buy Sirus just for Stern... but we get Rover, not Carolla
  8. Yeah, i thought they would go 5, but I agree, if the Manny Ramirez deal doesn't go down Red Sox and Angels both give him 5 years at least.
  9. if PK walks I see KW doing something with the money they had into him and they put in an offer to him. I know 3-4 guys are due raises, but I still expect, even if PK isn't here, the Sox to increase their payroll
  10. FWIW, Levine was just on ESPN Radio from the GM meetings and said that the Sox will offer PK a 4 year deal between 50 and 52 and said they absolutely won't go 5 years. Which leads me to believe PK will be a Red Sox or an Angel next year. Also said KW will look at the Garland and Garcia situations, basically saying KW doesn't want to go into next year with Garland on a one year deal and then lose him to free agency.
  11. Boers and Bernstein talked about this subject for a little today, and they made some points I agree with. Basically they said that teams that have won for awhile have been fluid. It would suck to see PK go, he has been great for this team, but I will trust KW, I think he's earned that from me. If they lose PK and he can bring in an Overbay and Matsui, I think that goes aways to make up for the loss. Also, over the past few days Boers has been saying if the Sox trade someone from their staff it would be Garcia. Haven't heard this elsewhere, but I imagine he would be worth something pretty good. They mentioned Blaylock from Texas
  12. QUOTE(Z38 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) For the most part you're right but there are a couple of us that know how trades work (but hendry has pulled off a couple of nice trades like that.... 3 prospects got Nomar and a prospect) Nomar was washed up when he came here, IMO. Epstein knew it, that's why he couldn't/didn't get more, he wanted to move Cabrera in for SS. I think at this point Hendry is overrated, his move that he lives on is the Pittsburgh deal in '03 getting Lofton and A-Ram... while that was a solid move, it was a firesale by the Pirates. Did he give up Dontrelle or did the previous GM? Maddux contract is also backloaded for this year, so why they drop some payroll in Sosa's contract, they pick up some on Maddux...
  13. For most sports a ton of people get them, i think baseball is the most generous... but i think, not 100% sure, that there's two types often. One is for players and main on field personel that is fully blinged out, then the second is still nice and expensive, just not as lavish, and that's for a lot of the other staff
  14. FWIW, ESPN Radio 1000 is starting the "Cubs Are Players in Everybody" storyline for the offseason... they said they're after Furcal, Burnett, and Juan Pierre in a trade with Florida
  15. FWIW, ESPN Radio 1000 is saying Sox initial offer to PK is going to be 4/50 If Anaheim can get Manny that may be enough, it not, I imagine at least a 5th year is going to have to be added
  16. I think Ozzie is just giving his opinion, one of which a lot of people would agree with.
  17. It is so great when I slip on some Sox World Series gear. I look at it and it just makes me smile.
  18. I would be suprised if PK got this deal from anyone, and if he does, as much as it pains me, I don't want the White Sox to match it. He's what 29? The end of that contract could hurt a lot. I don't blame his agent lobbying for this deal, it's his job, he could be using this tactic to guarantee a 5th year from a team. I've said it before, if they can't resign PK I would want KW to try and get Overbay from Milwaukee (likely available due to Prince Fielder) and then try to sign Hideki Matsui and use him like Carl last year, except more OF play. I know the Cubs are likely watching the PK scenario closely, I just heard they want to sign Lee to an extension (I think next year may be his last) and if he has a solid year next year, he would be due a huge PK level contract.
  19. Over the last 3 years the Cubs have gone from 1st in their division, to 3rd (including letting the Wild Card slip away while playing teams under .500), and finally 4th this year. It's not only what the Cubs have to do; -upgrade their entire outfield -find an everyday SS -get a deeper starting staff, which includes counting on Prior and Wood who have missed times due to injuries -better middle relief but what other teams in the division are going to do or have already done; -Milwaukee finished better than the Cubs, and their younger players got some experience and new ownership is expected to add payroll and Sheets could possibly be healthy the whole year. -Pittsburgh has young players that could be better -Cin, well I think that still is going to be a suck-fest next year, their starting pitching is an absolute joke -Astros, Clemens is a key, if he comes back, and healthy, they'll be tough again, especially if they add only a slightly above average bat to the middle of that line-up -Cardinals, they get Rolen back healthy, but still need another OF. Could also be effected by move to new ballpark. But I agree with the other posts here that say you never know... if Prior and Zambrano can stay healthy (Not worried about Z, he seems to be one of those pitchers who are just machines) and they get a suprise contribution from a young pitcher or two, they have a very good rotation. However, I really like what Milwaukee is doing, they need some SP help, but if they can get some servicable arms they can be a real sleeper team next year... I think a crucial move for them will be what they do with Overbay and Fielder, If their GM can spin Overbay into a quality player to fill a need it would be a huge help.
  20. MLB and the players union should be sitting down right now and not leaving until they have an acceptable plan in place. This is their absolute worst nightmare, and the Senators are not bluffing, they will get this through and make it law. This would be an out and out fiasco for MLB. There are way too many players who offseason in foreign countries and have no idea what they're taking. Imagine if one of the big marquee players accidentaly take something that sets off a false positive or they're slipped something on accident... then baseball has to fight a 2 year suspension mandated by federal law? That's going to be a nightmare for PR whether it was a legitimate failure or not. I wouldn't be suprised to see MLB and the union agree on something soon...
  21. If Rooney has to go I wouldn't mind Lyons coming in... I know he seems a little cheesy on the national broadcasts, but I think he could do a good job with a local team
  22. The one addition I would love to see is Matsui from the NYY. If PK leaves, I would want to see Overbay come over in a trade and have Matsui fill the Everett role, but play a little more OF than Carl did. Even if PK stays, Matsui could fill the DH/OF role incredibly well for the Sox
  23. i 100% agree, I'm loving all of this, but it still hits me in waves and gives me chills when I realize the WHITE SOX WON THE WORLD SERIES!!! Hahahaha, it is so awesome. I thanked my father for making me a white sox fan, this night was worth all of it!
  24. lol, i just grabbed my friend, hugged him, hugged two strangers in the booth next to me and then stood their stunned for like 2 minutes... the best was coming home and hugging my father, it was AWESOME.... this was such a wonderful night that I'll never forget
  25. Yeah, I wouldn't be suprised to see Buzz wind up with him eventually. Dahl doesn't keep his news people forever, like Laura Wittack (sp?) or Dave McBride. Dahl could have been greasing the skids for Buzz's depature when he was complaining Buzz went to Europe for a week after Dahl cancelled his trip so he can be in town during the Sox run. Now if Buzz leaves Dahl can point to that and say it was his choice to ditch Buzz.
