  1. I thought the last few years they usually report who cleared waivers, usually some players suprise everyone ( I think most teams basically put everyone on to see who they can get through). Is that during the offseason only, or do they report it during the season?
  2. Just wondering if anyone else is going to watch the UFC on Spike TV tomorrow. It's the first time they are doing an entire card not on PPV. Should be interesting, a little sloppier than the PPV bouts since a lot of the fighters are from the Ultimate Fighter show and not quite top notch, but nonethless solid fighters. I am dissapointed since one of the guys I train with is fighting tomorrow, but just saw on the website he's fighting in a preliminary fight, so will only be on TV if the other bouts are quick. I will be TiVo'ing it since I have a bachelor party to attend tomorrow, but looking forward to seeing it.
  3. Really sad story. I don't mean to be insensative here, but it seems like a lot of the 80 and 90's QB's have children with severe medical problems. I think Marino and Flutie are at least two others, Boomer Esiason (sp?) as well. I've always wondered if there's more to this... but with that said, it doesn't matter why it happenned now, it's really sad to see such a young child pass away.
  4. wow, that was a hard game to watch. As much as a week or two would suck without him, the Sox better be 100% sure Crazy is ready to come back, if that means DL, then he should be on it. Sox need to use the 14 game lead in this case. That offensive display tonight was sad. Not even Hawk and DJ were giving the old "He pitched a good game against us" excuse tonight.
  5. Olney was just on ESPN Radio 1000, when asked about the White Sox, he said they were talking to Tampa about Huff and Baez still and saying KW will trade McCarthy. This was about 7:30. I know nothing earthshaking, but it's fresh
  6. If the Sox get Blum his nickname should be "the heating-pad" because I think the reason KW would get him is so Crede can rest his back more often and not have Ozuna attempt to play 3b
  7. QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 07:45 AM) I'm starting to think this trade season might turn into the White Sox always being the bridesmaid but never the bride.... You know, close to pulling off a lot of different deals and ending up with none. I have the feeling there won't be any real major deals. I think the manny thing got started too late and it's too complicated. I think the most major deal would be Soriano to the Cubs or the Mets
  8. QUOTE(Adam G @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:34 AM) A proposed three-team deal involving the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Tampa Bay Devil Rays "hit a roadblock" Friday night, according to a baseball official familiar with the discussions, and now appears unlikely to happen at all. The deal proposed would have sent unhappy Boston slugger Manny Ramirez and Tampa Bay closer Danys Baez to the Mets, with the Red Sox acquiring outfielder/designated hitter Aubrey Huff and outfielder Mike Cameron, and the Devil Rays getting two prospects apiece from the Mets and Red Sox. If this is true and ultimately ends up happening, the Mets would be getting Manny Ramirez and Danys Baez for Mike Cameron and two prospects. That's a suprisingly low price, considering some of us on here have been saying it would take a couple current starters and a couple high level prospects to get him. If you take Tampa and Baez out of the equation, it seems as if we could get Manny for a starter (Rowand?) and a midlevel prospect because of his ginormous contract. Discuss. The problem is this deal won't happen with the Mets just giving up that little. The road block is supposedly that the Red Sox won't do it with Looper being included. So basically for Manny and two prospects the Red Sox want Huff, Cameron and Looper. That's three above average major league players. That is a lot, and I don't blame them. This is probably why it has to be a three team deal, because any team wanting Manny would be a competitior, and would have to give up too much to remain competative. Ie, the Cubs would have to give up roughly Burnitz, Walker, and Dempster to get Manny, and eat his whole contract.
  9. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) The score is 7-2. Why the hell do you bring Vizcaino in to face one batter with two outs in the 9th. The only thing I can think of is they were trying to showcase him for a trade. I figured it was because they're showcasing Marte and he got the lefty out, so they pulled him to protect him
  10. s***, I freaked out for a second with sight going down, I thought something major happenned!!
  11. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) There goes THAT theory. LOL, yup, just trying to throw against the wall and see what sticks!!
  12. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) There just trying to get more, the Mets said no. It was almost a done deal, but Boston trying to get more.. they wont. Mets, Red Sox and Tampa 3 way deal. Yeah, but they'll probably call Cubs and Dodgers to see if they can get what they want... but you're right, I wouldn't be shocked if this deal gets done.
  13. OK, just to add more ridiculous fuel to the fire with no facts to support it at all, if Marte does not pitch in this game, they're purposely holding him out. Doesn't mean anything is done, but close to it...
  14. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) We have no f***ing chance of stopping Tejada. He's the new Mike Sweeney. Just walk him every time. For my money Tejada is the best player in baseball, well him or A-Rod... I'm sure this was posted earlier, but Goddamn, Sosa is so f'n small now!! I guess he ran out of Flinstone vitamins
  15. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) All they seem to be offered is Cameron and Huff. Send Rowand and someone else and get this guy here. ESPN is now reporting that this deal is basically dead because Red Sox want more than Cameron and Huff... they want Looper too... Red Sox are going to ask for the moon for Manny, and they should.
  16. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:32 PM) The three-team deal between the Red Sox, Mets and Devil Rays is currently on life support, a source told ESPN.com. ''I don't know if it's completely dead,'' said an official of one of the three teams. ''But it's hit a roadblock … unless someone has some other thoughts.'' According to the official, the Red Sox asked for more from the Mets to complete the deal, which would have sent Manny Ramirez and Danys Baez to New York, Aubrey Huff and Mike Cameron to Boston and Lastings Milledge, Yusmeiro Petit, Anibal Sanchez and Kelly Shoppach to the Rays. It might have been that they wanted Braden Looper. However, the Mets would want to keep him and use him to close and Baez in a setup role initially. Jul. 29 - 10:17 pm et Source: ESPN.com Yeah, that makes some sense... the Red Sox are asking for A LOT!! and I don't blame them. So basically they want Huff/Cameron/Looper. That's a huge ML package, I think any contender who Manny could help this year would have a hard time giving that up. IE Cubs would be Burnitz/another ML/Dempster (I know Cubs aren't looking to move Dempster, but if Red Sox want a relief pitcher, he's the only one Cubs would have. Dodgers would be like Bradley/Brazoban/Werth (probably a better player than Werth though) for either team that's a lot to give up if you're pushing for a playoff spot
  17. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Thanks for verifying! I had a glass of wine and my attention and hear all of a sudden suck because I swear Hawk said something about El Duke getting traded lol. Sure you had just one glass??
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) You're nuts. It would take an absolute dismanteling(sp?) of this team to land Manny, the Bosox aren't going to trade one of the best hitters in baseball to a playoff contender to rid themselves of his contract. NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN. Yeah, I agree, no way to the AL, but with that said if he does get moved, I wouldn't be suprised if the Cubs/Dodgers/Mets get him for a little less than I would think. With that said it will be two major league above average players
  19. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) What trade was Hawk talking about? if was in regards to the O's, Bigbie for Byrnes
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) Never heard of him complaining about being put in the DH spot. Also, you guys act like he's a cancer. Can any of you name anyone on the Red Sox who hates him or even dislikes him player wise? He seems he would fit in with Ozzie. Not trying to be a dick here, I don't have any links, but I know Manny hates playing DH, he has b****ed about it many times. That's the only reason Red Sox play him out there is he creates a huge fuss if he DHs
  21. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) Did Julio just get pulled from the game? Think he was dealt? Good point, Marlins might have wanted Byrnes, not Bigbie, maybe the Burnett deal was rekindled
  22. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) First off, it wouldn't cost as much as you guys think considering we'd be taking on his contract. I don't know why people don't grasp that concept. Secondly, I didn't know it was a rule that Manny would have to play OF when there is a DH spot available. At last, Kenny wouldn't inquire if it wasn't possible. It's too close to the deadline to inquire about things that are very close to impossible. I think Manny will only play in the OF, he hates the DH spot. That's the problem with Manny, he's a head case. If he's forced to DH he sulks and is horrible in the lockerroom, something KW won't let happen
  23. QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) I just can't imagine it being worth what we would have to give up. Isn't this exactly why we gave up Lee? It was to be able to buy more players for the money. And now we are going to have to go out and do the opposite? It would take at least 3 guys and disrupt the chemistry as well. What motivation does Manny have? He has a ring. All we need is for him to sulk in September and be a distraction down the run. No thanks. I don't think Manny is going to the AL... I would handicap it as 50% staying with Red Sox, then Cubs/Mets/Dodgers have equal shots for other 50%. But Manny is one of the greatest RBI machines in the last 20 years, as much as I liked Carlos, Manny is on a different level. I think Epstein and Francona are going to, or are doing it right now, sitting down with Manny and straightening this thing out. By Sunday you'll see the Red Sox hugging in the dugout, I don't think they can realistically get value for him right now.
  24. Come on Cliff, good start, let's mow them down here. man... just thinking about Cliff 7th, Dustin 8th, Wagner 9th
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:10 PM) I know I'm as guilty of this as anyone, but I don't feel like wasting more of my precious few brain cells discussing possible Cubs trades. If I wanted to hear talk about that, I'd put on the dumbest Cubs fan alive (Mike Murphy). BTW, what's Ron Santo's favorite restaurant........IHOP! LOL, I agree, but I'm looking at it from the Red Sox angle, Manny off that team is a major move for the AL, I think if they don't get value (I don't know if that exists for Manny though), they take a serious step back.
