  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) There are too many people at the game. We don't play well in front of a big crowd :rolly too bad you can't honestly put that in green
  2. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) Here's how I read that: Bmac would be expendable because the sox would try to sign AJ to a long term deal. If the sox got Schmidt, then it might only be for the next few months, maybe 1 yr. Then Bmac would be ready If they trade for AJ, I want a window to resign him or no deal, I don't want him coming here with no longterm deal. We had the Ozzie factor for FG, for AJ it's going to be 4 at 40
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) Are they bringing in the dope that got clobbered Monday night? Spurling is a good pitcher, just had a real bad night, but it's Craig Dingman?
  4. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 04:09 PM) I blame Cotts, the guy who didn't get the job done. FG shouldn't have started the 9th
  5. This will be 5 losses out of the last 6 games at home, and I think all have been 30k+ attendance. The at bats yesterday and today looked bad, and I can't accept the "good pitching effort" argument because what the hell are we going to face in the playoffs? If Robertson/German/Farnsworth shut us down what would Colon/K-Rod do? I think KW needs to get another bat soon
  6. White Sox can probably put up a similar deal to Boston if it's Wagner straight up, if Boston is willing to take Thome and his insane contract that's left they'll have the edge. I want to see Ozzie pitch Viz more often. I agree with Hawk and DJ that Viz might be better if he works more since when he has too much strength he doesn't sink the ball, and it stays up. The Sox have a 13 game lead, I think Ozzie should use that to see if working him more can straighten him out.
  7. Boy, Burnett's start is going to set off a cluster f no matter how he does. If he comes out and blows everyone away with a dominant start Marlins brass is going to be dancing on South Beach tonight because they will be able to dump Mike Lowell in the deal. If he comes out and has anything ranging from a regular to poor start they may hold on to him for another start or two. It seems they want to dump Lowell, and if he doesn't pitch well, the less attractive taking Lowell on becomes.
  8. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:47 PM) Really good trade for Florida. They get part of Lowell's contract off their hands and can move Cabrera back to his natural position. Also, they get some young arms along with a veteran arm to replace Burnett who was gone at the end of the year anyways. Sucks to lose Eric Reed though. He's gonna be a good leadoff guy. The O's get another pitcher who i think will do well. But they are paying a high price, probably too much IMO Yeah, Gammons made a good point that Marlins GM is creative and he'll do things with this money in other trades Although he said if it isn't finalized by noon today it won't go down, so probably expect to hear something either way on this soon
  9. This is a solid move by the Cubs, but I figure they'll have to do more. They've won 7 of their last 8 and are still like 5 games out of the wildcard. They're not going to play Pitt and Cin the rest of the year, they still have a lot of games vs. Cards and Houston, and this lineup can still be shutdown against good pitching
  10. QUOTE(palesox38 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) Peter Gammons said that if the trade doesn't happen by noon teusday, he doesn't think it will happen at all. Adding the bucs to this trade sounds like the o's are having a tough time getting it done, or maybe they are more reluctant than once thought. It sounds like Lowell is screwing everything up, it seems that's why KW pulled out of it, and the O's seemed to have second thoughts about taking that contract
  11. QUOTE(bulokis @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Good move by the Cubs. Gerut doesnt have a place with the indians with Grady S emergence. Was Gerut a sox fan or his dad was? He is two years older than me in high school, he was a Sox fan
  12. What would be interesting to see if this trade goes down is the Boston and Yankee reaction. The national media talks so much about NY and Bos that when I looked at the standings last night I forgot how Orioles are still right there. NY and Bos would have to make a reaction move to this, but it would be hard too because there isn't much out there, I guess Boston would have to push hard for Wagner or Gudardo (sp?)
  13. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Although it would be funny if Hawkins came back to Chicago and performed well. Cubs fans would be PISSED. if they're worried about chemistry this would be an odd move, LaTroy is a bit prickly, but that may be just towards the media, and he might be good in the clubhouse
  14. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) Marlins = suckers if that trade goes down. That means the Marlins aren't waiving the white flag for this season. They wanted a pitcher who can pitch in the ML's this year, addresses their bullpen and puts Cabrera back at 3rd base, which is something they really wanted to get done. This hurts the Orioles bullpen though, I expect them to make a move to back this up. Oh and Mariotti has a column for tomorrow "White Sox Cheap Out in not Making Major Move" So, just attempting to compare this to a Sox package it would be Contreras, Marte, Jenks, and (having trouble with the outfielder) Gload I guess. that's a lot for Burnett
  15. QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) David (Lincoln): Steve, if your in Kenny Williams' position what would you do? The key to the Sox success has been their depth and they have a few players coming back from injuries to help further the depth (Hernandez, Marte, Gload). I guess my view is really only to move unless you see something big because the chemistry on the team has been fantastic. Steve Phillips: (12:28 PM ET ) Williams has done a tremendous job. I have so much appreciation for what he has done. He had a vision, put a plan in place, executed and now they are managing it as good as can be. The White Sox should consider either adding complimentary pieces .. middle relief depth, bat off the bench, etc. ... or a significant, All-Star caliber player .. possibly a closer, like Billy Wagner, if he becomes available. To add any other pieces might be risky. But I think they need to do something. Teams that don't make moves because of chemistry have logic for their plan, but players look around and see other teams getting better. If a team doesn't make a move, the teams feels like everyone is catching up. Even a small move makes you feel like you are moving forward. The only other spot that is a ? is 3B. Joe Randa might be a consideration. Holy s***, I actually agree with Steve Phillips!!! I'm very scared.
  16. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) Levine said the Sox would have had to give up 4 players on the current roster for Burnett. Now I ask who? Count (obviously,) Marte (probably,) Crede? Harris? Ozuna? Carl? Way too much for a guy with an average career? I think the first two for sure, then Crede if the deal involves Lowell, and I would guess Carl or Rowand If a that's the rough sketch of any deal that is WAY to much and I would rather see the Sox wait and see if a few more teams fall out of it before July 31st and open up more names on the market
  17. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:52 AM) Contreras, Marte, AND Anderson/Bmac? I may only like this if we get Wagner or another good BP arm. And I really dont want to trade Bmac. I agree, Wagner (or Lidge if the Astros fall out of it) is the piece I would want added at this point. That package is a lot for Burnett.
  18. One of the other threads linked an ESPN article saying it's Julio, Bigbie (sp?) and Penn, so that would definitely mean a Sox offer of Contreras and Marte would have to include McCarthy, but IMO that is WAY too much for Burnett, even if they sign him to an extension (the Orioles would be taking Lowell too)
  19. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) Bruce says Orioles are close to getting Burnett, don'put too much into that because he has the same sources for the Orioles that we do: the internet. I wouldn't be suprised if they got Burnett. I could see where the Marlins would want McCarthy in the deal and KW won't do it, while Orioles are willing to put in their young pitcher Cabrera, that would give them the edge IMO
  20. Too lazy to go back and find them, but I know I posted some panic posts after the A's series last week, no matter how many times we stumble against them I can't get it through my head that games against the A's should be taken completely out of context :banghead
  21. He's starting Sunday night against the Red Sox
  22. As the Cubs stand now they are a money making machine for the Tribune, there's no way they sell them. In fact I wouldn't be suprised that if the Cubs fail to make the post-season this year the higher ups in the Tribune Tower make the Cubs cut payroll, since they still will draw huge attendance with a .500 ball-club Various radio talk shows have discussed this scenario as this is really a make or break year for the Cubs as far as payroll goes, if they fail it will be a youth movement next year, that's one of reasons speculated why their GM is unwilling to get rid of young talent, he knows he might need some of it soon.
  23. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) Any news on the Bulls???? What I've read and heard is that the Bulls have so little salary cap room this year that there probably will be no new additions, especially if they reup with Duhon. So basically the plan is to bring back Curry and Chandler, than after AD's contract is off the books next year they'll have some room
  24. Steve Stone just made a good point on WSCR, basically he said KW probably will make a minor move soon, and then wait for a blockbuster trade if one is needed. Stone feels that with the lead the Sox have they are under no pressure to make a move right now, and can wait a week or two for a few more teams to fall out of it and more players become available
  25. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) Really.. so Yankee and Boston fans are coming in droves to watch us play Detroit and KC.. :headshake Exactly, and the Yankee and Boston fans were at the Oakland series scouting out the stadium!!
