AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!!&#
SoxFan562004 replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Man, watching Freddy tonight was awesome. That outing would have been impressive anywhere, but in Colorado it was amazing -
I'm not 100% sure because I don't have the numbers right in front of me, but isn't the Sox attendance up a good amount from last year at this point? And didn't last year the Yankees series already happened and drew a huge crowd? There were about what, 74k for the LAA series? Yeah, about 38k of that was on the first game, which was 1/2 price and Memorial day, but it was still a sell out and a well attended series. (and yes, I threw all those caveats in there on purpose because you can sit there and nit-pick positive attendance numbers all night, but the bottom line is it's improving) The lack of season ticket base is a huge hinderance. Take today (6/4) for example. Not sure what the exact number was, but I'm sure it was hurt a great deal by the weather. While the storm only lasted for about a half hour, there were warnings and watches starting at noon, I'm sure a lot of people didn't want to risk getting to the park and having it rained out. You can already start to see it around the city, more Sox hats being worn etc... if the Sox continue their strong push the casual fan will drop the Cubs like a bad habit and start coming out more often. The Sox attendance won't magically average 30k overnight. That is asking for a lot of walk-ups and fresh tickets bought (meaning non-season tickets). The gain will be slow, but steady IMO. I think the Sox drew about 1.9m last year. I think they will break 2m this year and improve a good deal on last year. Also, it will help that they can offer a 8-10 game package for Aug/Sep with playoff ticket priority or something along those lines.

The one flaw that these radio stations are making with the selling point of "It's like listening to your I-Pod on shuffle" is that I put the music on my I-Pod, while some suck bag suit from NY put the music on the radio station. Yeah, I love my I-Pod, and get a kick putting it on shuffle and seeing what song pops up, but that's because I PUT THE GOD DAMN SONGS ON THERE!!! Which means I like all the songs on my I-Pod. I'm not going to listen to a radio station just for the wacky factor that might occur if they play the New Kids on the Block followed by Hall and Oates... both bands suck, I don't want to listen to them ever. Q-101 did basically the same thing with a 20 year time span and limiting it self to one basic genre of music. Those S.O.Bs also pulled Loveline off the air, but thank God WCKG is picking it up... I've missed Adam and Dr. Drew for the last couple of months

Cleveland Indians@Chicago Whitesox 6-3-05

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 3, 2005 -> 07:11 PM) They need to get this run in and take back some momentum. Also I did not like the Coco Crisp and Victor Martinez showboating in the Indians dugout after the HR. Well I would suggest that Duque hit them... but he's already tried that!! -

this game is going to get ugly in the top of the 4th, I hope Ozzie has Cotts prepared early -

I don't know if it's just the TV mics or not, but the crowd seems dead tonight... I guess Duque's pitching tonight will do that -
Possible Trade Between the Royals and Angels
SoxFan562004 replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in The Diamond Club
I know early in the season I heard talk that Sweeney would be interested in going to the Dodgers since his roots are in So. Cal, so an Angels trade would make sense. But I think at this point Sweeney would be willing to go to any contender -
Allow me to open a big, fat can of worms.

Personally I have a heard time looking at the "if healthy" debate because I think part of evaluating a team is the health factor. I think it's a strike against the overall Cubs argument that Hendry brought in Nomar who hasn't been healthy for 2-3 years, rely on Borowski (SP?) in the pen who was coming off an injury, and lead your rotation with Prior and Wood, who have been hurt numerous times while letting Clement go who pitches innings every year. So I don't think the 2005 Cubs can be judged on an "if healthy" standard because it's not like these guys got hurt in car accidents, since many of these guys were injury prone coming into the season, and they just had history repeat. Also, Cubs have no leadoff hitter, like last year, and that KILLED them in the push drive, which it will/would have done this year. When they get in close ballgames where they can't tee-off on bad pitching, they can't manufacture runs, that's a MAJOR edge to the Sox It's like the argument about the Lakers last year, "if Shaq and Kobe could co-exist they would have one the championship." While that maybe true, the Lakers should have known there was a real good chance they weren't going to get along and the result that occurred was predictable. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 30, 2005 -> 12:15 PM) Yeah but that piece of s*** show will never go away. It will keep on sucking right into 2020. A Simpsons Movie may have been a good idea in like '96 back when the show was still funny but now it would be just stupid to make a movie out of a show that's not even funny. I agree as well. I love the Simpsons new seasons until about 3-4 years ago. Now it's really bad. They changed the whole style of the show and it comes off to smart for its own good. The episodes surrounding Lisa make me want to puke, they're just way too preachy and annoying

Looks like some of the girls left at a bar during last call -
I don't know much about the high school kids this year, but this draft doesn't look to great. I think Sean May is going to be a solid player and it looks like he's going to be around the mid 1st round. He might be a real good sleeper

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ May 24, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) victor was a one hit wonder Could be. with video-tape and the like now, scouting can really pick someone apart after their first time around.

I wanted to see the Sox go 5-5 on this road trip since it involves the west coast. So 2 more wins and I'll be happy... A.J. is on ESPN Radio right now at a bar across the street from the stadium!!!

Knowing KW, I have a feeling Sweeney, Anderson, Fields, or McCarthy will be gone by July 31st. And I'll have to wait and see what a trade of a top prospect brings, so far I've liked KW's moves

Moronatti jumping on the Sox bandwagon?!

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 21, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Mariotti is always a fun and funny read, even if he is ripping on your team. I agree with you 100%, if your meaning of "always" is never. -
well Dusty is already starting to bring his kid Darin around, so we can all look forward to the press conferences when the Cubs blow another 9th run lead with Darin sitting on his lap. Dusty is either going to have to have another kid or retire, because it's not going to be "cute" when Darin is 16 and sitting on his lap in press conferences

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...phil&id=2064279 says how Dodgers can trade Gagne now that Yhancey is emerging. Says Sox would be interested, then goes on to say how Wood for Gagne would make sense. this one really defies logic to me.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2005 -> 08:14 AM) Could you imagine a bench clearing brawl with the Cubs... Daley would need to call out the national guard like his dad did in 68. Cubs fans would be the hippies in that scenario, although I don't think the MC5 would be playing this time...

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 20, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) Jimenez wore out his welcome in the last few days in Cincy In one of his last games for the Reds baseball tonight showed a highlight of him dogging a play and Gammons really called him out on it basically saying he doesn't play hard. -
Brandon McCarthy To Make Major League Debut
SoxFan562004 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, a lot of pitchers don't like a lot of extra rest unless they really need it. Like when MB was hurt in spring this year and missed a start, his first game back he had some trouble because he felt too strong and was overthrowing. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 21, 2005 -> 10:23 AM) No Dye or Iguchi. Crazy Carl in RF. Sox lineup: LF Scott Podsednik 2B Willie Harris CF Aaron Rowand 1B Paul Konerko C A.J. Pierzynski RF Carl Everett SS Juan Uribe 3B Joe Crede P Jose Contreras Flubs lineup: 2B Jerry Hairston SS Neifi Perez 1B Derek Lee RF Jeromy Burnitz 3B Aramis Ramirez CF Corey Patterson LF Jason Dubois C Henry Blanco P Carlos Zambrano I would like to see Pods and Willie push a couple of bunts down to 3b early today, Ramirez has a bad back and is an average fielder on his best healthy day. The only thing that offsets this a little is that Zambrano is an excellent fielder, but Pods handles the bat well enough to force Ramirez to field a bunt. Catching a break with Barret being hurt, even though his numbers aren't crazy he's still a much better bat than Blanco, and only having one catcher limits Dusty's moves late in a game. Dubois should be interesting against the Count. He's got a ton of raw power, but is a free swinger, if Count can get ahead he should be a perfect victim for the fork ball -
Cooper on the Score right now

The thing that is going to suck about El Duque on the DL is all the "experts" are going to point to this as the beginning of the end for the Sox. -

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ May 21, 2005 -> 09:41 AM) He also said Buerhle knew how to pitch "right out of the womb." He didn't sound real concerned about Duque, just want to give him a little time off. Sorry, can't listen at work right now, did Cooper actually say they wanted to give him time off, or has he not really said anything? thanks in advance! -
Nope, have a landscaping service!

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ May 21, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) So far all he's said is that El Duque goes on the DL tomorrow. s***, that is not good at all. If it was a minor injury they would have optioned the 12th bull-pen dude (holy s*** that's how tired I am, I can't even remember his name). I know they can back date his DL to Monday, so it only means 2 starts, but I think he's out for awhile
