Putting a freeze on the Meltdown talk
SoxFan562004 replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, I was pissed after Saturday and Sundays games, the Sox didn't seem to be playing with much enthusiasm, seemed flat, but i realized that the Cubs are really at a make or break point of their season, they are hovering around .500 and have their two "ace" pitchers coming back (I use the " " marks because while Prior is excellent I think Wood is way overhyped). It just seemed the Cubs were more into both games. I hope the day off will shake up the Sox and Ozzie went crazy in the clubhouse Sunday. I want to see them have better approaches at the plate, while Prior and Maddux pitched good games, the Sox were not patient enough and they seemed to be swinging for the fences way too often. But with that said, they are 8-2 over their last 10 games, and have built their lead to 9 games in the past month or so. Hopefully they'll come out on Tuesday against a good pitcher and refocus. -
Kenny Rogers is getting smacked around tonight against the LAA, I know he is one of the front runners to start as well, so if JG and MB can have solid starts it should be one of them

QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) I disagree. The game against Estes was one game. It doesn't mean anything. The Sox are 5th in runs scored. Their BA sucks, but it has been steadily rising. The only teams with more runs scored are Texas, Boston, Baltimore and New York. Baltimore's pitching is okay, but the other three suck, staffwise. The Sox offense is just fine, and if Frank continues to be Frank, it will only get better. I think Estes pitched well against the tribe in his last outing, obviously didn't get the win, but I think he held them to like 2 ER's in 6-7 innings

I'll check baseballamerica.com stats every now and then, haven't checked in awhile and noticed Borchard's numbers have seriously jumped in HR's and Avg. Anyone who follows this know if this is a positive trend, ie cutting down on Ks etc... or is it just a hot streak where he's running into a lot of fastballs?

QUOTE(bighurt4444 @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) Even if the Sox game didn't end until 25 minutes in, Baseball Tonight still shows highlights of games that are in progress. Which I didn't see if they did. You would think two first place teams playing each other would be a higher priority. This media disregard for the Sox doesn't usually bother me, but this time it just rubs me the wrong way. Sorry for my first topic posting to be a negative one, but this just bothered me. I have been observing this site for a long time, but I just never usually post. I'm not sure on the Sunday show if they do show the updates since they replay the 6 at 11:30, and I think they want to give the impression it's live. (hence they insert highlights of the Sunday night game, which replaces a little preview they do on the 6)

Good to see his mother has her head on straight

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 12, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) I don't think anyone will pass ARod's salary anytime soon. That year was just plain crazy for signing players. only possible way I see it happening is if the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets and another high revenue/payroll team all set their sights on a #1 starter that hits the FA market, and even then, I only see like a back-loaded last year of that deal being more than A-Rod. I think it would take a rare exception, I'm pretty sure no player who has ever signed a 100m+ contract has won the world series

QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) It's seems that there could be underlying reasons for not promoting JHood and Lawrence Holmes... lol, not 100% sure what you mean...... but after the Michael Jackson trial winds up, Jessie Jackson will have some free time.....
-
QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:59 PM) After they jerked around JHood and gave Telander his show...? I dunno... True, I forgot about that. It seems like Hood hasn't really been on the good side of management at WSCR, it seems like when there's been some openings they don't give him a shot. I like Steve Rosenbloom (sp?) a lot, but I don't know if the Score is going to attempt to go with another columnist as a lead guy.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) God I hope not. The last thing we need is to be trading 1 of the guys in our bullpen with an ERA below 3. Not if we're making a playoff run. Especially not if the guy is a lefty. 2 quality or near-quality left handers in your bullpen gives you a ton of options in the playoffs, and that's a very good thing. Yeah, I'm not advocating trading Cotts, I just think that he would have some value now, and KW probably would be more likely to trade him over McCarthy at this point. Although I know B-Mac has been struggling in AAA, do any of the guys who monitor the minors here know if his prospect status is being hurt, or is h is K/BB stilll strong enough and the Charlotte park enough of a bandbox?
-
I've always like Neils arm, but wanted to see him at AAA being a starter. He's really turned me around this year. He's throwing strikes and has done a great job settling into a bullpen role. He's been rock solid lately. This might be out on a limb, but if KW does make a move (and Marte isn't seriously hurt) I wouldn't be suprised if Cotts is a young pitcher they use as bait. If he keeps pitching this way, a team can easily stretch him out next ST for a starters role.

I like Telander's written work, but his radio show was very shaky. For one he wasn't there enough to establish a rhythm. I hope Hood or Holmes get a shot, I like both of them.

nah, I end up going to a few Cubs games a year with free tickets or bachelor party. I would suggest just going and being laid back, I don't wear my Sox gear there (unless they are playing the Sox) because it's just asking for trouble with some of the drunk fans. I just go and enjoy hanging with my friends and taking in a ball game...

eh, 5 years ago I would have been excited as hell for this, but IMO the quality of the Simpsons has taken a hard drop in the last few seasons. The writing is very preachy now.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 06:19 AM) I really didn't think so during the trial, but supposedly the longer the jury is out, the worse it is for Jackson... Now where is my sticker? Unless they stay out for a real long time, then odds are they're going to be hung. I think he will be found not guilty or hung jury, although I think he is guilty personally

I think I'm pretty good at putting sports and the circus that surrounds it in perspective, meaning I love to watch it for entertainment purposes but try not to get personally pissed about.... but Maranotti drives me crazy. First, he prints half truths or total B.S. He obviously writes with an agenda, and ESPN and the Sun Times lets him do it with no ramifications. I don't know anybody that likes his writings, yet he has a job at a big newspaper and gets valuable face time on ESPN... I don't usually wish for people to get fired, but I really hope at some point Sun Times and ESPN wise-up and can this dick face

QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 12:22 AM) I don't remember Major League 2 as vividly as the first (as you can see), but he probably did because of the whole "It's-a-sequel-so-we-have-to-repeat-what-we-did-in-the-original" rule. Hey, in my opinion Major League 2 NEVER existed!!

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 11:10 PM) With Gload getting hurt again is their anyone out there that KW can get to backup Konerko that is our huge weakness... right now would have to look at the teams way out of the race. First two that would come to mind is Houston and the Reds... I don't mean trade for Casey or Bagwell, but look to see who they have on their bench who could fill the role (yes, I know Bagwell is hurt anyway).

ESPN pulls out of coaches' poll, BCS process
SoxFan562004 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The BCS is such a trainwreck at this point. It's so beyond f***ed up, with AD's just trying to protect their slice of the money. I liked that Congress looked into the steroid problem in sports, and would love to see them take further steps to regulate some sports. For starters I would want them to clean up the boxing mess, then look into the college sports cluster f*** that goes on... I'm not advocating paying these kids salaries, but when the schools are making millions of them and some can't even afford to go out for pizza or stories of guys who can't even afford basics, it really makes me sick. -
Now This is Some Heated Competition
SoxFan562004 replied to farmteam's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The great part about these obscure shows is it gives more fuel for "Cheap Seats" on ESPN Classic.... it's kind of like a MST3k with some of the ESPN/ABC catalog of stupid events they have televised. I agree the spelling bee can be entertaining, but for me, not in the way they intend it to be. It gives off a real creepy vibe, especially when you hear about how some of these kids study like 6 hours a day or live with their coaches. Now when they show the Scrabble tournament and those misfits chose to be televised that's one thing, but when kids are being televised at an akward age it's a little odd... but I still laugh my ass off. And yeah, if you want to see some seriously creepy dudes, watch if they ever show the Scrabble tournament again... -
QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) Soxfan- Give me one manager that has done everything perfect for an entire season... There has never been a perfect manager, and never will be. Still doesn't mean I can't question some of Ozzie's moves. I would much rather see Uribe, Ozuna, Crede, or even Widger at 1b then ever seeing Timo there. If Gload is out for a significant time, I think that a back-up corner infielder is something KW will seriously have to address.

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) Im so sick and tired of these so called whitesox fans bad mouthing Ozzie while the team is 20 games over 500 and have the best record in baseball.. Ozzie has made some mistakes but no Mgr is perfect... Guillen will be the Mgr of the year... Hey, I'm thrilled about the way the White Sox have played this year, but it doesn't mean I have to agree with 100% of what Ozzie does. I have seen him make some questionable moves during the season, and I don't think it's fair that I'm not considered a true fan since I don't blindly follow everything he does. I'll save that sort of blind-faith for those fans of the Cubs....

Somebody better check Timo's locker for a Ross Gload vodoo doll!!!

Generally I agree with Juggernauts initial post in this thread. If the Sox keep winning series the odds are substantially in their favor that they are going to win the division, and they way it's going, worst case scenario win the wild-card. But, with many solid ideas there is room for exceptions, and the game tomorrow is one where Ozzie needs to try and win that game. For starters, they have the day off on thursday, so no real need to rest the bull-pen, he should go balls out with match-ups and the like, including not pushing el duque to far The Twins have Santana going tomorrow, while I know he isn't last years Santana he is still one hell of a pitcher, and I give the Twins a great shot to win tomorrow. Couple that with the Twins playing Thursday why the Sox are idle, the Sox could win this series with 2 out of 3, but still easily lose a game and half with a Twins win on Thursday. 2 and 1/2 looks a hell of alot worse than 3 and 1/2. I know it's still early, and the difference in standings right now is is merely psychological, I would still like to see Ozzie pull back on his "get guys ABs and playing time" thought process, and play his normal line-up tomorrow.

Trying to think like Ozzie for a second.... I think Timo would look awesome at short stop!!
