Kerry Wood blames Stone for '04 discord
SoxFan562004 replied to Jabroni's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
That Trib article takes Stones comments way out of context, making Stone look bad IMO Listening to the whole interview Stone was asked by Boers and Bernstein, which Stone is a paid analyst for the Score now, about Kerry Wood's mechanics. Stone then said numerous scouts and people in the Cubs organization have told him he most likely needs to change his mechanics to have a long and healthy career, and then Stone said something along the lines of; "if you want to take all the money you made and not change your mechanics you can go sell cars, but if you want a long career you have to change your mechanics." IMO he was asked a legitimate question about Wood's mechanics, and he basically said he needs to change them or he will be hurt all the time. -
I was at Caesar's last week and I think the Sox opened at something like 30-1 to win the AL, now they were down to roughly 15-1

Prior: past steroid user?
SoxFan562004 replied to Steve Bartman's my idol's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I hate the Cubs as much as anyone, and I think Prior has been anointed a goldenboy without proving he can stay healthy, but I don't think he's on/was on the juice. If the size of his calves went down I would attribute it to the occurence of the achille's injury. When he was going through it people said it may be attributable to the size of his calves, so he probably reduced the size to ease on his achilles. I think people were very wrong about his mechanics, and it's turning out he has poor mechanics instead of the perfect ones that were reported. Mike Marshall called his mechanics out before the injuries started. I also think, and Steve Stone reported people within the Cubs organization thought this too, that Prior is not willing to pitch through pain others are. Now, that could be smart on his part or not. -
After the 5th starter fiasco of the last 2 years I say all the potentially servicable arms the Sox can stockpile the better

Anyone know when Sportscenter is doing the ALC?

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) I predict Baseball tonight guys pick the Sox in 3rd place..... ....and sucking the Cubs off like there is no tomorrow -
FWIW Caesar's Palace in Vegas does a bunch of pre-season baseball bets, and one was basically this question... Caesar's had Pods the HEAVY favorite, Can't remember the exact number but he was like -130 or something

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 07:32 PM) I also worked at a grocery, and absolutely hated it. I got a new job for the summer though....woo hoo! I admire you guys who work at grocery stores. It seems like people check their sanity at the door in those stores. I worked at TCF bank inside a Jewel and saw what complete nutcases and assholes some people can be in grocery stores.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) Barry Bonds: When do you think he got on the juice? I would guess around the 2000 season... that's what his girlfriend testified to the grand jury that he said he started using.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) IMO Barry Bonds will never play again. That would be OK by me! I wish when he went into the HOF they could separate his numbers, because he was a teriffic player before I think he started doing juice

QUOTE(rangercal @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) He said he's done until mid season. says he is physically and emotionally tired. more to come..... Wow, I'm sure his wife isn't thrilled with all the girl friend stories in the media. But maybe he actually has a soul and knows he's a sham and doesn't want to break Aaron's record (This probably should be in green)

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) You don't see it as much but it's hard to prove tendonitis or a hamstring tweak. I have a hard time imagining either player going along with it. It seems farfetched and would be sad that we'd have to sit one of two pitchers who combine to make around $14 million yearly. I agree, they may have not been the greatest in ST, but Hernadez pitched well in his starts for NY last year and Contreras pitched well at the Cell last year. I would like to see how those two do in the regular season and let B-Mac have a consistent schedule down in the minors in case somebody really gets hurt

Joe Borowski breaks hand.

Yeah, if Cubs trainers actually say you're out for weeks at a time I would make sure my will was in order -
QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 22, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) Looks like we'll see Mark B. on Opening Day, great news. Love it. Assuming this continues to go well, all they need to do is figure out the last bullpen spot, sort out the utility IF situation, and come north. Interesting snippet from this morning though ... Levine was on AM 1000, he said not to be shocked if either Contreras or Hernandez comes up with a mysterious/phantom injury, thereby making a spot for Brandon McCarthy in the starting rotation for the time being. Sounds goofy to me, and it is Bruce Levine, and he was simply speculating. But he definitely wasn't kidding, he said the Sox are intent on taking their best pitchers north and will not have much patience for veterans who aren't ready to go. Just thought I'd pass it along. I'm not 100% sure, but isn't MLB pretty strict about DL stints? It's not like NBA where there are "wink wink" injuries, but I think MLB makes the clubs back the injuries up and doesn't allow teams to play games.

I wonder what the plan will be if MB will only have to miss 1 or 2 starts to begin the season. It sounds like it's not going to be the 4-6 weeks first reported. Anyone know if the schedule will allow a 4 man rotation for the first 2 weeks? I doubt they'll bring B-Mac up for 2 weeks, I imagine if they need a fifth starter they'll have Hermanson or Adkins do it.

Diamondbacks @ Sox Spring training game
SoxFan562004 replied to 3E8's topic in 2005 Season in Review
FWIW I thought Freddy looked pretty good except the second inning. I think he retired like 10 of the last 11 he faced, and he had very good location with his pitches, there were a few severe jam pitches into the D'Back hitters. I saw him hit 90-92 on the gun today as well... -

I watched the game, and even though those two gave up homers, I thought they looked pretty good, they just kind of hung pitches for the homers, but looked good the rest of the inning.... key was there was no one on base, both solo -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) even if CT Scans show that there is no break i wouldnt mind if he sat out a start or 2 just to make sure a break doesnt happen. I agree 100%, MB is not a power pitcher who needs to build up a ton of arm strength, he can miss a start or two and be basically ready to jump in the rotation. Better be safe than sorry at this point

SoxFan562004 replied to 3E8's topic in 2005 Season in Review
it sounds like listening to the last update on the Score the Sox are thinking it's either broken or it's nothing, they're not worried about anything more serious... but until it's final, I'm worried!!!! -

they said he is getting the new scan at about 4:00 Chicago time, results should come in about 2 hours -
Well, I'm going to go into panic mode over the MRI being inconclusive. It seems there was an injury of some sort, and in my layman's opinion, I think a break is better than not knowing. If it was a break he would heal up and come back, but anything else can linger. I guess we will get a better answer at about 6:00. Hopefully it's good news, but I'm not thrilled that the new MRI gave no answers.

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 19, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) Going to see Rob Thomas... show starts at 7 I had figured we'd get there by 5... glad I asked as that sounds like it will be to early. Thanks.. Yeah, if it it's a sold out shot, I would say 5 may be a little too late... something around 3 would be ideal
