  1. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) Michael Bennett and a #2 for Anquan Boldin? The Cardinals are a very bad organization. Michael Bennett hasn't been healthy for two years and Boldin showed what he can do in 03. Boldin and Larry Fitz were in mismatched roles last year which affected Boldin's role (besides the knee injury). I think the Vikings would LOVE to make this happen That would be an awesome deal for the Vikes... simply amazing if AZ goes through with this.
  2. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) My problem witht hepayroll thing is a bit different. I feel that it is smart to leave yourself some room. If Buehrle tears a rotator cuff (god forbid) then you'd want to have an out. I agree with the Beane theory as far as part of the season is finding out who you are and what you need. But, my issue is with the trades. I feel that we overpay in terms of prospects to avoid actually paying the players contracts. I hope that the payroll room means that we won't trade one of the big three prospects in order to avoid paying another milion or two. That is because that is very shortsighted. You don't invest 2 million in signing bonus money and time developing to skimp out on the same money later. As far as the interview, pretty much company line stuff and nothing new. Well I think if the Sox make an off-season move another one of the top OF prospects is gone (anderson or sweeney) since Dye is signed for 2-3 years, Pods is still only 27 or 28, A-Row is young, it's the area of depth.
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) Thanks for the update. Based on the sox m.o. the last few years with KW, I couldn't see the sox passing up chances to improve midseason. It's good to hear JR confirm they could put out some cash to get a guy or two. I think they are taking a wait and see attitude with money because of Frank. I think they really want to see where he's at, because if he's healthy they don't need to find another power hitter, but if he's not going to recover well or quickly enough they may have to spend their money there
  4. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) So you don't trust Arnie Munoz after that fabulous outing in Montreal? Yeah, that was a hard one to overlook, but still no faith!! I do like Cotts as a pitcher, but not as a situational pitcher at this point. In fact, I would almost rather see the Sox use Adkins as a bullpen pitcher and stretch out Cotts and put him in AAA to be the 6th starter
  5. I think Santo playing the "dying card" is working against him. I for one am glad when he doesn't make it because he campaigns so much...
  6. Good to see Rooney and Farmer giving it to Marte. I know it's early in ST, but I think Marte has to have a quality ST, if not the Sox are in a bit of a jam for situational lefties...
  7. QUOTE(ShySox72 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) That makes me sick. I was pissed when he went to the HOF with a Red Sox cap. My in-laws are bandwagon Red Sox fans. Man I f'in hate the Red Sox. I think Fisk is one of the reasons that the HOF now selects which hat you wear into the hall. I know he was known for the '75 series, but a vast majority of his career was with the White Sox, but with the way he was released and no bridge mending by JR or Fisk at that point, there was zero chance of him picking the White Sox. FWIW, he works out at the Gym I go to every now and then, and during the world series he was wearing a Red Sox shirt (useless info, I know)
  8. I agree with Terry Boers about the Phil Rogers article.... Anyone working for the Tribune calling someone a "company man" is an absolute joke
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) I've been offered every job I've ever interviewed for. I know you didn't ask me, but I would rather hear weaknesses rather than bs. We're only human. EVERYONE could stand a bit of improvement. IMO, it shows more strength to admit there are areas you know are not your best assets. I was asking everyone, didn't mean to single out Kap... and yeah I agree, it makes me puke when people like Tracy Flick from "Election" are so over the top
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) Interview advice, both from an interviewee and an interviewer. BE YOURSELF. By the way, it's ok to pause, it's ok to think about your answer before rattling it off. As the guy sitting across the table from you I would rather you took a second to gather your thoughts and tell me what you really think then spouting off some BS answer. That tells me that you are a person that will think about what they say rather then have a foot up your mouth when you're talking. You don't have to have an answer to every question. If you don't know, you don't know, and the job might not be the job you thought it was. I've walked away from plenty of interviews on my own because it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. It's a tough market, but you have to pick yourself back up, chalk it up to experience, and be ready next time. I agree 100% I've always been cited as being a "good interview" and I just take a few deep breaths and keep a smile on my face. Kap, what do you think about "jive" answers? Like if someone asks you what a weakness is, the "books" say answer "Well I don't have weaknesses, I only have areas I need improvements..." -I think that's BS and so phony, and I just admit to them I'm a prograstinator, but I'm able to get my work done on time. -but yeah be yourself, you don't want to put on a charade and then have to live that lie when you work there, happiness at work is important!
  11. OK, their fans paid money to eat spaghetti with pieces of a baseball in it... I can't think of a better reason to hate somebody. I think Nomar will be plenty hateable too, and Wood is overyhyped, hate that!
  12. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1998917 Glad to see he's not out for the year, he's an exciting player to watch
  13. "May God Have Mercy" for my Federal Habeas Corpus class and "Juiced" by Jose Canseco
  14. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) I might be a whiny baby too if "fans" treated me like yesterdays garbage when a new shiny product arrives, still in it's shrinkwrap, even though it's never yet been plugged in for real world testing. If you get what I mean. We are assuming Iggy's going to be better than Harris...and I hope he is...but until he's played a game in the Majors and prooves he's better than Harris, let's not toss Willie out the side window for nothing in return. Because THAT is just stupid. Well Willie did enough (or not enough) last year to make the fans have the attitude of wanting a change. He didn't get the job done last year, I'm excited KW is trying to improve the team...
  15. I really hope this works and IL adopts it. There is nothing that makes me more insane behind the wheel then when I waste a half hour because two people had a fender bender. Especially when you see the people who actually are "gapers" the ones who slow down to a basic stop and just gape like a slack jawed asshole!!
  16. QUOTE(POTUSChris @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 11:01 PM) Happy Birthday! Thanks POTUS and Prawn!!
  17. QUOTE(flippedoutpunk @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) those pictures are photoshopped, that is clearly jose valentins body... If you're going to steal his body, wouldn't you steal his porn mustache too?
  18. QUOTE(Yoda @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) Happy Birthday, Soxfan562004!!! Thanks Yoda!
  19. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 02:04 AM) I think the Bills are a playoff team next year...but I don't view them anywhere close to a Superbowl team. If they make the superbowl, I will eat something pretty crazy. I think with a rookie QB you won't have to eat anything that isn't sane
  20. QUOTE(JimH @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) One year at $3.5M. The ship on Valentin has sailed though, I seriously doubt they'd even consider him. There are too many other good options for a utility player. Ozzie was really turned off by all of his strikeouts last year. wow, looks like a lot of baseball people soured on him a little. I think he was making 5m per with the Sox. He is a good clutch hitter which clouded my mind a little from all the strikeouts.
  21. wow, just looked at these... AWESOME job!! The Iguchi one with the immigration papers totally rocks! I'm going to throw it on my laptop when I get back from work... excellent work!
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) History says Valentin should be back by June lol, maybe Joey Cora will unretire. But seriously, I think Jose would be an ideal back-up IF, but with the pop he has in his bat he's too pricy for that. I don't think the Dodgers are going to be overly thrilled with him at 3b and hitting in that Grand Caynon-esque ball park. Anybod remember what his contract $$$ was?
  23. QUOTE(JimH @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) I'm thinking the same thing. Great signature BTW, looks really sharp. You should send it in to Brooks Boyer and see if they might want to use it for some promo stuff. Goldmember is the best!!!
  24. I think that's a good choice. The transition will be difficult, so let him concentrate on one position. I hope Sox are able to swing a deal for a veteran back-up or maybe a suprise vetran will be cut by another team...
  25. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) Hope you have a good one SoxFan! I'll try! But have work and school until 8:30, but going to try and make it out for a few drinks after.
