I've seen this scenario coming for awhile... The Cubs failed in getting a closer and a legitimate top of the order hitter (i know Harriston is an upgrade, but not a proven year in, year out top of the order hitter). So they are going to sign Maggs because it will make a huge media splash in Chicago and overshadow some of their problem areas. You will see Mariotti and all the TV news stations portray the Sox as bad guys, while failing to mention the impossible situation the Sox were put in by the arbitration system and never having access to Magg's updated medical files. Think about it... most of the Cubs fans I know will go crazy over the signing, they know very little to nothing about the Major league arbitration system or the fact that Maggs health is highly questionable... look at Nomar from last year... he came to this town hurt playing at about 80%, but it was a big name and the Cubs fans ate it up. This is why Boras is a great agent... he may be evil, but he gets the job done... Maggs hasn't worked out for anybody, but he's getting offers from 2 teams (Det. and ChiC) with the Mets possibly offering.

unless it's being reported otherwise, I don't see why signing Burnitz would prevent the Cubs from signing Maggs. This team is expected to compete for the World Series this year, and having a Dubois/Hollandsworth rotation in left just doesn't cut it IMO

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 05:33 PM) They showed clips of his wedding ceremony a few weeks ago. He looked like his usual giant headed self. The head will be the last thing to shrink back down. I will be interested to see a lot of players this year at ST and Sosa tops that list

Harris: 'I'm not ruling myself out'

Too bad for Willie that it appears KW and Ozzie have counted him out -
If this deal goes down I'm convinced that Hendry and Baker determined there was no possibility of Sosa working in Chicago in '05.... There options are so limited in the outfield now that Maggs is getting a multi-year offer from the Tigers... I would assume Hendry has other deals in place, even beyond a Burnitz signing because adding Hariston Jr. and Burnitz doesn't really make them a stronger team than with Sosa.

WTF? Man, I'm in Colorado and haven't checked the board for like 3 days, this Maggs s*** is mind boggling. There has to be a crucial piece of info missing from these rumors, like Tigers get voidable years. but it doesn't make a difference, because he's going to give the Cubs a hometown discount
-
Wow, sounds like the White Sox and Willie are done. Once you get on KW's s*** list you are pretty much done with the team... i.e. Wunsch
-
wow, reading the Delgado deal it is seriously back loades... he gets around 4m this year then up and up... that's going to be a hell of a contract when he's 36 and making about 16m a year

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) Carlos Delgado is signing with the Marlins per ESPN 1000 for 4-years, $52 million. Here's a NYNewsDay link... "Delgado chooses Marlins" http://www.nynewsday.com/sports/baseball/m...ports-headlines well, it will be interesting to see if SamME goes to the Mets now...

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) Of course Maggs hasn't worked out for the Tigers yet :rolly He just cancelled another workout... Anyone signing him for any amount of money or years would have to see at least 1 workout... if the Tigers sign him for multi-years they should want multiple workouts within days of each other to be sure he just didn't gear it up and grit through one workout

QUOTE(quickman @ Jan 25, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) thanks for the rah rah...this is a dead end thread. I agree, if I want to be lectured I'll ask my dad about the work ethic of my generation

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 06:51 PM) They got out from under Belle last year, which is why they hit the FA market hot and heavy. I believe Belle's contract is the one most people point to as the one that sent some serious warning signs off with the insurance companies... Until Belle's disaster the insurance companies were doing well, but they saw how horribly wrong it can go...

Sweet, it works, thanks Gold!!

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 11:26 PM) Goldmember did something because it's not showing up in his post. OK, thanks! It was driving me crazy... and thanks for your help in posting it, I got it to work, but the Red X isn't quite as cool
-
OK, for some reason the shingo/iguchi sig is now putting a red x with "user posted image" However, this is the only image that is doing it, and it was showing up fine like 2 minutes before i went to add it!!! Any suggestions?
-
Thanks Goldmember... it's awesome!! I'll add it when I get to my home computer!!

if the Iguchi signing becomes official can someone make me a sig with Shingo and Iguchi and US Cellular with something like "Little Tokyo" or "Orient Express... Next stop the South Side" (If these would be offensive terms, please don't include them, but I would still like the sig)

Iguchi very close to signing a 2 yr deal?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) damn this thing is starting to get dragged out............... Im not sold on Iguchi at all, but the signing can't hurt, its not my $$ right?? Get a deal done. Yeah, I'm not 100% sold on him either... but at this point I think the Sox need a back-up IF who isn't a "rookie" Now I know Iguchi would be technically a rookie, but he has performed in a league where other players have came to MLB and had success (i know there is failures too). I just would feel better with him than Wilson Valdez. I would have been OK with a tragically average MLB vetran back-up like Enrique Wilson, Alex Gonzalez, etc... but those guys are gone now, so Iguchi is the best option out there barring a trade -
The one decent show they had besides Boers/Bernstein, and that one's gone too. Yet Mike North still works. Tragic. :headshake that's too bad, I liked Me and Z on Saturday mornings or nights. I can only agree with you half way on Boers and Bernstein. I use to be a really big fan, but the down-turn in the ratings isn't really a suprise, I've found myself shutting them off more and more. It just seems they flip-flop on issues SO much, and they're so arrogant (notably Bernstein) when they take a position, that when they change opinions without acknowleding their previous stance, it gets frustrating. -for example, when Nomar first got here Bernstein was gizzing over him saying what an "exciting" player he is and how he just loves to watch him warm-up... well this was a double flip-flop, because when the Sox were going to get him last year he said what a dud he was, and then when he was hurt at the end of the season he was really down on him and saying things along the ilk of "yeah, i always had my doubts" -there's a bunch of situations like that. I still listen because when they're being silly, they're really funny, also Boers has some real good NBA/MLB sources, he doesn't come out and make statements, but he implies things and talks about talking to "his guys" and a lot of that stuff comes to pass

Iguchi very close to signing a 2 yr deal?
SoxFan562004 replied to Winnin Ugly's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Phil Rogers was on WSCR this morning and a fan called in and asked about Iguchi... Rogers didn't add anything new about him signing (one of the co-hosts said the Sox are still after him, and Rogers didn't say either way where they're at in negotiations). But he did say why the Sox are pursuing him. He said the Sox think the Willie isn't assertive enough at the plate. Sox feel Iguchi will be able to hit 2nd and drive the ball more... -
Iguchi very close to signing a 2 yr deal?
SoxFan562004 replied to Winnin Ugly's topic in Pale Hose Talk
with the whole last name/first name on jersey conversation, I believe that in some Asian countries the "First" name is the family name... so like my name is Stanley Kosek... in certain countries it would be Kosek Stanley... not sure if Japan is like this, but I believe China is.. hence "Yao" -

ESPN 1000 did say that Sox still have interest in Iguchi... they reported that today, so things may be stirring up -
Not sure if this is posted elsewhere, but ESPN 1000 via Levine is saying Maggs has cancelled another workout scheduled for this week

QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 06:57 AM) 7 Bucks total for a Wristband? no... If I'm reading this correctly it would be $3 per wristband... you have to order them incraments of 5, so that's $10 for 5 wristband plus the $5 for shipping and handling... so I think you have to send them a check for at least $15
