QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 01:57 AM) On that subject, Nancy will be given an award at the Pitch and Hit Club Annual Dinner this Sunday afternoon and evening. Also there that night are going to be Ozzie, Aaron Rowand, Cotts, and Borchard. John Rooney will be emceeing. The dinner is at the Donald Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, and there is a Pitch and Hit Club website, www.pitchandhitclub.com, with details. Autographs at 4:00, cocktails at 4:30, then the dinner. Nancy will be back at the Cell this year, in the second year of her two year contract. My friend Jan does the programs for this event... completely needless piece of info... but there it is!!

I think the only reason she got the show is because her Dad/manager leveraged the "Newlyweds" show with Jessica to get it for her. He basically said, if you want "newlyweds" again, you have to give Ashlee a show.... and then all the "angst" ridden teenagers bought the prepackaged Ashlee hook line and sinker

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 11:03 PM) Most people here probably know, but it's worth reiterating: Arbitration is non-negotiable. If a player wants 8 and the team wants 1, the arbitrator can't just pick 5 if that's what he thinks. The arbitrator has to choose amongst the two figures. I think you are right about Gagne losing his case last year. Yeah, I think the arbitration system should be reformed, I always thought it was weird that there's a win/lose system...
-
I love the home Jets Joe Namath jersey. If a quality replica wasn't like $400.00 I would buy one
-
arbitration is sometimes a crap shoot... I don't remember the exact numbers but I know people were suprised how little Gagne ended up getting last off-season

The question is "which GM did more to improve their team?" Choices are obviously KW and Jim Hendry. And Hendry actually has 20% of the votes!!!! Cubs fans are a bunch of dips***s, plain and simple... Yeah, Cody Ransom is bringing them to the postseason!! I love it... beginning of the offseason and right after the collapse of last year the Cubune and Cubs fans were saying how awesome Beltran was and how he's going to come to the Cubs for a discount... so what happens when the Cubs offer him a low-ball offer??? Hendry gets praise for not overpaying the same guy they were hyping.... baaaaaaaa-baaaaaaaaaaaaaa bunch of stupid sheep

I think it might have been a resigning, but the Celtics signing Blount (sp?) to his long term deal was horrible

Report: Mets, Beltran finalizing deal
SoxFan562004 replied to Scwible's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Beltran to the Cubs seemed to be more of a media creation. I heard a report that Boras hadn't talked to the Cubs in like a week and a half. I personally think the whole "no trade clasue" thing is a Boras smoke-screen to make his client look better. that seems like something that could have been dealt with if brought up... Boras used it as a trump card so some of the blame can fall on the Astros. He got roughly what he was asking for with only 2 serious bidders. And the Beltran/Astros situation proves to me even more that Maggs won't be giving any "hometown" discount to the Cubs... that statement in my opionion was a negotiations strategy to get Orioles, Astros and other teams interested to make larger offers... -
Whatever the hell that was Ashely Simpson was screeching at the Orange Bowl... I think it was called "La, La, La"
-
I would love for them to take Mike Williams or the best WR in the draft. However, I see Angelo trading down for two picks in the 1st round
-
Never liked Ray his first go around, would rather stick with Willie this year...
-
Gave a B, because there was no B+.... A is easily attained with one more veteran infielder... doesn't have to be the Japanese dude or a "wow" addition... just a solid platoon player to push Willie some...
-
http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/h...s_hou&fext=.jsp OK, any fear that the Cubs will swoop down and sign Beltran should be gone after this... Basically says Astros upped offer to 7 years 100m

White Sox and Iguchi far apart in Negotiations

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 03:50 AM) I hope WSCR's sources are credible. If 600k is all that's separating us from Iguchi, I'm fairly confident he will be a White Sox. yeah, it's been up and down for both ESPN and WSCR this off-season, I think WSCR was on the AJ story the last day or so way more than ESPN and Levine (But I think Levine is on vacation, so probably out of touch for the most part) -

WSCR is saying that KW said the Sox are not close to signing Iguchi, and still say they're about 600k apart.... we will see -
QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) Turn on the radio. NO BS Just teasing! But I don't think the client who's meeting with the attorney I clerk for would appreciate paying me to listen to the radio.... they can't see my computer screen though! OK, I'm eating some crow after this signing, and boy does it taste great!! This is a good offseason, I wanted that extra bat in the line-up and KW delivered!!

White Sox exact offer to A.J. Pierzynski...
SoxFan562004 replied to Jabroni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) I think that KW's comments that we would have our final team decided by the end of this week has made a lot of people think that the moves would have been completed already. Sometimes I think KW would be best served giving more evasive answers... he gets too specific sometimes and it corners him -

QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) Well I know people getting angry about how aj or iguchi hasnt signed yet. Were still talking to them until Kenny Willams says theres no chance or unless someone signs them then dont get angry. What fun is that????? -
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor..._tim&id=1960521 good article about how much is Beltran really worth... makes some real good points, but the guy is still a stud

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) I have heard the low side is 72 and up to 75 for the right players. Or if we were gonna make a push at the dead line. I think pierz is the ''right'' player. every team got 4 million from the XM Radio deal, and I'm sure the Sox are adding revenue from the Comcast deal... -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) How do we exactly know what the Sox budget is? Since when did we get into the 75 million range like a lot of people on this board seem to think? I've always thought we were more in the 66-70 range. Before the Lee trade it was at 72 I think, and there was talk it was going to be 72-75... just speculation though -
