I give JR as much as anyone else about his running of the ballclub... but this is totally separate and I wish him all the best!!

yeah, but the Sox were classy enough to mention "charity" on their wristband, and I believe the Cubs just have "believe" and the Cubs logo on it... it's always about them!

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 06:22 PM) Smoking is noted to be bad for one's health, in particular one's lung capacity. If he were performing to his (self stated) capabilities I would have less problem with a health risk habit which arguably deprives him somewhat of his best asset ... running fast. He's not performing to the best of his self stated abilities, therefore IMO he should kick the habit. Also confirms for me he's not that bright. He's an athlete ... eat well, take good care of yourself, chances are great you'll perform better. Adam and Dr. Drew have actually brought this up before on Loveline... Adam pointing out that athletes use to smoke all the time back in the day. Dr. Drew (who is a board certified physician) said that any noticable effects from smoking on lung capacity takes many years to develop, so it probably isn't really an effect on Willie. However, I do agree that it doesn't portray the best image and mind set...

Who is the best player on the Sox

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) You know, I really that was due to the nature of the injury. He tore his tricep, and I believe that effected his swing that whole season after he returned from the injury. I really hope with all the steroid/supplement activities coming to light Frank gets more attention. While all these juiced up monsters were putting up bigger numbers than Frank I think he became an afterthought in many ways. But I hope when he retires the national media picks up on the idea that he was most likely a clean player (In my opinion there's no chance in hell the man used steroids, and I know most people would agree with me) and deserves more credit than say a Giambi, who beat him out for MVP in 2000 I believe -
i heard KW has the flu and isn't there tonight... does anyone know if he plans on being there at all this weekend? Because I think if he's there for a Q&A we will have a better clue on the Iguchi signing. I don't expect him to say "yes we will be signing him at 7:13 on Monday" or anything specific... but if it's still a possibility he'll go into his "under the radar" mode, however I think if he's ruled it out he will say so...

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) I feel bad for Sweeney either way. He signed for that price because he wants to be with that team and see them do well. He doesn't deserve to be lied to like that. I agree... this is why I hope the baseball economics change... I mean I b**** as much as everyone else about the Sox payroll, but at least they stay competitive... what would the point of being a KC or Pitt fan be? You have no chance of being competitive or keeping your stars

allright, this may be a stupid point, but what's the time difference in Japan? It's possible that Iguchi is in the middle of the night, and any deal would have to obviously be signed off by him... so KW and his agent may have had a great conversation, but they need to talk to him...

The Orioles began gathering medical information on free agent outfielder Magglio Ordoñez, who missed most of last season with a knee injury and as a result may command less in salary. -- Washington Post read that on si.com... to add to it a little I heard on the radio (I think ESPN) that the Orioles are doing more than just looking at the records that Boras provided... they are talking to doctors who examined him... but with the medical privacy laws in-place I'm sure this was arrainged by Boras

QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) i thought KW was to be on the score today but on their update Telender didnt mention KW being on the score.. Maybe KW is talking to Iguchi agent When I was listening at the start of the show they just said "A White Sox guest"...

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) I really hope the third year is a team option. I just don't want this team to be stuck with a worthless contract incase he doesn't pan out... But whatever. He'll be a welcome addition to this team, and even if he doesn't play very well, he'll carry his weight just by being such a huge PR influence halfway around the globe... Yeah, but I feel bad for the Cubune writers because then they would have to do a story about how Japanese players don't pan out in the MLB.... then throw in a paragraph about Maggs possibly signing with the Cubs

Is this being reported anywhere else but here and XM radio? There seems to be alot of people on the board right now.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) He cannot leaver once the deal is up. He will not be a free agent yet. there's a third year mutual option as well... so it may make things easier

QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) Damn, me too. lol, i'm trying to fight it! Would be a great signing though!

I second "The Village" but "American Splendor" is a fantastic movie... one of the better movies I've seen in a long time

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 08:21 PM) How is this? Burke signed a minor league deal with the White Sox.... from ESPN 1000

QUOTE(shakes @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) Why is Shingo so shaky? I realize he has to prove he isn't a one year wonder, but I don't think it's a real cause for concern unless he actually starts blowing games. also Hendry hasn't solidified their closer position so they have to make sure their employee isn't held in a bad light by pointing out other teams have that trouble

Hot Stove baseball talk from 7-10 PM on ESPN 1000
SoxFan562004 replied to santo=dorf's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Easily the funniest/saddest moment of the night was when some douche bag Cubs fan called with some smug voice and asked how CP (As he put it, meaning Corey Patterson) and Beltran would have split time if Beltran would have signed with the Cubs.... he seriously asked that and seriously wanted an answer... and the scary thing is Bruce and Carmen didn't laugh at him.... ...and in Bruce's defense... he did say Sox and Iguchi are millions apart still, but he said KW has pulled suprises around Soxfest before, so he wouldn't be suprised if it happened tomorrow, in fact he said if it's going to happen at all, it will probably happen tomorrow... to me he portrayed it like he was just guessing -
Fantasy Baseball question
SoxFan562004 replied to AnthraxFan93's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
always nice to nail down one of the stud SS's, but with A-Rod no longer eligible it's a bigger crap shoot. Tejada isn't horrible... I always tend to stay away from pitchers that high (I would rather have 5-7 games a week than maybe 2). Although I had RJ one year when he was unreal and it helped... but I was in a points league, not a rotoleague. I've always had good luck with middle of the rotation starters, so I've never really relied on the "marquee" pitchers. I would suggest not going OF with it, because I've found there's a ton of OF value in the mid to late rounds. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 06:24 PM) I kind of got a dilemma and wondering if I there is anything I can do. Anyways my friend and I were originally going to go saturday and sunday so we got the whole ticket package but we only have our room for saturday night, anyways we now want to go Friday too but the problem is they won't let us get our tickets until we check in but that's not until saturday. We're trying to argue with them but I'm not sure if that's going to work, anyone got any ideas?? Try and ask them nicely to accomodate you. When dealing with customer service people they are only going to go the extra mile if you show you appreciate it

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 05:58 PM) I wish I was that handsome!!

I read the article... that was possibly the worst decision I've heard someone making in a long time. I have been in shows where I've had to wear Nazi uniforms, and I hate that pictures exist of them.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) I don't want to diminish anything the Bulls did last night, cuz they've finally been winning games, but I heard that was like the fifth time this year Philly's lost by 30 or more. I don't know if that means they're that bad, or maybe they just give up when they're down a bunch, but to lose that many BY that many is just awful. Ben Gordon had a pretty good game in that 4th quarter, huh....wow. Right, but since Jordan left the Bulls have been losing every type of game against every type of opponent... was this a game a mediocre/good team is supposed to win, yes... but the Bulls haven't been winning these games the last few years...
-
Great to see the Bulls playing so well... next hurdle will be the rookies "hitting the wall" hopefully they'll hit it at a different time and the others can pick up the slack...
-
I still want to see KW add a veteran INF... didn't have to be Cora, but hope he can pull something out (even though he would be a rookie, I think Iguchi can fill this hole). But it doesn't have to be flashy, I would have accepted a player the level of the Ex-Cub Alex Gonzalez (I know he's with TB now, but an example). I want to see a competent backup... don't want to rely on Valdez
