  1. I've wondered about MB's health for the last two seasons and he's been OK, so until something pops, I'm going to assume he's OK. There's certain pitchers who can go many years without serious arm problems, ie Clemens, Maddux, etc... not saying they haven't had injuries, but they have piled innings up over long careers. Some people are just "freaks" and don't get hurt. Also, I've read that Mark's off day throwing sessions are not very intense like other pitchers...
  2. This sounds positive... I hope this happens soon because the Sox need to add something in the IF
  3. If it makes anyone feel better, I believe #4 on his list was the Cubs!!
  4. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) Was the coverage for Soxfest as good as for the cub convention. This is totally sour grapes but the Mark Buerhle White Sox Christmas hand out was hardly covered but now we get the daily cub good deeds for the next three days. There has to be a contingency of reports awaiting the landing and arrival of Santo and the new television announcers arrival as well. I now I let this piss me off way to much but it does. There will be a Mariotti article talking about the good things this team has to offer (i.e. Nomar, how they don't let their players go to arbitration, etc,) then of course a negative one about Sosa, with this being the reason they couldn't sign anyone. The coverage for SoxFest was really good, there were a lot of local stories and interviews
  5. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) I am a huge Sox fan and I wouldn't brag about having Hannah Storm on my side. Watching these local TV stations cover Cub events is sickening. I would rather watch that old Geezer Sam Sianis f*** his goat than hear him talk about the curse or his horrible cheeseburgers on more time. Yeah, but I'm sure if the Sox make it deep into the playoffs you will see many of the same celebs gooning around at the Cell... for most it's about publicity...
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 05:21 PM) Does anyone know if Maggs had additional insurance coverage beyond what would protect his contract? It would seem he would have some policy, lie some college players have had that return for that last season. From what I understand, and with Leinart (sp?) deciding to stay in school this has come up, the insurance only covers career ending injuries, they don't "make-up" lost earnings for time missed. This seems like a silly example, but it's one I know of. When Mr. Perfect from wrestling got hurt he collected on a Lloyd's of London insurance policy. But when he returned to the ring a few years later he had to negotiate a settlment with them to pay some of the money back, since it was for career ending injuries only... this is why Ravishing Rick Rude never wresteled before he died when he most likely could have
  7. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) Hendry is right on his assessment of Maggs. It's going to take more than a physical & a few workouts to judge whether he can still play any where near his career average. I'm now thinking he won't be signed before ST but will get an invite with his most likely suitor. He'll have to prove his worth in ST & from there he might get a few more offers. I still see an outside shot of either the Marlins and Orioles signing him with a few workouts if they lose out on Delgado
  8. Bernie Mac is a big White Sox fan... so much so that some of the lame Cub fans blame him for "cursing" them by singing the 7th inning stretch during one of the crucial NLCS games
  9. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) If they draft another running back when they are so desperately in need of a few recievers and O Linemen I will be seriously pissed. yeah, that sounds like an odd choice, but even Kiper says his mock drafts this early aren't very great... too much time and FA changes things
  10. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28893 link to the summary
  11. already on, and a summary on the page
  12. QUOTE(Scwible @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 05:13 AM) seems like damage control to the chicago area. I agree... if the Cubs are going to make a run at him, they have to start spinning some positive PR for him since it seems Sox fans took managements side with this one....
  13. Basically a lot of clearing the air between the 3. -Saying that they took jabs at each other, but they respect each other -Hawk says a lot of the shots at the Sox is a direct result of people's personal hatred for Reinsdorf -All 3 agree that they like the Sox moves in the offseason with the theory that the power line-up wasn't getting it done -Bernstein now majorly giving props to Hawk for being giving him a lot of knowledge about baseball over the years (He is/has been a Sox fan) -Hawk takes a jab at Mariotti... (that's like having Mariotti writing a good column about you) -Bring up Hawk's Billy Beane theory, and Hawk is looking forward to seeing what the A's do this year without all 3 aces -Hawk's problem with the "moneyball" theory is that Beane has a big ego, said he knew him for a long time and has changed -Doesn't like that in the book Beane said he "hoodwinked" other GM's, specifically KW -Says Beane is a "legend in his own mind" -that's about it, they wrap up with more clearing the air
  14. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) Hawk is a good man for going into this. B and B are ruthless in their jabs at Hawk. Yeah, but it's not the first time he's been on with them... they were really laying into him about the Billy Beane comments and he called in... Bernstein likes his announcing, basically saying how much he enjoys his "hawkisms" and how everyone ends up repeating them when golfing and hanging with friends... also how he taught his daughter to say "Yes" like him
  15. WSCR is playing some new interview clips with Dusty Baker. And of course he sounds like an idiot who will probably prevent the Cubs from winning anything... Some highlights... -Sosa will bat 4th or 5th because he has "earned" it and just had a down year -What happens in the locker room should stay in the locker room and he doesn't like "snitches" who tell people what happened -LaTroy Hawkins will probably get another shot to close because he "has experience" now and he has "learned the league" the man is 56 years old...
  16. Actually they just said he'll be on in 10 minutes, so about 10:20
  17. Ken "Hawk" Harrelson will be on with Boers and Bernstein at somepoint during their show, no time determined yet. This should be interesting, Boers and Hawk do not like each other at all, but Hawk has been on before, and their conversations are basically civil because Boers appreciates that they rip on him and he still comes on.
  18. At this point I wouldn't mind KW bringing in Larkin... I think they still need a backup IF
  19. The thing that sums up the ownership situation for me is this... we had a Sports Law Symposium at school... I go to DePaul Law. The White Sox general counsel was there, I asked him "what is the ownership situation" he said "Well I'm really one of the few people who can answer that correctly, but I need documents in front of me, there's a lot of people involved"
  20. I really like the moves KW made this off-season, especially with the pitching... but looking at that chart, he really needs to get some sort of IF... it doesn't have to be Iguchi, but something...
  21. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 11:07 PM) Didn't we offer 70 million over 5 years? yep, and ESPN radio said it was with LESS deferred money than Beltran ended up getting
  22. QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) I only know what I read and hear, but Maggs knee must be in a bad way. I can't beleve a player with his talent and history would'nt have been signed by now unless there is something seriously wrong. Last year I was so upset that The Sox would let such a great player go, and I really didn't believe KW when he said they wanted to resign him. Now as unfortunate as it is I think the Sox did the right thing. he won't sign until he has some form of workout... his one during the winter meetings was scrapped.... Ofman on the Score was reporting he couldn't jump yet... about a week ago I believe I heard he would have a workout in 2 weeks. So we will see if something happens next week. I guess some of the teams that got the medical records Boras gave them said there seemed to be some things missing and wasn't really complete
  23. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 06:05 PM) Is anyone else worried that he could be the next Tyoshi Shinjo or So Taguchi. Even Kaz Matsui has struggled. I don't think Shinjo or Taguchi had high expectations, Shinjo got a lot of press because he was in NY and he was flashy. However, Matsui was a dissapointment in his first year (although injuries didn't help)
  24. QUOTE(Beastly @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) My mom sent a complaint about this that they didn't advertise this for soxfest on the news (ABC 7) are you sure they didn't? I know it did get some local media attention, not sure which stations though
