  1. What's John Elway going to use to brush his enormous teeth?
  2. Anyone remember about 10 years ago when they cancelled school because it was so cold? I don't think there was any snow, but like -40 degrees with windchill. That was a sweet snow day because parents weren't on me to do anything since it was deathly cold out... but alas, I went to 2 private colleges (Elmhurst for under and DePaul for Law), so there were zero snow days.... classes went on on 9/11 too!!
  3. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) So what does the Shawn Green deal falling through do to the Loaiza to the Dodgers scenario? Is that nixed now too? Not sure what the Green deal being nixed does... I think the Dodgers would want to move him before adding any payroll, especially with Drew's contract now on the books. They may and try to deal him to one of the losers in the Beltran sweepstakes (he would be more attractive than Sosa since this is the last year of his deal and dodgers are willing to eat 8 of 16 million)
  4. QUOTE(quickman @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:57 PM) The score is reporting that the japanese players rep wants an extra million over two years. that came on the update about 10 minutes ago. They want an immendiate response because the shaun Green deal fell through. Therefore the AJ thing with the Dodgers is back on. Wow, there hasn't been anything positive on either fronts lately... Sox may not get either of these guys
  5. QUOTE(babybearhater @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) The Dodgers are negotiating with free agent Esteban Loaiza. They only plan to sign him if the Shawn Green trade goes through. The arrival of Loiaza would leave just one rotation spot for Edwin Jackson and Kazuhisa Ishii, assuming that Brad Penny is healthy. Jan. 6 - 11:42 am et Good location for E-lo, I've seen games at Dodgers Stadium and fly balls DIE there... it will give him a chance to start and put up good numbers
  6. Good read. It starts to get to show the point I've been thinking about lately, that's the idea that Fantasy sports have skewed the public's perception of stars. Look at the White Sox and Cubs line-ups lately as an example. On paper they have kicked some major ass, but last year neither made the playoffs. However a team like the Twins and the Marlins have had success while not having marquee "fantasy" players.
  7. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) Let me see if I follow here, Scott Boras is one of the premier agents among MLB players. Both he and Maggs know that Maggs 'can't even walk', have been lying about his surgery and medical status, plan to somehow rope a team into giving Maggs millions and millions of dollars, without an exam, only to see him limp out onto the filed in ST. Is that about right? Yeah, if he's truly hurt Boras will make it clear to teams that he's not playing until he's 100% healthy. or he could be healthier than they are leading on and Boras plans to have Maggs have a solid workout after Beltran is signed... then you will have losers of the Beltran sweepstakes (Cubs, Mets, or Astros, possibly the Dodgers too if they can dump Green) bidding for his one year long-term contract push season
  8. Handwritten? Boy it sounds like he couldn't even get a lawyer to take this case!! and that's saying something!!! (no offense meant, I should be one in November if the Bar exam goes well)
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) Name an amount and I'll bet you.. double back... that he doesn't. I guess I agree with Steff... but I can't make any solid guess since as of mid-December Maggs couldn't jump. I don't see him being ready to play until May/June at the earliest
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 09:05 AM) So far Mike Holmgren and Jim Fassel are the 2 names that most come to mind, since John York wants an exprienced coach. There's early rumblings about Pete Carrol, but I think that's just early media speculation, it would cost 49'ers at least 4 million a year, probably more...
  11. QUOTE(C_LEE45 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:14 PM) Grudz signs with Cardinals(670 Am) With the Cardinals signing all the old mediocre Chicago middle infielders, the Sox might have to search for a new third base coach!!
  12. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) And Jay's used to be called Jap's until WWII (it was the abbreviation for the family's last name). Sorry, had to get that useless bit of information out. Were you watching the same "Unwrapped" hosted by Mark Somers that I was?
  13. The Cubs are going to use Maggs as a PR tool against the Sox. The Sox are in the process of a major overhaul of their team, and so far the Cubs have failed at 3 of their major offseason issues; 1. Dump Sosa 2. Get a top of the order hitter to help generate runs in close games 3. Get a closer When/if the Cubs sign Maggs they are going to trot him out for a press conference to have him take shots at the Sox, and then let the local media rip the Sox for letting him get away. (never mentioning the impossible position the Sox were put in by the arbitration system and Boras not releasing medical reports). It will be all sunshine and beer on the northside while the wicked stepsisters lurk on the southside...
  14. QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:04 PM) So, their outfield would be a gimp, an underacheiver and Corky the Chimp Boy. have fun with that northsiders. I think any talk of Ordonez and discount probably went out the window with Boras as his agent.... And wasn't Clement going to give the Sox a similar deal??? It's a negotiation ploy Also, Maggs really needs to have some form of workout before any team should think about including him in their plans
  15. QUOTE(CubKilla @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) Cheap is how this Organization works and how it will always work as long as JR and Co. are running things. I guess the White Sox never heard of going out and actually getting the player they want. Everything has to be a negotiation. How many players have the Sox made offers to and not got do to their negotiation tactics? Good point. I'm sure the Mets don't have 100 million dollars laying around the next 6 years, but they've targated Beltran as a player they want and they think they can get better with him. Not that Iguchi and AJ are anywhere near Beltran level players, but if the White Sox think they can make them a better team, then take a risk and give them the extra money.
  16. I think I would go crazy if we lose both of these guys over this amount of money.... I'm just praying that both of these guys don't have any other serious interest from other teams and KW is just trying to get the best deal...
  17. ilovebacon.com has a bunch of these things updated daily
  18. Was he the OC when Erik Kramer broke all the franchise records? I don't think that was Crowton (SP? I mean the former BYU coach)...
  19. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) Let's see .... Cubs, Astros, Mets and Yankees. That's 4 teams and there is supposed to be 5. Kenny Williams flying under the radar again? Tigers
  20. QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 02:22 AM) I understand this is the offseason and a great time to speculate, but you guys should forget about this Polanco talk. One, he's too expensive to fit into the White Sox equation. Two, he has his deal with the Phillies. Remember, they are going for it too and it doesn't make sense for them to dump him for two marginal players. Polanco is a proven guy, and it stands to reason if they do trade him they'll want proven talent in return. Anything can happen but the odds of this are very likely close to zero. A more logical scenario is exactly what's unfolding for the White Sox ... chasing Iguchi, and chasing Pierzynski. Just a hunch on my part but I think you'll see two outside additions to the White Sox infield. Yeah, I've been thinking about what the end Sox roster will be. I think Sox will only make one more move... I think it will be either Iguchi or Cairo... just being pesemistic though!!! I would love AJ and Iguchi, I just don't get a good feeling in the AJ dealings...
  21. I know I saw on ESPN Sportscenter around the 5 o'clock hour (between shoveling sessions) that the Mets offerred 6 years 100 million but I still like the Cubs chances because they have ivy on their walls and the Mets don't!!
  22. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) Alright, who's going? I'm headed out to my lake house today to hit the slopes at the mighty Wilmont Mountain. Do we have any die-hard skiiers in the house? This is trip #1 of the season for me, so I can't wait. Ye-ha! not a huge boarder, go once or twice a year, but I am taking my yearly trip to the Copper Mountain/Frisco area in Colorado in February... Love it!! A group of about 10 of us get a huge house and have a great time....
  23. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) According to this weeks Sports Weekly, the Sox offer to AJ was a 1 yr, $2 mill deal. If no one else has made a similar offer, fine. But he's worth at least $2.75, $3 mill a yr. I think Sports Weekly is a good magazine, but a lot of the info is usually a week or two old... WSCR said the Sox are still talking to AJ's agent... That might have been their opening offer. KW likes option years, so I wouldn't be suprised if the Sox nab either one of these two players, option years are involved. (FWIW, I think option years are a great way to go)
  24. Sorry if this has been posted, but since I last heard WSCR just quoting the NY Post article they are now saying the Sox are saying they are still talking to Iguchi's agent, AJ's as well
  25. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) stupid cubs, mets better get him what offer what i rather have 5yr 75 or ?yr 100?something definitely mets offer Yeah, and the Astros offer is atleast 6 years 84 million
