  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:05 AM) If it's relocation, Las Vegas probably makes the most sense for them. You could just have a 4 team AL East and a 5 team AL West, instead of a 5 team AL East and a 4 team AL West. Yeah, Vegas is a weird thing. I think the NBA having their all-star game there may open some doors, but I know all the major sports are scared s***less of having a team in Vegas. I think Portland also may be in the running if a team moves
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) If the f***ing cubs pick up Soriano and Nomar comes back, all we are going to hear from gay ass Bruce Levine is that they are now favorites to win the WC and the WS. LOL, it wouldn't be just Levine, everyone would be spankin' it over the Cubs, except that they still wouldn't have any middle relief, and Soriano does nothing to help them create more runs. At this point it just seems the Cubs make moves with big names to satisfy casual fans (I know that's not the truth, but it seems like that). However, ESPN 1000 just said that Soriano isn't interested in playing the outfield, and it wouldn't be a Hendry deal where he could just give midlevel prospects, it seems the Rangers would want high prospects.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 06:37 AM) I hear the pig from which the ham came from was injected with some form of anabolic steroid. It's a shame that some people actually want it. There. Now this thread officially has everything. Haven't read through the whole thing.... Does it have anybody putting down Timo???
  4. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) the question is why would they want Hideo Nomo, who they picked up off waivers. They need starting pitching really bad. Wang is still hurt, Brown is on the DL again, Leiter is a "stop the bleeding" move. Is Chacon awesome? No, but he's OK, and will probably eat some innings, and who knows, maybe he needed a trade to shoot his career back up. I do agree with you on the Nomo thing, but I guess it's the "throw it against the wall and see what sticks theory" I mean past Mussina and RJ, their starting pitching is really bad right now. Ahhhh... reminds me of the Sox 5th starter debacle of the last few years
  5. Stark was on ESPN about this and basically repeated what some here have said, that his contract is too crazy and his impact on the Red Sox too big to trade during the season. Maybe in the offseason to the Mets
  6. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) On ESPN and such, they probably just said 3, assuming everyone lived on the East Coast or knew exactly what they meant. You know, no other part of the country matters, right? Exactly, and it seems to be getting worse lately, I swear to god, the last few days if Larry Brown sneezed there was a special report.
  7. I haven't heard much about Houston. I think they'll pull a major trade off, their three starters are off the charts right now, and with another bat that is a scary team. With Bagwell hurt, a 1b would be perfect. If KC wants to trade Sweeney or Colorado wants to trade Helton, Houston should be all over that... but more realisticly, someone like Darrly Ward would be an upgrade
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) I'm not trying to attack you and I apologize if it seemed that way but in his post he clearly wasn't saying the sox got fleeced and yes it probably was poor choice of words but still....people just need to read the whole post before attacking that guy. That is all I'm saying. Cool man, I probably freaked out a little bit, I took the Bar Exam the last two days, and I'm trying to recover my sanity!! Also, I got in an argument with a Cubs fan last night about this exact trade, and he was saying how the Sox got ripped off... so just letting off a little steam and being edgy!
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) Reading comprehension is a skill you need to learn. OK, I hate doing things like this, but I have 2 f***ing degrees, one of them is a J.D., so I'm pretty sure my skill at reading comprehension is OK. Hey, I like this board, and everyone is normally real cool, I just didn't appreciate being attacked for what I posted
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) That's not it. The guy didn't say the Sox got fleeced, read his whole post again. As a Brewer fan he feels that his team make a great trade, they had no use for Pods and Viz was a throw in. They needed some righthanded power and Carlos provided that perfectly. From a Brewer fan standpoint he feels that his team got the better of the deal but he understands why a Sox fan would feel his team got the better of the deal. Fleeced may have been a poor choice of words, you should try comprehending what he says. Don't bust out that "I'm not allowed to an opinon" s***, I'm not saying you can't have an opinion I'm saying you didn't fully comprehend what he meant with his post. Yeah, I got it, but when you post this :banghead i have no idea what point you're trying to make, so it gives me very little to respond to. Also, I have no problems with reading comprehension, but thanks for your advice.
  11. oh, I read it, if you mean that the guy said he was looking at it from a Brewers fan point of view, but there is people out there who think the Sox got "fleeced" in the deal. I'm commenting on that.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) :banghead :banghead Please tell me what you don't like about what I said? I'm not allowed to have an opinion?
  13. QUOTE(cragi @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) Brewer fan here to give my take on the overbay rumors. First off, as a brewer fan I believe the Brewers fleeced the Sox to get Lee, as they were desperate both to unload Podz and were equally desperate to acquire power. But if I can just as easily see how a Sox fan would think they fleeced the Brewers. An amazing result for both teams indeed. There's no way the Sox got "fleeced," they're 30 games over .500, have a 11 1/2 game lead, and one of the main reasons is Pods. This is the "fantasy" effect on baseball. Just look at the players individual numbers and judge them on those alone
  14. QUOTE(palesox38 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) It was reported on ESPN 1000 that Shingo cleared waivers and was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte. Wow, with some of the bullpen issues some of the contenders are having, I can't believe noone took a risk,
  15. QUOTE(shakes @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) I know Rogers didn't say much, but not much would've satisfied this board. Including myself. Outside of what we have already heard, it sounds like there isn't any new information out there. Yeah, it seems like if there is going to be any deals it will be last minute for all teams. This might be a slow year as well, it's not a huge free agent year, so not many people in the last year of the contracts, and those guys are the ones that usually get moved. Knowing KW he'll do something, even if it's a minor bullpen move.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:24 PM) No stats?
  17. QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) 3 solo HR's in the first! Nunez, Edmonds, and Mabry, and not Grudz with a double. Interesting, this could be a big week for the Cubs, if Wood has to go on DL and they fall further behind in wild card, they may be sellers next weekend They obviously wouldn't sell Lee, Prior, Ramirez and a few others, but I imagine Burnitz, Dempster, Perez, Walker, Blanco would have some value as extra pieces to a contending team It would be interesting to see if they make Maddux available, I know his contract was really back loaded so next years $$ are huge for him, Cubs might want to dump that
  18. If Schmidt or Vizquel move IMO, that means Bonds is done for the year and maybe more
  19. It seems like trader Kenny is at it again!! I imagine the White Sox are going to look different by Tuesday than they do today. I like KW's aggressiveness... if he swings a move in 24 hours, then he's in on the trading early and is going to make Yankees, Red Sox, A's, Angels, Twins react to him
  20. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) I think the red sox are concentratin more on J.C Romero because when Schilling is ready they'll probably put him in the rotaion and they can have J.C in the bullpen. Yeah, I think Red Sox definitely need to improve both their pen and starters, and it would be easier to slide schilling into the rotation and add an arm then add a starter and hope Schilling succeeds in the closers role.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) Best of luck with the Bar exam on Tuesday, I know from having friends take it that it'll be a great relief when it's over. Wishing you the best. Thanks! Yeah, Wednesday night at about 5:00 p.m. my liver is going to get punished!! It's a weird ordeal to go through, and can't wait for it to be over!
  22. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) as long as that LH void aint kevin walker im in Ditto
  23. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) Excellent posts made by you in both threads this morning. Excellent. Thanks! I know I have been one of the posters that have been getting a little slag for some negative posts lately. It's just that I think this team is very good, and a move or two can push them over the top, and the Boston series has been frustrating. (also I'm taking the Bar on Tuesday, so I'm also going insane) But I love Soxtalk.com, the banter about the haters and lovers the last two days has been fun!
  24. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) Not for $7,500,000 or even half of that, and then of course he's under contract for another season. If anything, this lineup needs a good lefty hitter, Lowell doesn't give you that. It's possible with the attendance upswing and the new TV deal that the Sox are finally in a position to be a team that can have a bad contract or two on it and still be OK. If Marlins take 1/2 of the contract it's only 3.75, which isn't horrible, hell 5 wouldn't be bad at this point.
  25. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) I think that is what a lot of folks are hinging on. (present company included) 100% agree, you can NOT make this deal, say it improves your club and then call Kevin Walker up, he f***ing sucks
