Could Mark Prior possibly need TJS:
SoxFan562004 replied to CSF's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
The problem with what Hendrie says is the Cubs have been giving misleading info about this situation the whole time. They initially said he'd be throwing again in a week, that was about 5 weeks ago. I heard a clip of Hendrie on ESPN radio this morning and now he's saying they're not putting a time-line on his return. This is a new stance from him and the organization which was really pushing the mid-may window. -
Bruce Levine was on the pregame today and Wills asked him about the Maggs contract situation (mentioning the Southtown article). Levine said the sides have been talking for awhile now. Basically Maggs wants 5 years at 15m per, Sox want to give him 3 years. Levine says that if Sox offer 4 years at 13-14m per year he will sign Levine said that Maggs is resigned to the fact that he's not going to get as much as he is getting this year (14m) and will sign for less... not for 10m a year though.
-
Reinsdorf also said that there's a real chance of Maggs staying. He said something about how "it takes 2 parties to negotiate" and basically said last year Maggs wasn't interested in talking. Now it seems like they are talking.

I don't think the Sox are in a position where they can be trading proven bull-pen guys. If Wunsch throws well in AAA I would feel a lot better with him in the pen on the South Side... The bull-pen now makes me a little itchy!

A touch of Comiskey coming to the Cell
SoxFan562004 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would lke the Sox to add a couple of bigger monuments to some of their greats. I think it looks great when other teams do it. Maybe 1 or 2 from the 59 team, something with Pudge and then add something for Frank when he retires -
Garland hadn't pitched in a game situation in 12 days I believe. That may explain the wildness and why Ozzie let him pitch so long. I love it, 4 quality starts in 4 games against two very good offenses!

I think it's a positive article.... We don't know who was asking Maggs the questions that prompted those answers, I think it was probably a NY writer. I would be more concerned if Maggs was saying those things unprompted. This is also a turn in Maggs attitude about re-signing. Last year he basically said he is going to test free agency, but now he seems open to re-signing. Also JR was on WSCR yesterday (I think with North) and said that they are talking with his people and it's still a real possibility that Maggs will sign an extension. He basically said that last year Maggs wasn't willing to talk, but now he is. I think Maggs realizes that there's no guarantee he's going to get 14-15m in free agency.

I agree, I wouldn't pencil in Sho for the Cy Young, but I thought after a early inning struggles he really settled down and pitched A LOT better than I thought he would. If he is going to pitch like this all year, it would be FANTASTIC!! (Also, 3 games and 3 quality starts, good trend to build on... .as long as this opening road trip isn't a complete disaster, ie 1-5 or 2-4 the Sox should be happy, even if it's 3-3)

They had a before and after shot of Damon on the game tonight, and his current picture makes him look like Charles Manson, he even had a crazy look in his eye. Although this may just be jealousy since I'm 1/2 Irish any beard I attempt to grow comes in patchy and red!

I thought it was funny!!

The fact that Buffone wasn't in on it makes it hysterical. I would have loved to hear his reaction (Ol' Uncle Fuzzy is a little slow on the uptake)

Especially if Loiza has a sore neck!!

Nothing on MLB or whitesox.com Are they reporting this in their updates, or is it just North?
-
Unless the we hear something about Reds moving Casey, it's not true... They already have a glut of 1b/of's Did North just announce it or did Offman announce it at the update. If Offman announced it during an update, it may be true, but if it is just North, then no

Great article. Even though the Sox didn't bring in any outside players, I really liked the extensions for MB, Lee, and Marte. They're all decent extenstions, they avoid the ugliness of arbitration, and they don't criple the Sox payroll like the PK extension. I really enjoy watching Marte pitch, he has some filthy movement and location. When he locates that backdoor pitch to righties it's basically unhittable. I heard Bruce Levine in the off-season say that a lot of teams were calling about Marte for a trade and KW wouldn't even listen. So KW knows his value.

Besides the Sox who is your favorite MLB team
SoxFan562004 replied to WSoxShuf's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Dodgers are my other favorite team. When I was growing up I had an Aunt who lived in LA. This was in the Mid to late 80's when they had good teams (and won it all in 88). So I would go to games, just became a fan -
MORE physical trouble for Prior
SoxFan562004 replied to KipWellsFan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Yeah, the book on him was that he had great mechanics, but now the second guessers are coming out talking about how his overhead motion is the worst possible motion. Prior had a weird career track. I think he was one of those high school kids who was 100% devoted to baseball, meaning he had a private coach and everything. Then he went to his 1st college, wasn't very good and then transferred to USC where he dominated and became the phenom. I'm just wondering if between colleges he changed his mechanics or put on extra muscle which gave him an incredible boost, but now is harming his body -
Hey according to Stone on Sunday the Cubs can "absorb" the loss of Prior because of their depth at starting pitching. He said they would be more worried if they lost Lee at 1b or Barrett at C.... Yes, he actually said this.... Carlos Maldonado? Is that Candy's son??

MORE physical trouble for Prior
SoxFan562004 replied to KipWellsFan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Mid-May would probably be optomistic (don't forget, Levine is a Cubs fan). I think any guess would be hard though because there's no timetable of when he is going to start throwing again. All they are saying is he will throw when his achilles stops hurting. Not sure what that means since it has bothered him since September. Another thing, WSCR was reporting he came into Chicago yesterday for another MRI on his leg AND right elbow (this is the 2nd on elbow). They found nothing new, but they say his elbow has been bothering him too. The thing that the Cubs aren't confronting is that the achilles problem is said to stem from his giant calfs, which give him his power. They're not saying if he is going to do something to reduce the size of his calfs or not. But I think that would take away some velocity. Being as objective as I can (I am a Sox fan) this is a real ugly situation, especially since the Cubs are not saying anything about it and getting further MRI's. -
Hopefully a sign of good things to come for Shingo!!! Good outing by MB for the last one of the spring. I have to say Willie has made me do a complete 180 the last few weeks, I think he can be huge at the top of the line-up. the 13-13 record is a solid one, considering all the games they were winning early on and minor leaguers lost the leads
-
Good to see MB throw well today (after the 2nd inning homer) it is his last start before the regular season

This is interesting because Gammons was on Dan Patrick today, and Patrick asked about Griffey being traded. Basically Gammons said (this was before the injury) that there are teams interested, but they want to wait about 40-50 games to see if he can stay healthy. He then talked about how the White Sox will probably be one of the teams interested in Griffey. it was not just in passing with a list of other teams, he actully spent a minute on how the Sox may be interested.
-
Moose is going to get a ton of wins with that line-up, even if his ERA is around 4.50 (which would be a terrible year for him). He'll also K a lot more and pitch deeper into games, giving him more chances opportunities for wins. DO THIS TRADE IMMEDIATELY!!!

If you want some new Cub laughs just sit back and listen to the reaction about Prior. These MFers are still penning the Cubs in for the World Series and Prior hasn't thrown a pitch off a mound in about 5 months, and there's no timetable set for rehab!! Steve "Stoned" on the Cubs game today said something along the lines of "The Cubs can absorb the loss of Mark Prior because the Cubs strength is in starting pitching. They would be more concerened if they lost Barrett at catcher or Lee at first base since there's not as much depth there." That's not an EXACT quote, but it is the gist of what he said. Then he went on to say "forget the injury for a second, if he starts rehab tomorrow he'll be ready to pitch in 3-4 weeks." The whole thing was odd today, it seemed like Stoned and Chip were under some sort of Tribune gag order about the Prior injury. Chip must have repeated 8-10 times "This flare up is not as bad as the previous one". Also, when the Cub's Trib reporter was up there and asked if Stoned or Chip heard anything on Prior there was a few seconds of uncomfortable silence then Chip said the above quote for the 3rd time and Stoned rambled on about how losing Billy Wagner really hurt the Astros.... It was one of the oddest conversations I've heard in awhile. I also just went to Chicagosports.com and saw that Rogers wrote an article which says pretty much what Stone was preaching....hmmmm interesting
