So Now That Pettitte Is Officially Done...
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 12:17 PM) Brett Gardner? Ivan Nova? Joba Chamberlain? Jesus Montero? Manuel Banuelos? Maybe the Sox (I'm trying to quit saying WE, since it's so annoying to some) would be able to get some of those guys. All (except for Joba) could be huge for the future. eh, COULD be (wait 'til next year? blah), that is the major problem, if the Sox are going to trade E-Jax, Danks or Floyd they need at least one piece of major league talent back. They've picked their direction, especially with a question at the 5th starter still for the Sox, can't make it a question at 4 and 5 for prospects. Also, there's obviously guys that prove this wrong, but I tend to take NYY prospects with a grain of salt. They get a ton of hype and I'm always a little leery they're overrated. Mentioned it in the MLB thread, but I would imagine the Cubs will try extremely hard to dump Zambrano on them now, it's their best shot to shed a good portion of that deal. Also, I imagine the NYY will attempt to get King Felix again. Also, on a more minor front, I wouldn't be surprised if Millwood inks there quickly now

Great call 420.... Good move IMO, low risk, high potential reward.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) Michael Kay (Yankees play-by-play guy) is reporting that Andy Pettitte will retire tommorrow. That's a huge, huge blow for the Yankees. Even with him, their rotation was a question mark, now its that much worse. yeah, even with him back they were going to have to count on him for 30 or so starts, now with out him, barring something major, they are extremely thin in that rotation. I bet you hear a lot of Zambrano to NYY talk heat up, it's basically the Cubs only shot at dumping a majority of that contract.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
piece of the roof at Wrigley was damaged during blizzard, if I had any photo shop skills I would do something with Ricketts and the poster from The Money Pit

Mark Kotsay
This makes a lot of sense to me and can be effective as a bench player on an NL team, good place for him to land, the Crew have a chance to be very good this year.

Official Squared Circle Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 06:58 PM) I was surprised how good Booker and Nash looked physicality wise. Both jacked up. I think I would of liked Del Rio winning more if he was in there more than 5 minutes. Should of had him in there at number 18 or so and stay in for like 30 minutes. According to Meltzer WWE was surprised about the reaction both got and might alter plans going ahead. Nash was really suppose to be a one or two time thing on camera and give him a roll behind the scenes but that might change, and Booker was going to come in with a manager type role, but again, with the reaction they may have him work more

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
QUOTE (TomPickle @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 06:08 PM) When Matt Clement was taken out of the game that was the loudest, "Hey, hey, hey...goodbye!" I had ever personally been in attendance for. I was there too, it was incredible!

sox payroll hike in conjunction with cubs "rebuild"?
I really don't think so, I think a lot has to do with JR being 74 and realizing he doesn't want to go through a rebuild.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 09:53 PM) Bulls can't hang with Top 3 in East. fully healthy I think they could. Also, they'll add some sort of veteran 2 guard, just depends how big of an upgrade they get there. They're doing all of this recently with Kurt Thomas playing a major role, Noah is obviously an upgrade, especially on D. Throw in an upgrade at 2 guard and the team as is playing more games together and they can play with the top 3...

White Sox have interest in Freddy Garcia
SI.com has a story with Freddy favoring the NYY, I imagine the state of their starting staff with or without Pettite they'll get him.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) The June 24-26th series between the Mariners & Marlins, scheduled to be played in Miami will be moved to Seattle instead. The Marlins will be the home team and no DH will be used. Reason??? U2 is playing at Sun Life Stadium June 29th and needs the time to set up. Baseball still means little in the state of Florida. wow, they'll get mileage out of the new stadium for a short term, but it will likely go back to status quo quickly.

Bartolo Colon signs with Yankees
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 07:35 PM) I know what you meant. Honestly, other than Kershaw and a healthy Strasburg [i'm so bummed we won't get to see him this year], there's not a pitcher in the NL 25 and under that I would take over Gallardo. well, if you're in the NW burbs the Milwaukee trip is really easy!

Bartolo Colon signs with Yankees
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 04:22 PM) It's just my opinion, but Gallardo could still very well be that team's ace, at the very least their number 2.. His stuff is beyond electric. I watched all 3 starts of his starts vs the Cubs last year and I thought immediately that this guy could challenge for a CY in the very near future. true, he's an awesome pitcher... I should have phrased it differently, those three starters are extremely impressive.

Bartolo Colon signs with Yankees
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 03:52 PM) Wow, that is pretty bad. IMO: 1. Jays 2. Brewcrew 3. Phillies 4. White Sox 5. Red Sox (don't like the Crawford deal) 6. Cubs --- 30. Texas Rangers, for losing Cliff Lee following a franchise-defining season and then failing to seriously upgrade the starting staff like your list, I would just swap Brewers and Jays, just because I am more of an immediate payoff type and the fact that the Crew knew Prince is walking and went all in this year and made Gallardo their 3rd starter was damn impressive! Not to mention I think Saito was a nice under the radar signing.

White Sox have interest in Freddy Garcia
I would be OK with Freddy as #5, and in today's game, I don't see how having 6 starters is a problem. Hopefully everyone stays healthy, but you never know, and if everything works out and Freddy is pitching OK, I'm sure he would be an easy flip to an NL team.

Bartolo Colon signs with Yankees
I wonder if Jon Heyman is going crazy over this... he said Hal Steinbrener had a top 5 off-season because he overruled Cashman on Soriano and he handled the Jeter situation well... he might make him #1 now with this signing!! http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writ...tars/index.html Seriously, he's #3 and there's not one comment about them completely whiffing on every major FA they went after especially Red Sox snagging Crawford... guess he needs the NYY fans to up his hit count!!

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (Cali @ Jan 25, 2011 -> 07:54 PM) Jeter may move to the outfield in the next few season, where he will most likely continue to win gold gloves.... this is going to be a fun stretch between the NYY and Jeter. It's extremely obvious to most people, except ESPN, that there's no chance in hell the NYY can roll Jeter out there at SS for much longer, I think the offseason sniping between the two was just a preview of what's going to come.

Bears versus Packers game thread
Well I can honestly say this Cutler fiasco has certainly made me less of a Bears fan and probably less of a sports fan overall. It was simply disgusting how people reacted to it and just put into perspective how way too seriously people take sports, likely because they are lacking things in their lives... truly and utterly classless.

White Sox April/May ticket early sale
this is odd, wonder the strategy behind it.
-
White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
I wouldn't mind Sale as closer, but as others stated above, I think it's best with him to define a role and let him roll with it all year. However, if this is true I'm still confused on what they're doing with the 5th starter spot until Peavy comes back. It wouldn't make sense to go "all in" and then just hope Peavy is ready for the 5th starter.

MMA Thread
UFC is running another "Salute to the Troops" show tomorrow on Spike... Main event is Guillard vs. Dunham (was suppose to be K-Flo vs. Dunham but K got hurt). Should be an entertaining card, they run it on a military base and have active military make up a majority of the audience, so they really attempt to have match-ups that feature explosive stand-up fighters.

Jays trade Wells to Angels for Rivera/Napoli
OK, little update, looks like the Jays will be sending 5m in the deal, still a great deal for the Jays IMO

Jays trade Wells to Angels for Rivera/Napoli
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) That is an absolutely TON of money saved. yup, looks like zero money is exchanging hands, so 86 for Wells and about 11 for the two going, so 75m Angels are now on the hook for

Official 2010-11 NFL Thread
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) True. No one on their team can make a jump ball catch. That's what the Bears really need. Someone who can go up against another defender and you know he'll come down with it in the end zone. Everyone on the Bears is a throw it over the top type of guy. I know he was a complete non-factor in Minny and with Tennessee, but I still say Moss would have been worth the gamble for the Bears, but hey, they got to where they are with what they have, hopefully Sunday goes well!
