Rex should retire from NFL football.
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) LOL, he replied to that very same question in post 8 of this thread. Check it out, it will really make you laugh. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I saw that, but then he was trying to say Rex is just going to be the #1 going in to camp. Since Angelo didn't say Rex was starting the season at #1, Jeff George, I mean, Kyle Orton would be the #1 QB. :rolly

Rex should retire from NFL football.
Crazyman, can you please provide any evidence of Angelo naming Orton the starting quarterback like you claim?

Wal-Mart in the crosshairs
QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 22, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) Does Walmart pay below minimum wage? | | | | | | | | | | V ok then...so what's the problem again? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> From what I have seen, the problem is Wal-mart considering a "full-time" shift to be 28 hours a week, not 40, and their health care packages for their "full-time" employees are too expensive for someone working 28 hours a week. Then Wal-Mart encourages these people to go on welfare if they won't get Wal-Mart's medical package.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 01:11 PM) Hockey might be a joke, but it's more popular than the NBA. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Based on what? Last week both NBA games on ABC outdrew the NHL on NBC game by more than 2 to 1. http://www.top5s.com/tvsports.htm

I forgot how to write in it a long time ago, I have a hard time reading it, and for my signature I usually get smiles because it's one big scribble looking something close to my name.

Re-sign Contreras, trade Vazquez mid-season
QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) And I'm not really going case to case (Although its true that if you win the game, you aren't necessarily the better pitcher. You could very well be, but it's not absolute.), but more towards end of the season statistics. Francis had 14 wins, Clemens had 13. Since Francis had more wins, does that make him the better pitcher? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What is your point? I already said I don't use wins in a season to compare pitchers. So no, Francis was not the better pitcher last year because his ERA was higher, gave up more baserunners, and despite having more wins, played on a loser team in a lot of pressureless games. QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 10:22 PM) If you do go case to case, you need to take into account the quality of the offense they are facing. For example, Brandon McCarthy dominated both the Rangers in Texas and the Red Sox in Boston last year. If another pitcher were to have dominated the Twins (I use the Twins because they were last in the AL in runs last year), would it have been just as impressive a pitching job? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I look at that too. When I saw Cliff Lee finishing 4th in the Cy young, I couldn't stop laughing considering he did most of stat padding against the Royals. I would say Brandon's performance was more impressive than the guy who puts up the same line (or maybe a little bit better) against the Royals.

Rap Sucks
QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) You really dissapoint me.. Lack of any Musical Talent? Check. Check that again to make sure. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If it doesn't require any musical talent, why don't you get off your ass and become a multi-millionnaire by putting out rap records?

Re-sign Contreras, trade Vazquez mid-season
QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) It has nothing to do with your question, it has to do with your line of thinking on the value of wins. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Huh? So why bother quoting it? I'm not like Hawk Harrelson where I think wins are the be all, end all stats of a pitcher. QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) And they aren't that extreme. Look at Roger Clemens last year, 13-8 with a 1.87 ERA and 1.01 WHIP, while Jeff Francis went 14-12 with a 5.68 ERA and 1.62 WHIP, and before you say "Coors Field effect", he was worse on the road than at home. According to wins, Francis was the better pitcher. According to everything else, Clemens was. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry, a 5.68 ERA is not close to a 7.5 ERA, and a WHIP of 1.62 is not close to a WHIP of 2.00. Also, a 14-12 record is nowhere close to a record of 21-4. QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) And to answer your original question, there is nothing wrong with pitching at the same level of your opponent, as long as you get the win. But just because you get the win doesn't mean you are the better pitcher. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You already pretty much made my point of pitching to the level of your opponent. You point out Roger's awesome's numbers, yet you also mention the lack of run support. Don't you think if Roger got a few more runs during his outings his ERA and WHIP would increase? If he got a 6-0 lead in the 3rd inning, why should he try to strike everybody out and not allow a single base runner? Isn't that asking for a bit much? "But just because you get the win doesn't mean you are the better pitcher." Well I'm guessing that's not the case 95% of the time if you are judging games on a case to case basis. Two games I can think of where the losing pitcher pitched a better game than the winning pitcher was Freddy's one hit loss, and Garland's outing against Santana back in 2004.

Best performance of a pitcher
QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Feb 8, 2006 -> 04:36 PM) Another Garcia memory is his performance at Coors Field. He gives up the patented 3-run homer in the first inning to Hawpe and it looked like it would be a long evening. 22 batters later, it was the 9th inning. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hey! I mention it first! IIRC, the Colorado announcers were saying it was the most impressive pitching performance they have ever seen in Coors Field history including Nomo's no-no.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Quick interview. 9:30 and it's already over. Anything discussed which the papers didn't mention? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I missed the "F-16" quote, but he also said Bill Gates would "s*** his pants" if he was in Venezuela. Gumble also said that Guillen is known for picking fights with guys like Magglio (no) and Thomas.

Best performance of a pitcher
Freddy Garcia setting a record in Coors field by retiring 22 consecutive batters after giving up a 3-run homer in the first.

Re-sign Contreras, trade Vazquez mid-season
QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) Who is better, pitcher A who goes 21-4 with a 7.50 ERA and 2.00 WHIP or pitcher B who goes 10-7 with a 1.00 ERA and .90 WHIP? And yes, these are extremes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What does that have to do with my question? Yes they are extremes, but they are also very unlikey to happen.

Evoution taught in Amercia vs the World
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) Which is as it should be. Church and state - it seems pretty clear. Both entities have a lot to teach, but you cannot teach beliefs as knowledge and call it a public school. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Does the phrase "seperation of Church and State" ring a bell to you? If you're going to offer religious ed in public schools, you're going to have to offer ALL religions a course. It isn't fair to pick and choose which religions to teach or not teach in a public school. Evolution is not a "belief." It's a "scientific theory." The idea that the Earth revolves around the Sun is a "scientific theory" as well. It's also contradicted by the Bible.

Evoution taught in Amercia vs the World
QUOTE(WCSox @ Feb 4, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) IMO, the solution to this is for one to take religion and philosophy courses alongside biology. The student can make up his/her mind about the origin of mankind. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good luck trying to get those religious classes taught in a public school.

Re-sign Contreras, trade Vazquez mid-season
QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 2, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) Wins mean basically nothing when analyzing pitchers. Do you really think Contreras, or just about any other pitcher in the league, was better than Roger Clemens last year? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Do you think if a pitchers get 5 runs scored in the first inning, he should try to strike every batter outafter that? Or is it ok for him to give up a few runs? What's wrong with pitching at the level of your opponent as long as you get the win?

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 06:16 PM) I bought a 1980 navy blue road jersey with 72 on back with big butterfly collar from them, price was high but quality was A++ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> LMFAO! Fisk didn't join the Sox until 1981. M & N needs to work on their research because they also offer a Matt Stark Sox throwback jersey.

Red Sox trade for Coco Crisp
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) Very underrated trade that Boston made getting Loretta for Mirrabelli wasn't it (who ironically the Pads don't really need that much now since they have Mike Piazza). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Loretta had a large decline last season, and Mirabelli is the only one who could handle Wakefield. Of course now the rumor is San Diego might be moving Mirabelli to get David Whales.
