  1. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) Very underrated trade that Boston made getting Loretta for Mirrabelli wasn't it (who ironically the Pads don't really need that much now since they have Mike Piazza). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Loretta had a large decline last season, and Mirabelli is the only one who could handle Wakefield. Of course now the rumor is San Diego might be moving Mirabelli to get David Whales.
  2. "Let's see you do a better 'Turning Japanese' face."
  3. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 09:02 PM) You forget their biggest offseason pick up... Big Willie Style... Willie Harris... Face it the guy is a rapping, hip-hop, super pimp... I have a feeling by the end of May he will not only be their starting 2B but their leadoff hitter and everyone from ESPN will be slobbing all over him... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So Willie is going to overtake Mark Loretta, Alex Cora, and Tony Graffanino by the end of May?
  4. OK redandwhite, it's official Boston gets Coco, Riske, Bard and signs Agone II for $3 million giving up Edgar Renetria, $11 million, Mota, Shoppach, along with another $1 million. Is the Boston offseason still successful?
  5. Ahh, so that's where the shirt idea of the Spring 04 bar crawl came from. The name of the bars would be in between each of the steps.
  6. QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 01:48 AM) Add yourself to my sig! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Put me down for the Indians, but I don't think they'll win the WC. Here's how I responded to the article earlier. Nevermind that both the White Sox and Indians had better staff ERA's and the White Sox have arguably improve their pitching staff. Wasn't Silva the only member of that group that missed time last season? How many games back did the Twins finish behind the Sox last season again? No, he has to show he can hit, or at least make contact, against LHP before he can improve his overall numbers. ....and in 13 seasons he has hit over 20 homers a whopping 3 times (28 in 1997, 22 in 1999, and 22 in 2003.) He has also never drove in 100 RBI's in a season ( career high of 87 in 2003.) ...and who is he going to knock in consider Batista and Morneau can't get on base, and what's so impressive with 80 RBI's from a guy who is supposed to be a 5 tool player? Wasn't Punto a solid defensive second baseman? How exactly is Castillo going to "stimulate" the batting order? He's a slap hitter with a good OBP, but his speed is declining and can no longer steal bases like he used to. Clubhouse leader? The guy who messed around with Morneau (oh wait, that's was Justin's problem) or going on TV in June saying the Twins weren't going to catch the Sox? Torii is a great defensive CF, but he is very overrated with the bat. You know, it really says something about your crappy team when you are hoping that a guy "matches" his career batting average of a pathetic .251. Tony's career OBP is .298 and has a career SLG% of .458. That not high enough for a player who is known for hitting home runs (at least the writer thinks so.) His crappy OBP should fit in well with the rest of the Twins' lineup of Torii (career OBP of .321,) Morneau (.313,) Bartlett (.308,) not to mention Stewart coming off a .323 OBP season along with Loser Ford coming off a .338 OBP season.
  7. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:07 AM) I thought he only played 2 years in the majors? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Try 1 and 3/4. As for Shingo going to the swallows, well, he did suck.
  8. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 11:03 PM) Not all of his 179 AB's were terrible. But most of them were... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yet gwety's ( ) post implied ALL of his at bats were worthless. I recall Timo having two good at-bats last season. Memorial day walk off, and that homer off of Radke after Garland crapped his pants in Minnesota. He also put on a good BP show when I saw him in San Diego....that's about it from Timo in 2005.
  9. QUOTE(q\/\/3r+y @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 10:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So you weren't happy with him on memorial day?
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) I believe that poster was Kyle Orton. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "He might still go to Charlotte so he can be part of the team in September!!! Viz is worse!!!"
  11. If you can make money off of cover songs, can you make money off of your own custom mixes then?
  12. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 11:45 PM) Richie Sexson and Adrian Beltre, although Sexson played with the Indians in the beginning of his career and Beltre only had one really good season in the N.L. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's right, and let's stay in the AL West. Hey Anthrax, how's that $32 million contract for Orlando Cabrera working out? Here's another: Steve Finley.
  13. Renteria was a bust. Vlad didn't do too badly. Sheffield has been pretty good since returning to the AL after a lon NL stint. Sosa sucked badly, but that was due to his smaller frame. For some reason I can't think of too many big name NL hitters that have jump to the AL in the past couple years.
  14. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) psst, the title got changed <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So your original post makes no sense.
  15. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) Contreras won 13 games with a 5.50 ERA in 2004. Predicting him to win 15 games in 2005 wasn't really that big of a stretch. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Didn't Dick Allen already tell you that Contreras isn't your typical 5.50 ERA pitcher? Jose Contreras in 2004 would either go 7 IP and get the win, or go less than two innings and give up six runs inflating his ERA. It's not like the guy always gave up 5 runs and sometimes got more run support *cough Cliff Lee* than what he was giving up. Like I said, I predicted he would "easily" win 15 games next season and people thought I was nuts. Take a look at some of the predictions some posters have made for Javier Vazquez this upcoming season. Vazquez is a similar pitcher to Contreras in regards that he has some great, great outings, and then he has some outings that are so bad, they f*** up his numbers for a month. That is why right now, I will say "Javier Vazquez will win no less than 16 games for the Sox next season."
  16. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 07:50 PM) I also said in other posts IF Contreras duplicated what he did in the second half of 2005, I would say he's a top tier pitcher. But you seem to ignore that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :banghead I have already pointed it out to you TWICE that Contreras was more than a second half pitcher last season. Take a look at his April and May numbers.
  17. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) Defensively, one of the best, if not the best. Offensively, he's good enough to get by if the team he's on has offensive sources elsewhere. If he can put up his 2004 numbers, or anywhere in between his 2004 and 2005 numbers (~.800-.850 OPS), he would be one of the better overall CF's in the league. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well that settles it. I have no idea what method you use to evaluate players. Can we play the "in between years" game with Contreras too? Forget it, it'll be complete waste of our time. I remember last offseason sticking up for Contreras saying he would "easily" win 15 games and could understand why some posters were skeptical. In 2005, he had two rough months out of seven, saved our team down the stretch, and was our #1 starter throughout the playoffs, and a poster still doesn't believe in him. I really don't get it.
  18. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) He also has a career 4.28 ERA (league average ERA of 4.53 during that time) and 1.31 WHIP, which doesn't look like one of the best pitchers in the league to me. And the reason I find a lot wrong with him is because there is a lot wrong with him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How would you rank Aaron Rowand amongst MLB outfielders?
  19. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) Jose Contreras Post All-Star Break: I also don't think Contreras is as good as everyone here thinks. He's had 1 good season (2003 + the second half of 2005), and has been average at best the rest of the time. Contreras is getting older (probably ~40), and who knows how long he can last with the workload he had in Cuba. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm getting sick and tired of reading people saying Joe only had one good half in 2005. Look at his splits. He had a rough June and July. 5/7 (yes I'm including the postseason) of the year he was a great pitcher.
  20. QUOTE(Felix @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) You spelled offical wrong. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=offical :rolly
  21. Does any Big Ten team at home lose? (except for the North Dakota stats game? lol)
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) Another reason RBI totals are neglected is because they are affected by position in a batting order. For example, if Dye had been our #3 hitter all of last season instead of batting mostly sixth he would have finished with more than 86 RBI's. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Last time I checked the Reds didn't have problems getting guys on base. If Dunn or Thome was in the Sox lineup, I have to think Thome would get more RBI's because of his much higher BA.
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) Right now if you were the White Sox all things being equal, would you rather have Adam Dunn or Jim Thome? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thome. Higher BA's with similar OPS's results in more RBI's. This is why statheads have to neglect RBI's because they are directly related to batting averages. What's the ratio of runs being knocked in on hits, sac flies, and suicide squeezes to runs being knocked in on HBP or BB's. I'm guesing 1,000+ : 1
  24. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) If Thome was the kind of guy to fire back, an easy answer for that comment would be: "I've done ONE thing on the baseball field that Frank Thomas hasn't - I have PLAYED in a World Series." <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  25. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) what if that wasn't the case? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who gives a s***? Read the poll question again. I don't consider anyone a Sox fan if they are rooting against the team. It's similar to when Anthrax was rooting against the Sox because he thought KW would get fired. :headshake
