  1. I haven't seen much out there on Chris Young. He's a guy who's coming off 3 fairly injury-riddled seasons but I'd rather see 1-2 million thrown his way than 3-4 Freddie's way 10 times out of 10. He's obviously not a guy who's going to sign early but I hope he's on KW's radar. This is of course assuming you've moved Floyd or Danks in a deal.
  2. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) no it barely grazed him OK thanks
  3. I missed the game but i sure like the result! Was the Hudson HBP intentional?
  4. Some very interesting discussion in this thread regarding value of players. There's oftentimes a difference between true value and perceived value, a difference which can only be truly evaluated in retrospect. Sometimes KW seems to ignore an "objective" view of perceived value (I know, that doesn't make sense) in trades. For instance Jackson has pitched like ass this year... Oh wait I take that back, he threw a no hitter. His perceived value was low. Now, Coop may have seen something in his delivery he thought he could fix, but that's internal knowledge that shouldn't affect his value to the league. It's like KW paid for Jackson as if he was already a Coop-repaired commodity. You know AZ was dying to shed the salary commitment for next year... it just sucks that KW paid so high a price. Same goes for trade targets in the past: trading for Thome coming off a bad injury with a huge contract, trading the studly arb-eligible BMac for an unknown commodity in Danksy, taking on the enormous contract of injury-riddled Peavy for a couple of highly-regarded young players. The fact that many players he's traded haven't panned out is irrelevant, it just means that their value has decreased from where it was when he made the trades. He may do this knowingly; perhaps his MO is to keep trade partners happy and willing to trade with him in the future. The anti-Mike Rizzo.

I started this back up and I'm through the first phase now. It's good to be back on it after screwing it up the first time (scheduling, laziness). I had forgotten how much I hate Dom in plyo and Wes in kenpo. Dom because of his lazy form but, hey, he jumps high so he's supposed to be a bad ass; and Wes because of his stupid karate hands and how Tony goes out of his way to cup his balls every chance he gets.
  6. Great game! My last of the year but I ended the season at 6-0. I also walked past KW on the concourse and punched his arm (not too hard). At first I kinda got a wtf expression followed shortly by a smile and a nod.
  7. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 5, 2010 -> 08:21 PM) Yeah, there is no way Miami would do a sign-and-trade with us. Absolutely zero. I'll bet they would for Rose. It's a moot point because the Bulls wouldn't do it but what a great way to save face. They do the right thing by sending Wade close to his family and get back a stallion on a rookie contract to build around. Some Miami writer threw this suggestion out there.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) Not questioning his sources, but he is way off base on this opinion. Man I gotta disagree. They've got very similar games and Wade is basically Miami's point guard (if not in name). He's got a more developed post game than Rose but otherwise they're remarkably similar.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 10:19 AM) Unless you have some inside information, continuing to say this means nothing. And, really, it's not any more persuasive than the argument that Lebron wouldn't want to play under the shadow of MJ. Miami has to be intriguing to these guys. Wade, Bosh and Lebron playing for Riley is better than anything else in the league. Problem is, they'd have no one else to rely on. If one of those guys gets hurt, they become a good but not great team. Plus as others have said, they'd all have to take a little less money, which may or may not be a concern, no one knows. Yet they also don't pay state income tax in Florida, so on balance taking less salary to play there may not be an issue (if they can set aside the ego hit of not having a max contract).
  10. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 28, 2010 -> 11:47 AM) I still think the Bulls and Knicks are the two main players for LeBron. If the Knicks pull in LeBron and a guy like Haywood, it could make a lot of sense in LeBron's eyes. PG. Toney Douglas SG. LeBron SF. Chandler PF. Gallinari C. Haywood Eddy Curry's 11M is expiring next year for more help. LeBron would get to dominate the ball, the spotlight, and have a proven coach, as well as a 3 point guy in Gallinari. Who's going to demand the ball in that situation? Douglas, Chandler, and Haywood will mainly play their roles as defenders and rebounders, while Gallinari spots up for open jumpers. I think it makes a lot of sense for him. And isn't Melo a FA next year? Now there's a guy that I get the feeling craves the spotlight of playing in NY. They could grab LBJ this year and grab some stopgap pieces, then next year grab Melo with the additional money coming off the books. Granted, there's a lot of overlap in LBJ and Carmelo's games but LBJ could move to the 2 or 4. A-rod left SS so I don't see why any superstar can't change positions even during their prime. That said, Miami scares the s*** out of me. I could absolutely see James and Wade coexisting. I don't buy this "he'd be second fiddle to Wade" BS. He's the game's best player, he'll play second fiddle to no one. And not that I give the Clippers a chance, but I also never bought that the reason he wouldn't go to LA is he wouldn't want to play in Kobe's shadow. Please, Kobe's getting up there in age and mileage on his body, he's not gonna be at this level for much longer.

  12. If he doesn't play every day, does Steve Stone go off on Ozzie?
  13. The wife and I went to last night's game and are going tonight as well. PNC Park is everything it's made out to be; just a gorgeous ballpark. I've got a lot of sympathy for the poor Buccos fans though. They seem knowledgable and passionate for having stomached 18 straight seasons.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) Yeah, its rough. So many different things in one workout. I DID puke after an insanity workout however, but I think it was the protein bar I ate. Sounds like a cherry on top of one of those wonderful Insanity workouts haha. Just did my second CS workout and it was worse than the first. Ugh.

Damn! I did core synergistics for the first time last night and felt like I was gonna vomit for 20 minutes or so afterward. That was a much tougher workout for me than any of the others thus far.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 07:14 PM) Claire is there having given birth. And Sayid was also there, and could return to see his brother.
  17. QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) 38 times second base has been stolen against him and 52 times runners have been thrown out at second. Only three attempts against him to steal third and two were successful. He has also had home stolen against him once. So in total he holds stolen bases to 42% and league average is right around 70%. That is remarkable. He has 70 pickoffs to go along with 37 pickoffs while caught stealing. Jose contreras has averaged 20.4 stolen bases against of second base in his career compared to buehrle's 3.8. Buehrle is decent you could say. Wow, 40 stolen bases against over a 10+ year career, and really, Olivo was the only above average catcher in terms of keeping running games in check. That's just astounding. This guy is so underappreciated.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 01:38 AM) Didn't he say "good" bullpen guys? Haha come on this thread actually asked Caulfield to list ex-Sox players, he really never had a choice. This is the guy who finds a way to include a list of 7-10 ex-Sox in 75% of his posts. I kid, I kid. Kinda. Brendan Donnelly? Not ever on our big league roster IIRC but he's had a decent career.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:31 AM) Doing Yoga today. How necessary are yoga blocks and is there anything that would be a good substitute that I have around the house? The necessity of them is really based on how flexible you are. The less flexible, the more you'll need them. You could stack a couple dictionaries or big books on top of each other but you will sweat like a mofo so cover them to keep them dry! I'm close to ending week 3 but I'm going to do an extra week of this first segment since I had to miss 4-5 days. I'm noticing some added bulk but haven't lost any weight yet. It feels so wrong taking in so many more calories now than I was before but I'm trusting the process. At least I don't dread the workouts.

I finally got all the stuff together and got started last night. So, that's a lot of pushups but I did enjoy it. I'm expecting the pull-up bar to collapse and me to break a leg or something but other than that it's cool. The trainer dude is hilarious which helps except when he made me laugh a couple times while I'm in the midst of putting everything I've got into a set's last push-up hahaha.
  21. Alex Chilton died last night of a heart attack at age 59. Very talented and unknown guy that inspired a lot of acts. I liked The Box Tops and Big Star's music, but learned to appreciate him a lot more after visiting the Stax Museum in Memphis last year. http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/tur...less-bands.html

I'm gonna give this a shot. I'd like to drop about 15 extra pounds I've been carrying since college and with my 30th birthday just around the corner, there's all the inspiration I need. I've been running 12-20 miles a week for the past 2+ years and have really just fluctuated around the same weight give or take 5 pounds, which has been frustrating. After reading through some of the P90X literature, this has happened because I haven't been eating enough and also the eating schedule that I follow sucks. It's really tough for me to swallow anything before 10am. I eat a small lunch (a bagel or a small sandwich), then snacks when I get home (not good ones) followed by a large meal during which I generally gorge myself. For roughly 4-5 years, I've only very rarely had soda, mostly just water. Sooo, we'll see how this goes. How do you guys handle it if you're going out of town for a weekend, or you're having company over? Do you just pick up where you left off? Go back a few days? Also are the protein drinks/bars necessary or is this just the company trying to make some extra loot?
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 9, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) Sweet...passed my physical and drug test for my new job and officially start on Feb 22nd!!!! Beckman Coulter...here I come Cool, we buy some stuff from Beckman... although I have to say I prefer BD's equipment.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 11:01 PM) They have to be the team of the decade. They were in first every single day of the year, plus they tied a record 11-1 in the post season. In other words there was exactly one day all season long where they weren't either in first place, or leading a playoff series. That is the very definition of total dominance. Of course I think they're the team of the decade and I think the wire-to-wire lead is kind of cool. However, I think them owning the 'team of the decade' title hardly hinged on having happened to have won opening day that year (thus making the wire-to-wire claim possible). Good read. I wish they'd do a year-by-year analysis of each Series winner.
