  1. QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 12:12 AM) i'd wait to start beckhams arb clock and then have this as my lineup when they want to start him Getz 2b Beckham SS Quentin LF Thome DH Dye RF Konerko 1b AJ C Ramirez Cf Fields 3b Bench of Betemit, Anderson, Lillibridge (PR and Def. replacement) and Lucy MB, Gavin, Danks, Colon, Contreras Jenks, Linebrink, Thornton, Dotel, Richard, Carrasco, Marquez/Broadway/Russell/Wasserman/Nunez (I am intrigued by nunez, but really like broadway in that mop up, nick masset role. Would like to see Marquez starting, don't think Wasserman has what it takes especially for multiple innings, and russell has been brutal) won't happen though, as the organization seems pretty stubborn at keeping alexei at SS even though its possible he would be a better CF than SS defensively (see BJ upton) and we have a gaping hole in CF right now I love that lineup but Alexei hasn't gotten any time in CF since a few games at the start of last year (correct me if I'm wrong and he's gotten time there this ST). He looked pretty bad out there too. So bad in fact that I find it hard to believe that was his primary position in Cuba. If something like this were to happen to be the team's plan, then they need to get Alexei some time in CF starting right now.

If you do go, check out The Brewer's Art. Fantastic restaurant in a decent enough neighborhood and they've got some outstanding brews, specifically the Resurrection Ale. I've been there twice and it's been great both times. I highly recommend it.
  3. Anyone see that Jeff Mangum actually got on stage and performed a few songs with Olivia Tremor Control? Great news. http://www.tinymixtapes.com/Jeff-Mangum-Performs-Three-Songs
  4. Old Comiskey New Comiskey County Stadium Miller Park Kauffman Jacobs Yankee Shea Fenway Camden Yards Natonals Park Skydome only seen the outside: Petco Old Busch going to this year: PNC Citizen's Bank Man I really need to get to some West Coast parks...
  5. What gets me in articles like this is they focus on the fact that the Yankees haven't won a championship since 2000 and suggest that despite their super high payroll, the playing field is even because we've had a laundry list of other teams win it all since them. What their payroll buys them is hope from the first day of spring training and basically (with the exception of this past season) an automatic ticket to the postseason.. Pirates fans sure as hell know they have no chance of winning it all on Feb 9th. Ditto Royals fans and all the fans of other thrifty organizations. To suggest that their payroll gives them no advantage by pointing out they haven't won since 2000 is ridiculous.

    MP3 Earbuds

I absolutely love my shures and try to pimp the brand whenever I can. I think mine are the E2C's. They're reasonably priced, though I do question the workmanship a bit since I don't treat them that badly and two pairs have shorted. That said, it's unreal going on an airplane and having my ipod at a normal volume and hearing it clearly. Also is it really only a 2 year warranty? Like I said I've sent mine in twice and they've sent me brand new pairs both times no questions asked, even beyond 2 years IIRC.
  7. Cowley's tweet of 5 minutes ago: "The Jermaine Dye rumors continue with the Rays and Braves the latest candidates to acquire the veteran." To go from the high of Bailey and end up with just Edwin Jackson or Jo-Jo Reyes, ugh....
  8. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) money, age, and defense not great ????
  9. Does he make the hall? Remember, it's the hall of fame, not the hall of very good. This is the perfect time for him to retire. There are no easily attainable milestones in the near future and he's still been solid the last few years so he's not sticking around too long. I'll miss him but I sure wish he had pitched in the AL.
  10. His injury last year is kinda worrisome so there is a small cause for concern but hell it's Jake Peavy, bring him on. And of course he'd waive his NTC if for no other reason than to play with BFF and fellow redneck Scott Linebrink.
  11. I love Colbert. That special was god awful.

    Tipping

My biggest conundrum is what to do when doing carryout. There is a fair amount of work that goes into taking the order, placing it, and wrapping it all up with the extras, etc. I still wouldn't have ever thought of tipping if I wasn't compelled to by the tip line when signing my credit card slip. I do 10% but I get s*** from the wife everytime. What's the proper etiquette here?
  13. Toyota used the same song in an equally relentless ad campaign 7-8 years ago. I know because I couldn't stand the song then so I assumed everyone disdained it. I downloaded it, pumped the volume way up, looped the song and left my dorm room to hysterical results.
  14. Considering that the salaries they're gonna command should be fairly similar, I'd LOVE Furcal over the O-Dog Orlando Hudson. But he's such a huge risk with his back. I mean, we've seen what a problematic back can do to a player with Crede, but he'd slide right into that shortstop spot so nicely. Upgraded defense, ideal leadoff hitter, speedy, and it would give more flexibility in filling the centerfield spot than HAVING to get a leadoff type out there. It's just a shame with his back.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 22, 2008 -> 03:08 AM) I happen to like Tim and Eric, thank you. You just have to check in your maturity card at the door. Word, that show's good for many laughs. I love it, my wife absolutely cannot stand it. It's polarizing no doubt.
  16. Very recent newlywed here. We decided in the name of budget accountability and to best forge ahead in paying off high interest debt first, regardless of which one of us it came from, to have a single account. Hopefully there's never too much of a discrepancy in our earnings that could lead to some resentment from the higher earner. We've really bought into the whole union thing so we feel this will work best for us short term and long term.
  17. Such a sad sad thread. I noticed thinning starting at 21. By 23 it was thin enough that it was noticeable to myself so I went with the buzzed look at about a level 3. I didn't have a bald spot at the back or the front, it was just a more generalized thinning. By 26 about, 2 years ago, I finally said screw it and I've been shaving it every other day since. It definitely bothered me for awhile being so young with thinning hair but thankfully there are women who can look past it. I guess it was karma for making fun of my dad for all those years. Hell I went bald about 10 years before he did. Even though I shave it I still think the hairline is recognizable but whatever, at least I balded with grace. I feel so embarrassed for those in the Combover Crowd who do the duty with no grace whatsoever. If someone offered me free plugs or Bosley or what have you, I'd take it but I'm beyond the point of being so bothered by it that I'd spend a significant amount of money or effort to fix it. My, that was cathartic.
  18. I generally think a wake can be helpful but color me a closed casket kinda guy. If you're gonna have an open casket, might as well go all out and skip the casket like this guy: http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Man-kept-upr...d8e0ab6e2c2e871
  19. So did AJ get hurt? If not, then Oz really added insult to injury by taking AJ out of the game after his failed bunt rather than letting somebody on the bench attempt it (at least according to sportsline who says paul phillips (?) is catching now).
  20. Also given the curious timing, I wonder if KW is gonna try to make a move to get someone to help out in Quentin's absence for September even though the incoming player wouldn't be eligible for the postseason roster.
  21. Didn't see this posted anywhere. I always had high hopes for the guy and I hope he finds success somewhere. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...MLB&id=4472
  22. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) I don't care if it's career or seasonal, I don't see the point in discussing batting average for a player especially like Thomas. Who cares if it falls below .300? I'd rather see him round out those numbers in the other categories that were posted. Just for fun, in 1997 Shawon batted .300/.312/.451. I'm pretty sure Frank is damn proud of his career BA... tough to find a quote on that but I recall that being one of, if not his proudest, stats.
  23. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...8518&spln=1 In a way, I kind of hope he calls it a career at 40, especially if this injury is going to require surgery. I'm ready to start the countdown of my first trip to Cooperstown. Agreed. He's still got that career BA above .300. I'd hate to see him come back a shell of a shell of his former self and have that drop below .300.
  24. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) and driving in a run. with two outs. I hate the guy but he's nails. Saw this in Stark's most recent column, surprisingly showing that Morneau's second in baseball for having runners on base that he fails to knock in: Stat of the week Here's our latest brainstorm for illustrating how RBIs are overrated -- a new stat concoction we're calling Runs NOT Batted In (RNBI). To compute it, you start with number of runners on base when a hitter bats, subtract the number of those runners knocked in and compute how many of those runners each hitter didn't drive in. The leaderboard, through Aug. 26 (data from baseballprospectus.com): HITTER RUNNERS DRIVEN IN RNBI Garrett Atkins 434 64 370 Justin Morneau 439 82 357 Troy Glaus 415 63 352 David Wright 423 75 348 Jeff Francoeur 393 49 344
