  1. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) 40 HRs in that cavern of a stadium? I don't know about that part. Comerica can't be that much bigger than Joe Robbie Stad, if it's bigger at all. I thought that place was huge.
  2. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 5, 2008 -> 09:20 AM) Any tips on cleaning a laptop screen? Like anything that works really well? Not sure what kind of screen you've got, but I take a very soft cloth (normally a clean t-shirt), wet it with warm water (not too much, obviously you don't want to be dripping water onto your keyboard), and then gently clean it. Don't push too hard but if you are persistent you can get everything off. Refresh the water so that it's always warm water in contact with the screen. I get fairly bad buildup so I clean it like this every few months and it works. I avoid (perhaps unnecessarily) using chemicals to clean it, though I'm sure there are some commercially available.

    Suits

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 26, 2008 -> 10:35 PM) My nice one is charcoal gray double breasted from Brooks Brothers. My next one I was thinking about going to Macy's and trying to find a good designer suit on sale that's three button, probably black or navy. I personally think charcoal is king but i want some variety. I love me some Brooks Brothers. Too bad I can't afford anything in the store unless it's like 90% off. I've got probably 4 suits, mostly CK or something of that ilk from Macy's. They really do have some great deals ($250-$300/suit). In a pinch I recently had to get a solid black one at Van Heusen. Their selection was pretty far from stylish (looked to be more for the...uhhh... aged individuals), but I got another jacket while I was there that I really like. On the whole, I'd stay away from Van Heusen.
  4. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) So, I'm kinda all about the new Nada Surf and MGMT right now. I really wanted to like MGMT but I just couldn't get into it. It was shy of being oracularly spectacular as they would have led me to believe. I am however digging Panda Bear's release from early last year called Person Pitch. It's got this cool, airy, Badly Drawn Boy meets the Beach Boys feel to it that I can't get enough of.

    LOST!!!!

QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 1, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) I think the person in the coffin is Michael. On the Wednesday scrolling-notes show they said a very popular theory was that the man in the coffin was from New York, and I'm not 100% sure but I think Michael lived in a big city by himself in an apartment before getting Walt. And Jack would be somewhat torn about his death but obviously he is not a friend because Michael sold them to the Others to get Walt back. It's pretty cool that for the first three seasons we get only flashbacks to show us the past of each character, now it looks like the final seasons we will get flashforwards instead. The funeral home was also in an all-black neighborhood, FWIW, which off the bat made me think it was Michael (although at the time it was jokingly).
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) I hope you're talking about the poutine -- absolutely delicious. I also found it funny that they aren't hard at all about carding -- I know the drinking age is 18, but I think there are some high school kids who look older than me, and even though I had my ID out, they didn't even think about asking for it. Yeah, poutine is definitely my favorite treat when I go up there. Pretty bizarre sounding combination of ingredients, but it's just ridiculously good. That and a Montreal dog (they put nothing on it) and a Moosehead and I'm set. Overrated cities for me: 1) Boston 2) Boston 3) San Diego 4) Boston 5) Orlando (although I don't know if anyone actually rates it highly)
  8. 1) Chicago-obligatory, but also I'd love to move back to the area and live in the city eventually, get some Sox season tix.. obviously the food is a huge plus. 2) Montreal-VERY cool, great city to walk in.. I've had nothing but great times every visit-LOVE the food. 3) New York-Even though I go with frequency, I've still come nowhere close to doing everything I'd like to do there... outstanding food (I'm sensing a trend) 4) Osaka/Kobe-I didn't get to see Tokyo when I visited, but these two nearby cities were a good representation of urban Japan, and it's just like a different world. Lotta fun, and the ladies really dig blonde dudes.
  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) So give a guy a big reward after he shows some signs of life in a month and a half of exhibition? Not too mention his reward isn't that high, he is coming off of back surgery, and he has a talented, younger, healthier, cheaper replacement to take over his job. Granted, of course it's a risk. I'm saying you TRY to sign him to something reasonable... ya know, at least make an effort. If he and Boras aren't going to agree to something along the lines of a 3yr/$21-24mil (just throwing some numbers out) then you have to very reluctantly deal him for a bag of balls. And you're not losing Fields for nothing, you try to deal him for a nice young SP. Say, a guy not coming off a major injury who is talented, young, healthier and cheaper than Bartolo Colon. I'd feel a lot better about the whole thing if I didn't value defense so strongly.
  10. I'm so pissed that they've painted themselves into a corner where they're going to be straight up giving away a fan favorite, gold glove caliber, clutch-hitting homegrown talent (not to mention my favorite player). I know it's a combination of management, injury, the emergence of Fields, and Crede's representation that it's gotten to this point, but it just sickens me that another team is going to get this for giving up a small pile of crap. Since they gave up on the Fields in LF experiment last year, they're pretty limited with options. What I'd like to see happen is Joe proves himself healthy in spring training, then you TRY to work out a longer term extension. If he bites, see what you can get for Fields which is hopefully some young pitching.
  11. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) Probably go to dinner the week before to avoid the crowd and the screwed up menus that restaurants put out. I hate it. You go wanting something specific and they have 3 appetizers, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. Yeah, this really messes it up for me. Feb 14 happens to be my special ladyfriend's birthday. Every year we go out to eat and the menu/crowds are really annoying, and we swear we won't do it again next year, but it just seems wrong not taking her out to eat on her birthday, so we go. It also complicates things gift-wise, although all things considered, that probably works out in my favor. I might have to look into this charm bracelet suggestion.
  12. I hereby crown Gravel 2008's COMEBACK KID.
  13. Grafton County REPRESENT. This is probably the largest of the non-'urban' parts of the state. Very liberal with Dartmouth and being right on the Vermont border. Lots of Obama supporters, so hopefully it helps.
  14. 601 charac/min, 113 correct, 2 wrong (best of a few tries). I lvoe tshos tesst.
  15. I like it. With the 'roof' closed it looks like a big ray hovering over the field. I hope their cover works better than the one at Olympic Stadium up in Montreal. They had the same design and they had nothing but problems with. I think they eventually just stopped using it.
  16. I suppose I'd be OK with an acquisition of Crisp as long as Owens isn't in the lineup. If we're getting Crisp to play center with, say, Crawford or Cabrera or Burrell in left I'm ecstatic. I'd even be ok with Crisp in center, Fields in left, Crede at third (I'm still working on fathering Crede's kid if that's in any way possible). If the plan is to get Crisp to play center and leadoff with Owens playing left and batting 9th, then I'm far from impressed and would in fact be quite pissed.
  17. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) Don't know which are available on audiobook, but lately, I've been on the best run of books I can remember in a long long time. 4 in a row, various genres, all really great and I highly recommend them. Not sure what genres you like - some of these may not apply. Here they are, in the order I read them... --Final Harry Potter Book by JK Rowling --Blood and Thunder by Hampton Sides --No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy --The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold Enjoy. Thanks yo. HP and the Deathly Hallows was great. I'll probably go with the last two. Figures that today, day of the drive, is the day we get our first snowfall up here. Tremendous.
  18. I've got a long ass ride home tomorrow for Thanksgiving (~15-16 hours). I need a good audiobook suggestion, preferably fiction. Hook it up, friend.

    Pet peeves....

I hate when a dish-sponge gets used and not wrung out, then sits in the sink sopping wet overnight, and I'm the next to use it. It's really just one of the most disgusting smells. I hate when I'm trying to take a dump in a public bathroom and somebody's gotta come and sit right next to me (only occasionally putting their hand under the stall divider, and waving it palm up in an upward direction). Also, though I don't necessarily fault the people who use the service for using it, I hate the thing at Six Flags where you can pay to skip to the front of the line. I hate when people try to take every minute detail of a conversation and tell me how it relates to them, even if they're only tangentially involved in the conversation, i.e. attention whores. For instance, if I'm talking with Person A about, say, running and Person B who happens to be sitting in the vicinity feels the need to say that s/he hates running when I wasn't talking to them in the first place. Or I'm telling Person A about a trip I had and rather than listening, they interrupt and start talking about a similar trip on which s/he went.

    Dog owners..

Well I'm a little late to the party, but we've been feeding our Boston Terrier Natural Balance for the last 3 years. She's 4 and has digestion issues and after trying 5-6 other brands, NB is the one that suits her system best. It keeps her much more, uhhh, solid than the others did. It's definitely pricey but for a small dog I have no problem with that.
  21. Rockies. It's completely unf'ingbearable living here in New England right now. Between the Red Sox, Pats, and now the Celtics (and worst of all, the fans themselves), I just can NOT take it. I've proudly hung up a Rockies sign outside my lab alongside my vandalized White Sox sign... can't wait to see what cleverness will befall it.

    The Office

Aw come on, 'I DECLARE BANKRUPTCY!'... that was hilarious. The Michael in debt storyline was very enjoyable.
  23. Back in the day I collected napkins. They ranged from all ends of the napkin spectrum including restaurants, holiday-themes, store-bought plain white or print, you name it. I've still got the original collection but I haven't added to it in a good 15 years. The estimated value of this collection is roughly one dollar. I guess the closest thing I have to a collection now is pint glasses from different breweries.

    slingbox

Yeah I have one. I got it when it didn't look like Extra Innings was going to be available on digital cable and I couldn't miss this championship season. It's OK. I made the stupid mistake of getting the top of the line HD model which was a ridiculous decision. Of course you're never going to approach HD quality over the internet (at least not anytime soon), so I'd go with the base model. I have it hooked up at my parent's house back in Chicagoland and it often needs to be reset for one reason or another, which is a pain in the ass. Most recently I had to go about 4 months without it since they couldn't fix it themselves and I had to wait until I was home next to do it myself. My hope was I'd be able to hook my computer up to my TV and get a reasonably clear picture, but I never even bothered trying. The picture quality on my computer screen is just passable, of similar quality to the MLB.tv feed. Don't expect too much. It of course depends on your connection speed at both locations, so you may have better luck. Bottom line, it's a nice product if you get the base model and have ready access to the slingbox yourself (i.e. at your house). Hopefully it works for me this Sunday so I can catch the Bears game.
  25. QUOTE(max power @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) I dunno, this team stays even a little bit healthier, and BP is pretty far off. I'm not going to take my hat off to them, as it was mostly luck. But injuries are factored into their prediction. IIRC, health and age were the two main reasons they predicted 72 wins.
