QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 02:40 AM) Jorja Fox from CSI....she use to be a model and to me very fugly. I'm so torn on her, but I think most of that is due to the gap between her front teeth. I guess that must be, like, her 'thing', but she'd be a lot hotter without it. She's got a great voice. I would totally hit that voice.

Maybe Detroit's counting on Timo being a good luck charm. He's been a member of the last two WS winners despite the fact that he sucks. I loooooooove the Timo/Neifi bench combo. Absolutely love it.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 02:11 PM) So he said if it came down to the Cardianals and Sox offering the same contract he'd pick this Sox? Talk about spin, I never expected the guy to sign with the Cardinals anyway, I expect him to sign with the highest bidder on the open market which in all likely hood would not be the Sox or Cards. I didn't hear the interview, but from the sounds of it he was explicitly asked about the Cards, and that's all he was addressing. It's hard to blame him for not laying his cards on the table and saying that he'd sign with the Sox on the Sox' terms and ignoring more lucrative offers. That wouldn't be very smart with respect to bargaining. It's good to hear something like this out of his mouth. You're right, it's not big news, but I'm still happy to hear it.

Sopranos Entourage Grey's Anatomy (not mine, but I do like the show a lot) Meet the Press Scrubs America's Next Top Model (not mine again...) Making the Band (most definitely not mine... god this is terrible...)

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) Soledad O'Brien. I used to think she was decent looking until I saw her on Celebrity Jeopardy. What a complete and utter moron. Now I can hardly stomach the sight of her, much less the thought that people get their news from her. Granted, she an interesting mix. I gotta go with Tina Fey. Love the nerdy girl persona and the fact that she's the rare woman who can actually make me laugh.

I thought the Indians were the team we were hoping would take our spot at TEP. If they're gonna get their own place now, that could complicate matters.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dmVU08zVpA not work safe, but if any of the gentlemen (and I stress 'gentlemen') are looking for a gift for that special lady, here's an idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dmVU08zVpA not work safe, but if any of the gentlemen (and I stress 'gentlemen') are looking for a gift for that special lady, here's an idea. QUOTE(Soxy @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Just now saw this, but I agree Mike, Jimmy Johns is gross. If I'm going to pay for a sandwich, it's going to be a Wegman's sub. Mmmmmm. Yeah Wegman's makes some seriously mean subs. I really miss Wegman's. I'd have never thought I'd miss a grocery store after growing up on Jewel and Eagle, but Weg's did the trick.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) Compared to the regular price, I'm sure it's a pretty good deal. I'm just the type of person that doesn't get into the newer technology until it's be around for awhile and the prices have dropped significantly. I just got my first DVD recorder last year. I still have a regular tube TV, I still have a regular computer monitor, I don't own an MP3 player or a DVR and I've just started getting into digital cameras about 2 years ago. How long is 'awhile'? Digital camcorders have been out in the US for 7-8 years.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) B/c $51 mil is an enormous amount of money for a Japanese team, something like 300% of Seibu's annual payroll. Seibu already budgeted the money towards higher payroll, park improvements, etc. Imagine what the Sox could do with a $300 mil gift. If you return, the team can't use that to improve and the fans know he'll only stick around for one or two more years. Plus, from what I've read, there won't be any sympathy, since even the lowest offer is larger than his Japanese baseball salary. It doesn't sound as if he'd be welcomed back. Thanks dude, that clears that up. If they hadn't come to an agreement in the 30 day window, could he have been posted again next year? Or would he have to wait until free agency? (Sorry if this has already been answered previously in the thread).

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) Yes, I understand that. But he would have been HATED in Japan for screwing over his team. Is that the mindset over there? They'd rather see players their players leave and have success over here? That's interesting. I can understand there's some pride involved in seeing your boys go and succeed at the highest level (and they're a very proud people), but if I'm a fan of his Japanese team I'd rather see him stick around for those two extra years. What do I care if my team makes some loot? This is nothing but me trying to put my feet in a Japanese fan's shoes. Why would he be hated?

Best Female Singers/Bands with a Female Front Woman
maggliopipe replied to sox4lifeinPA's topic in SLaM
Beth Orton and Beth Gibbons have made/contributed to some fine music. I'm a huge sucker for female voices over trip-hop. Also gotta give a nod to Neko Case. -
QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) I was going to reply sooner, but my computer just won't shut up.... The only successful advertising for me is an ad that shows me something for sale that I didn't know about already. The content of the ad never sways me in a positive way - it can only prevent me from buying their product if the ad is too stupid or insulting. I find this to be true with one notable exception: Taco Bell commercials. There's just something about those commercials that always get me hankering for some Taco Bell. Especially their awesome green onions.

I'm on Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. I think it was a bigseller a few years back and I'm tragically late in reading it. I'm pretty fascinated by the restaurant industry and it's a pretty neat behind the scenes look. Pre-ordered is Milan Kundera's The Curtain coming out next month. It looks to be a book-length essay on the history of literature and its classification and.... well I hope it's more interesting than it sounds. I do love most of his works.

Keep working your magic Herm! I really like what he brings to the table and I'm glad to have him back. I love the Indians model of tying up young talent through the arbitration years at a reasonable cost and I wish KW would do more of it. However, it's far from a remote possibility that the Macdougal trade and now this extension combine to blow up in KW's face if Lumsden tears up the league and Macdougal continues his string of injuries. But like I said, keep working your magic Mr. Herman Schneider.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 21, 2006 -> 11:10 AM) So the big question: is there anyone of note that this leaves unprotected? Nanita is the biggest name. From today's Trib: Left unprotected and exposed to the Rule 5 draft were outfielder Ricardo Nanita, who batted .286 for Double-A Birmingham, and left-hander Jay Marshall, who was 5-1 with a 1.02 ERA in 58 games and limited left-handed batters to an 0.96 batting average at Class A Winston-Salem.

So what's the deal with Danks? I see he was their first round pick in '03 out of high school (9th overall). I also see he's a lefty and has a great K rate, but otherwise has only decent numbers throughout the minors. He's been borderline young at some of his stops so I guess they've pushed him hard, but can someone tell me what makes him a drool-worthy prospect? I've got nothing against him, but the numbers aren't bearing out all the praise heaped on him. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/D/John-Danks.shtml

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 01:51 AM) So.............how was the Pancake Breakfast on October 20th? Delicious I bet. It was ridiculously delicious. I can't recall what the google image search was that yielded the picture, but it struck me as hilarious. If you're interested you can special order a day planner with the picture as its cover at www.cafepress.com/mmmbate. Just scroll all the way down. There are some other quality items on that page you can order, including but not limited to a Birds Rule t-shirt and a personal favorite, CITIES t-shirt. It's some merchandise a buddy of mine and I put together.

For long drives, there's generally no way I can stay awake listening to music. I try to find some talk radio or often listen to books-on-tape. I've been going through the Chuck Palahniuk books the last year or so. As for talk radio, it's great listening to right wing radio for its entertainment value (Matt Drudge, Michael Savage) and also some Art Bell.

I was asked by my girl's brother (who lives in NYC) to see if I could score one of these bad boys since I live in New Hampshire, (population 10) and he had no chance of getting one. I really felt like an ass when after standing in the hard rain outside Walmart for an hour (from 11:30-12:30), I found out that they weren't doing any sort of midnight release. And there were some seriously, um, people different from myself waiting out there... and also more than a handful of toothless Walmart employees coming out for their smoke break attempting to strike up some sweet conversation. GOOD TIMES.

QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) I don't disagree, but why has he been unable to come up with great tunes for 20+ years? Same thing with the Rolling Stones. How is it that these guys with all this talent aren't able to evolve and keep making relevant music? Dude, did you hear his last album (Chaos and Creation...)? It's outstanding. Seriously outstanding. To answer the question, it's hard to say what you mean by 'talented' but as far as melodies go and musically speaking, gotta go with Paul. Lyrically, John.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 08:23 PM) It's not that Paxson just got rid of everyone because they were congenital losers, it's that noone could play d except Tyson, and his salary got out of whack. Ramirez is a great offensive player and a defensively average 3b. (Yes, even though he's made some bad looking plays.) But of course they'd be better with Scott Spiezio, since the Cards won the WS. Please... Well you can take or leave the parallels between cleaning house and the Paxson/Bulls reference, but SOMETHING has to be wrong with them, right? They're probably not congenital losers, but it seems to happen when you go to the North side. What I'm saying is if I was a Cubs fan, I'd want a whole lot of new faces in there. I'm not saying that's necessarily what a GM should do, just what fans should want. And maybe I've eaten up the whole 'Paxson brought in kids from winning programs and it's changed the mentality of the ballclub' thing a bit too much, but I think it has some merit. I've always loved a good rebuilding phase, but then again I'm a glutton for punishment. The '90 and '00 Sox were some great, fun seasons as a fan.
-
I just don't get this. If I'm Hendry I am CLEANING HOUSE. You've got a team full of losers. It's like the Bulls who just kept losing and losing and Pax came in and cleared out all the losers, and they turned things around. Unless he's banking on Piniella being enough to change the mojo of that team 180 degrees, even aside from cost, I don't like these moves for them. Cub fans have gotta be getting tired of seeing these faces in their uniforms (especially Wood).

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) I don't know if this was mentioned...but his last name is Loebsack.... Yeah, totally. Plus, he wears glasses. So what will Dan Savage's response to Santorum's defeat be?
-
Maybe this was already mentioned, but David Loebsack (in his first attempt running for public office) took Iowa's second district over 15 term incumbent Jim Leach. He's a political scientist professor at my alma mater, Cornell College in Mt Vernon, a school of ~1000 students. Pretty sweet and considered quite an upset.
