Well I guess this does open up regular playing time for Ryan Freel at shortstop. They can't possibly play Clayton over him, can they?

I can understand people asking what the dude is doing mowing the lawn in a thunderstorm, but why is he a dumbass for mowing his lawn listening to his ipod? Who assumes they're more likely to get struck by lightning because they're wearing an ipod? That's the assertion you make if you say he's stupid for wearing his ipod while mowing his lawn in a thunderstorm. And I agree with whoever said he was getting punished for listening to metallica.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) When I read that the '05 Sox were left off, I realized the whole episode is a farce. The 16-1 finish, 11-1 postseason, 4 straight complete game victories by the starters -- I don't know if anyone remembers the Tom Verducci article -- I think this is the link (but I don't have the subscription) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/...ostseason/2005/ -- that put our team in the company of only 1 or 2 others in history. Of course, we didn't dominate with run differential like other teams have, but that just made our accomplishment all the more impressive. I remember right after the WS Boston Gammons even said they were one of the best couple teams he'd ever seen, putting them right there with the '98 Yanks.

If memory serves me correctly, we normally get maddux the second time through the lineup.

was Error-amis's double hit hard? i've got the yanks-mets game on fox.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) Haigwood, Castro, and Rupe all mentioned in that article. and Francisco too... That's a hell of a lot of borderline ML pitching. One of them has to pan to something worthwhile eventually.

as ugly as this has been, we've been looking good with late inning comebacks of late. i can't believe oz is leaving contreras in to hit here...

I can't believe I once paid $30 to see this f***ing hack perform. I could have bought 15 rolls of paper towels with that money.

The Rangers broadcasters said that was the second longest homer they'd seen hit at the park and they estimated about 475. The longest was by Paul Sorrento but they said that was wind-driven.

My former thesis advisor, Mark Noble, is a big shot in the stem cell field. I love this hypothetical question he poses to people who claim to value the lives of just-conceived blastocysts and fetuses as much as a real human life. You are the only person around and a fertility clinic is on fire. There's a 1 year old baby and a freezer full of 10,000 fetuses. You can only save one or the other. Now of course if you value them equally, you're obligated to rescue the freezer full of 10,000 fetuses and let the living, breathing, screaming and bawling 1 year old burn to death. Is there seriously anyone who would actually save the freezer and let the child die?

I saw Helmet 9-10 years ago at I believe Metro. Afterward we got backstage and hung out with Page Hamilton. Real nice guy, offered a couple 16 year old kids beers.

Josh Fields mention on rotoauthority.com
maggliopipe replied to maggsmaggs's topic in FutureSox Board
I don't know, I see bust written all over Fields. I'm basing it largely on his K rate and glove. I hope I'm wrong. Dream scenario for next season would be something along the lines of trading a very nice package of prospects to Tampa, including Fields, for Crawford. Fields, Broadway, Haeger, yeah fine. Throw Carl in center, put Sweeney in left, pick up JD's option in right. That's if BA keeps sucking it up. I've got much more faith in BA than Fields, though, despite BA's K rate. -
I love me some Eddie Izzard and Chris Rock, and the little bit of Louis CK I've seen I've enjoyed. I used to like Black but his schtick has worn on me. His new HBO special was eh.

I figured the reason he asked for his release rather than retiring was to get paid for the rest of the season. It seems like the D-Backs could have chosen not to grant him his release and just suspended him without pay instead.

GAME THREAD 6-11-06 SOX vs INDIANS

I'm surprised that so many people dislike Miller and Morgan. They're one of my favorite things about Sunday Night Baseball. -
2006 White Sox Catch-All Thread

What's the word on Crede's back? I missed it if Hawk or DJ said anything other than that he was taken out for an irritated lower back. -
A little off topic, but this is from the SI article from earlier in the thread. If they'd take E Santana for Crawford, they'd take BMac. I don't like the idea of trading him but hell, if you could land Crawford and his contract, do it.

McNair Bound For Baltimore
maggliopipe replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I 'use to' think you were wrong, but then... 'That shirt is not worth $10, much less $5'.... as in the shirt is worth $2. Oh yeah, I still think you are. At any rate, does this do a ton for the Ravens? I don't see McNair getting a superbowl ring with this team. -

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) there's no way in hell McNair is worth $9M in the shape he's in, much less $12M. Dude, $12M is not less than $9M. It is actually more. -
that s*** blew mah f***in mind

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 06:24 PM) AJ's develpment would be worthwhile if he could act. He's just so overshadowed by the great acting of everyone around him, IMO. I know it's a popular sentiment that Robert Iler (A.J.) can't act, and I agree, but I think it works well. He's like a regular kid. IMO kids can't act, and any 'acting' they do comes off as over the top and unnatural. By nature young people just aren't as emotionally deep as adults; actors portraying them should act accordingly.

Hey where was the game 3 thread?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 26, 2006 -> 03:51 AM) You know, it's really hard for the top teams in baseball to have a difficult strenght of schedule...because they never get to play themselves. You know why the Royals are so high up on that list? Because they've had to play what, 7, 8 games a piece against the top 2 teams in the league. Well there's certainly some validity to that, but tallying up the position of our opponents within their division right now, it looks like this: vs 1st place teams: 3 games vs 2nd place teams: 3 games vs 3rd place teams: 13 games vs 4th place teams: 12 games vs 5th place teams: 15 games Of course we're a tough team and us beating up on these bad teams has some bearing on their relative s***tiness, but it can't entirely account for this. We have played a very easy schedule. So have the Tigers.
-
According to ESPN, the Tigers have played a tougher schedule than we have. In fact, according to ESPN, we've played THE easiest schedule in all of baseball so far this season based on SOS (30/30). The Tigers' schedule hasn't been too tough either at 26/30. the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/rpi?sortColumn=sos
