  1. Is that Swisher or Big Frank at first? Now I understand why Johnson has been getting so much time despite s***ty numbers. Swisher looks terrible.

    Online DVD Rental

A small added bonus of Blockbuster is that they give you a coupon once a month for a free in store rental. Seems stupid but sometimes you want a movie right away rather than waiting 2-3 days for it to arrive in the mail. I've used both services and noticed little to no difference, one exception being Blockbuster having a slightly better selection.
  3. The night it happened ESPN must have said 10 times about the padding having been ordered but not installed. I don't think AJ was letting any cats out of any bags. They were already out.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 12, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) Neither have I, and I'm wondering if there's a reason. I'd imagine that if you can see a basketball hoop well enough to shoot through those things, you'd be able to see a baseball well enough to swing a bat at it. Or at least that makes sense to me. When's the last time a major league starter actually broke their nose? I read in Uni Watch a couple weeks ago that a Univ of Miami pitcher was wearing one. Here's a picture: http://static.flickr.com/44/135011550_371863e309_b.jpg Here's the Uni Watch article: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=lukas/060427
  5. On the bright side, Santana's been in that dugout cooling off for quite awhile now. Personally, I throw out a poor major league debut and chalk it up to nerves. Obviously his walk rate was high coming in, but not this high. Even if we lose both of Haeg's starts (assuming he starts vs Minnie) that's a blow we can cushion.
  6. I've found, especially on weekends, very reasonably priced rooms near Laguardia (~$50/night) and in Manhattan (~$75-80/night) on Priceline. And these aren't s***ty rooms, they're fairly decent rooms. If you've never been to NY before, you probably want to enjoy the city and not Queens. Queens is OK and you can look at Shea (what an ugly stadium), but it's a fairly long train ride into the city, and even further to the Bronx. If you're staying with a group of people, swing a room in Manhattan. You won't regret the extra $5 or $10 per person per night to stay there. Do a Priceline name-your-own-price for Midtown East for $70 or so and 3 stars. I got a room using those search options with a kitchen, living room (w/fold out couch), and bedroom with a couple beds a little while back.
  7. I've only lived in New Hampshire for a couple months, but I think I'm the only person I've seen wearing anything other than BoSox s***. I was home (Oswego) this past weekend and couldn't believe how many cars now have White Sox bumper stickers and license plate holders. I hardly ever saw White Sox stuff before the Series, it was all Scrubs s***.
  8. My first game of the year. I'm a little nervous with this being Javy's third start against KC already, and I remember Runelvys giving us fits a couple years ago. But f***, it's the Royals.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 2, 2006 -> 08:53 PM) Lance Johnson and Chris Singleton could not come close to playing CF the way Brian Anderson does. Give me a f***ing break!!! While your point stands that it's not yet time to stress over Anderson's offense, I don't know if One Dog 'could not come close' to BA's defense. Lance could throw some serious leather. Not that that's very important. With Logan showing today he could be more than just LOOGY material by throwing a couple innings (although not exactly a high-stress situation), it makes for a tough call once Nelson is ready. I do know that there's no way this team should carry 7 relievers with the rotation we've got. No way.
  10. According to Sportsline's boxscores, that's 38 LOB in the last 15 innings.
  11. I don't know if he's throwing much harder from the stretch, but it seems like he's throwing more fastballs and less offspeed s***.
  12. QUOTE(farmteam @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 02:42 AM) iPod Agent? Where? http://www.download.com/iPod-Agent/3000-2169_4-10338209.html 15 day free trial, but if you don't get any add-ons you never have to pay for it.
  13. QUOTE(pcullotta @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) Dan Pasqua actually already hit one of the billboards. He hit the old Winston billboard that used to be in Right Field. Really? I don't remember that but we are talking about Dan Pasqua so anything's possible. To hit one of those billboards it would have to be at least 550 feet. Borch's is the longest (504?) and I thought it landed on the concourse.
  14. Thome hit that dong because Shelton hit one earlier today and he has to stay one back. Shelton 8, Thome 7. Season will end at Shelton 108, Thome 107.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 15, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) This is such f***ing bulls***. My Cable provider has NHL and MLB on the same channels so because of that the Sox game isn't going to be on Xtra Innings. This is f***ing BULLs***. Two straight games. I'm in the same boat, except my cable provider doesn't carry WGN so I won't see tomorrow's game either.

    Bath towels

Great poll. I've always wondered if it was disgusting that I use my towel for a week before washing it. Well, either I'm not disgusting or the majority of people responding to this are disgusting too.
  18. Another great episode tonight. Am I the only one who thinks Edie Falco is amazing? She's such a powerful actress I get chills watching her do some scenes.
  19. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 17, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) True or false? Budweiser outsells Guinness in Ireland. I don't know if it outsells Guinness, but I was in Galway last summer and couldn't believe how popular Bud was. Especially among the younger people. Almost all of them were drinking it. I must have stood out as a tourist being young and ordering a Guinness.
  20. thome stole his teddy bear and he's chasing him around trying to get it back.
  21. Gario's in Montgomery makes a pretty solid thin crust. The guy who started that had his own place called Gourmet Pizza, also in Montgomery, but he moved out even further west. What I find embarrassing is that Uno's is the nationwide representation of Chicago pizza. I've eaten at them a couple times and it's just awful. I'm sure the original and some of the related ones are top notch, but the franchised ones... seriously. It really gives Chicago pizza a bad name.
  22. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) If he can settle for Lou Malnati's, he orders online just like Pizza Hut. He just has to plan a day ahead. Tastes of Chicago Oh sweet christ thanks for that link. It's a bit pricey, but worth it occasionally. I've been ordering Papa John's online for 5-6 years now. They have online deals, of which my favorite is 3 large 1 topping for $25. And I can pay with a credit card online and include the delivery tip.

    The GRE

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 7, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) Just wanted to know if anyone has taken the GRE (Graduate Record Exam). I need to take it in the next month or so for the program I am applying to get into. It's actually the last thing I need to do in order to get accepted. I understand it can be quite tricky. I've gotten one of those Kaplan books and have started to look over things and brush up. Anyone have any advice on how to study for this thing, how difficult it really is or any other tips. Thanks in advance if anyone can offer anything. I haven't found much if anything on the web in terms of discussion of the test from actual test-takers themselves. I took it a few years ago. I just practiced a couple times with the CD-ROM that was mailed to me by the GRE people. It was pretty much a replica of the actual exam. I'd suggest just working with one of those discs for a couple hours a day for a couple days and it might be enough. I think since then they've changed one of the sections from analytical (which was actually a lot of fun) to some sort of written exam. This seems to be an overly subjective sort of thing, but whatever. Overall I didn't think it was too difficult.
