  1. I think we all saw a lot of Brandon Inge this year versus the Sox, and I also caught probably a couple dozen other Tigers games on Extra Innings, and damn. To me, he looked better than Crede. And both of them looked better than Chavez. Lowell, I could take it or leave it, but the numbers are certainly there. This isn't as ridiculous as Towii winning last year, or Jeter winning annually, but it's an injustice of sorts.

Playboy and The Economist, but there are only so many pooping hours in a week.
  3. The Selfish Gene seriously changed my life. For the immediate 3-4 months after reading it I saw everything through the eyes of that book. I was already a molecular biology major in college but the book made me think of science in a much different manner. It also helped me immensely in grad school in committee meetings when asked questions of the biological significance of questions I was facing. It's really a great read for a layperson, and honestly, you only need to read the first few chapters; it gets pretty redundant. Dawkins was on the Colbert Report plugging his book a couple weeks ago, which was a pretty entertaining exchange.
  4. It's rough seeing my two favorite managers go to chief rivals in consecutive offseasons (Leyland and Piniella). This, however, is strange to hear coming from Sweet Lou's mouth (from the Sun-Times): "It used to be, when I came up to the big leagues, boy, you better respect the manager because if you don't, you're not going to play on that team. Now, the manager has to earn the respect of the players. And that's my job: Earn their respect, so I can expect respect at the same time.'' I admire the old school managers and it's curious and a little sad to see Lou say something like this.
  5. QUOTE(beautox @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) Youkilis is studly. But i'd rather the sox focus their attention on Melky Cabrea deal Cotts + Tracey to the Yankees for him, hes going to be a star provided he isn't put into a back up role next season. Cabrera is a 22yr old LFer, who's natural position is CF, hes got sterling defense and a good enough arm to make runners think twice about a hustle double or scoring from third on a bloop single to LF. Melky is a switch hitter who has great plate discipline and sprays the ball to all fields, his power is still developing, and hes got speed, he just hasn't quite mastered the art of stolen bases i could see him putting something like this up next year .285+/.365/.400 12-15HR, 15-20SB/6-8CS. This dude is a HUGE fan favorite in NY, and Torre loves what he brings to the table. I think NYY fans are sick of buying all their talent and they're craving some homegrown talent and Melky is exactly that. I'm not sure if we've seen enough of him to know that he's going to flourish at the MLB level, but yeah, he's impressed so far. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see them let Sheff walk and deal Matsui (or move him to DH) to have a Melky-Damon-Abreu outfield. A Cotts/Melky swap is an interesting idea, but I don't think they'd jump at it. I keep coming back to a deal with Toronto. IF they're going to keep Wells (and hell if they're gonna deal him let's get our hat in that ring), then they've gotta deal either Catalanotto or Reed Johnson. I'd love to see either of those guys patrolling LF for us next season, especially Johnson.
  6. They wouldn't let me in CBGB. I'm not sure why, but maybe I was dressed too well?
  7. With all the raises due to so many guys next year, I wouldn't be surprised to see cheap Ozuna kept and Cintron dumped. If money was no issue, I'd much prefer Cintron sticks. But who really knows the power the KW mancrush will hold in this situation.
  8. I'm so glad I'm not at this game. So was Rogers worth $8m to the Tigs? I couldn't believe they offered him that in the offseason but thanks to his dominance of the Sox this year, he's basically guaranteeing them a playoff spot.
  9. Does this team make you want to? a) laugh B) cry c) beat the crap out of something
  10. Tonight will be my first visit to Fenway. I'm glad I didn't get tickets to last night's debacle, but who knows, maybe tonight will be worse. I'll be wearing some Sox gear and hoping I don't get beat up.
  11. I'm a little torn. I'm happy to see these dudes up (and very excited in Sweeney's case- starting his clock already signals that he might very well be in the plans for next season) but I really would have liked them to get some playoff experience in AAA. IIRC, none of them have been on any highly successful teams since entering professional baseball.
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 01:31 AM) A rotation of Santana-Silva-Garza-Boosner-Baker down the stretch doesnt send chills down my spine. If I am being biased, tell me, but I really dont think I am. No I certainly don't think you're being biased. I wouldn't classify that as a top notch rotation by any stretch of the imagination. But somehow that team just continues to defy their talent. I saw today that Liriano has been throwing, has a bullpen session scheduled for Saturday, and will begin throwing breaking balls next week. He could very well come back for a couple starts at the end of September which could be huge given the importance of every single game.
  13. QUOTE(Bonderman38 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:23 AM) Can anyone with Extra Innings help me out? For this game it says TEAM 1, and I have absolutely no idea what that is. Yeah dude, same situation here. I swear I've seen Team 1 before but it's not listed tonight. I think I'll look through the million channels one more time before I officially give up.
  14. 1. Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Leave the Driving 2. Air - Mike Mills 3. Tim Buckley - Pleasant Street 4. B.B. King - How Blue Can You Get? 5. The Moonmen - Liquid Kiss 6. Charlie Hunter - So Jah Seh 7. Smashing Pumpkins - Jelly Belly 8. Beck feat. The Flaming Lips - The Golden Age 9. Frank Black - The Adventure and the Resolution 10. Joe Henry - Dirty Magazine
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 02:41 AM) Nice jinx Yeah, seriously. About a minute later he gave up a hit.
  16. Barry 'this will add an extra 2mil per year on my ensuing contract if I can finish it' Zito with a no hitter through 7 versus Texas.
  17. Minnesota up 4-1 in the top of the ninth... Honestly this is the most anemic I've seen an offense that's scored 7 runs look.
  18. Who is that in your avatar ottawa? It looks like the dude from scrubs.
  19. Man how I love Mack's little helicopter swing to left field.
  20. This game has given me some nasty heartburn. Kenny Rogers... Kenny.... F'in.... Rogers... KENNY ROGERS. PLEASE RETIRE. This is just disgusting.
  21. I'd be interested in hearing whether he gets any sort of special welcome (boos or cheers or just indifference).
  22. I think the Izturis trade cemented Furcal's spot as LAD's shortstop. Unless the Dodgers really fall in love with Lugo and make him a lucrative offer this offseason making him their shortstop going forward. With Kent and Nomar back healthy, it seems they have a glut of infielders. Of course either could be back on the DL at any moment. Ross would have a tough time finding playing time, especially with no DH. 1B Nomar, Kent 2B Lugo, Kent SS Furcal, Lugo 3B Betemit, Mueller
  23. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 16, 2006 -> 10:09 PM) It's different from a physical evolution, where physical activity changes bone structures in one generation that are slowly evolved through that species lineage and genes. Dude you should totally publish this, it's nothing short of Nature worthy. I'm pretty sure this must be what happened with the lobster-claws-for-hands family. It all started as a practical joke by an ancestor.
  24. the dude with the biggest vas deferens. i still remember that: hilarious. happy bday.
