  1. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 12:21 AM) I'd love to see him in a winged helmet learning to play WR for Michigan! With that speed, size and athleticism, think about how good a WR he could be. I saw some crazy s*** on sportscenter... Using his 200 meter time, he'd run the 40 yard dash in about 3.5 seconds. Unreal. What's a great score for an NFL prospect? 4.4?
  2. Paul Pierce tops my list. He lets himself get even fatter than normal when the Celts suck, is 'injured', b****es about the team sucking. When he gets better talent around him he finally decides to get in better shape and act professional. What a douchebag. For MLB I'd go with all the vagina-bearded Red Sox (notably Youkilis, Varitek). In the NFL I'd probably go with Merriman. He's a hell of a ballplayer but he's a difficult guy to respect with his antics and PED history. Also just about every Patriot.
  3. I was going to say that we're doing a good job of reassembling Mr. Burns' softball team with the acquisition of Griffey (bringing it to a total of 3: Griffey, Canseco, Sax)... but man, I really think Steinbrenner did all he could to completely reassemble it. the roster: C Scoscia no 1B Mattingley yes 2B Sax yes 3B Boggs yes SS Smith no OF Strawberry yes OF Canseco yes OF Griffey no P Clemens yes that's 7/10
  4. Isn't he leading baseball in go ahead RBI (can't find that anywhere online but I they said it during the all star game)? And that was before today. If the Sox take the division and he's still on top in that stat, along with being near the top of many others as he currently is, it's hard to see Hamilton or anyone else taking it over him, great story or not. Morneau wasn't getting a whole lot of press until late in 2006.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) He really is that slow. Yeah probably. It's just he normally looks like he's trying to run hard but it's in slow motion. That time he didn't look like he was running as hard as he can.
  6. Big Jim's slow, but he's not THAT slow. He wasn't wincing or anything but it sure looked like he was hurting.
  7. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) It looks like more and more that after he was cut by the Dodgers, this was just sort of a favor to him for what he did for the Sox in 2003. It's a bit of a curious gesture.
  8. Why was zesty Este Loaiza in uniform in the dugout? Thought he was rehabbing. Or maybe it just wasn't him but I could swear it was.
  9. This is exactly the kind of move that Kenny has shown a propensity to swing in the past. He targets a guy with an injury-checkered past and/or great yet unharnessed potential signed to a deal with cost certainty. I'm thinking Javy, Thornton, Dye, Thome, etc here. He figures he puts him in Herm's hands to help deal with the injuries (Sox having a fantastic history of keeping pitchers healthy) and Coop's hands to deal with harnessing the potential, and if he can get a taker for Contreras in the offseason, he's not adding any salary to the rotation. The biggest wrench thrown into the equation is if Burnett indeed has an opt out clause in his contract. I'm not saying I'd love Burnett but I also wouldn't be too upset if they got him in a salary dump type of move from Toronto.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 16, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) What happens when the water recedes? OUCH!! Unreal. I used to drive up and down that highway heading to IC from Mt Vernon constantly. I'm assuming that's where the Cedar River crosses and if so, that should mean Solon is OK and Beef Days will still happen this year. Phew! Iowa City's a great town and I hope it's going to be ok. It's the one city in Iowa that has culture and isn't an industrial s***hole.
  11. Tiger reportedly out for the season... BREAKING NEWS Report: Tiger Woods is done for the season, according to The Golf Channel. The website reports he has a small stress fracture in his left knee and also needs ACL repair and wants to return at full strength in 2009.
  12. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) $199 8GB iPhone 3G with GPS Did you catch if that's subsidized by AT&T or if that's the off the shelf price? $299 for the 16GB version which will also be available in white. I wish they were offering a larger size, but this will do. They'll be available July 11. Can't wait!
  13. Is this like Ed Farmer trying to use Rooney's signature line and botching it? That's the joke right? 3.5 up
  14. What an amazing month and a hell of a performance by Octavio. Hard to believe a middle reliever having 24 strikeouts in a month (only 14 IP). That said, I'll go with CQ and the bullpen trifecta.
  15. Interestingly, this was originally to be directed by Sydney Pollack who had to back out at the last minute due to being diagnosed with cancer. He just died yesterday. I liked that guy.
  16. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 15, 2008 -> 08:42 AM) One of the changes Coop made was during the pivot Floyd would wrap his hands behind he head as he rocked towards home plate. His hands now stay lower, and keep his balance set and his center moving towards the plate. This also allows for a pitcher to keep his eye on the target longer, picking up the catchers mitt earlier in the motion. Its a simple, yet very effective way of tweaking his mechanics a bit to help him throw a strike. Contreras has started doing that this season as well. He used to put his hands up over his head when pitching from the windup and doesn't anymore.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 12, 2008 -> 09:57 AM) According to the schedule I was supposed to get mine on Friday but nothing yet. My tax return was direct deposited so I assumed that was what decided whether the stimulus was going to be direct deposited. Maybe I'm wrong about that? I read if you filed your 2007 taxes within the past 6 weeks (so, basically if you filed in in late March up through the deadline) there would be a delay in getting your stimulus check. I was expecting mine on May 2 and still haven't seen it so I did some research and found that out. I had a decent sized tax bill so I wasn't going to rush to get them their money. I guess they're returning the favor. And yeah, it gets direct deposited into whatever account your tax return went to.
  18. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) There is a taste difference. Pasteurization kills some of the subtle flavors associated with the perception of a beer's 'freshness', and so the cold-filtering of MGD was supposed to give the packaged versions of that product a fresh taste reminiscent of unpasteurized High Life on draft. On the other hand, microfiltering removes some small molecules the lend themselves to the mouthfeel of a beer, so there are a couple of reasons for very subtle flavor differences between the brands. Very cool. Thanks
  19. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) Interesting Miller trivia: MGD and Miller High Life are the exact same recipe formulation (and both are 4.7%), but High Life is heat pasteurized while MGD is microfiltered under refrigeration. That's very interesting. I can't stand High Life but I've always thought MGD was a very drinkable macrobrew. Maybe it's just been a perception issue all these years. Or do the different sterilization techniques have that large an effect on taste?
  20. Leyland has switched Guillen and Cabrera in the infield, with Guillen switching to third base and Cabrera to first (apparently on a permanent basis). This certainly diminishes Cabrera's value some. A change in position was bound to happen but I didn't think it'd be so soon. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...MLB&id=2681
  21. Sox lead the AL in runs/game, which is pretty crazy considering they're also only 12/14 in BA at .246 (and 24th in MLB). I don't even know if this should go in the positive or the negative thread. It's the ultimate glass half empty/glass half full.
  22. A lotta fans were pretty torn after the Series in '05. Huge fan favorite and the sentimental choice Frank was unceremoniously released. He had a couple rounds of verbal sparring with KW the following spring training. It was all around a pretty ugly ordeal but a lot of fans were on his side. KW made the huge trade that winter, giving up Rowand and Gio for Thome who was coming off a lost 2005 season. In he came with the suspect back, hefty contract, and the burden of being the return for the loss of fan fave A-Row, but hopes were high he'd turn it around. Much debate ensued as to whether the right decision was made. We're a couple years out now, so let's take a look at the stats: AB PA R H BB HR RBI BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+ COST Thome 967 1196 195 267 206 79 212 .276 .406 .570 .976 148 ~24MIL Thomas 1043 1240 146 282 172 68 220 .270 .377 .506 .883 131 ~18.6MIL So obviously, Thome gives us a left handed presence in the lineup. And it was difficult to tell who would be coming back healthy after each had injury-riddled 2005 seasons.... but did KW make the right call? Sorry I don't know how to format the stats in table form....
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) Dante Bichette Harkening back to the days of Nintendo's Bases Loaded, Quentin's a right handed Oko. He was always my best hitter but all the other team had to do was hit him with a pitch and he'd charge the mound and get ejected.
