QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 06:15 PM) Guardado has a torn rotator cuff and has been playing with it all season i believe. EDIT:Jun 14 Guardado has been pitching with some elbow discomfort. The Seattle closer already is working with a torn rotator cuff, and it's possible that has put more strain on his pitching elbow. Guardado's shoulder hasn't kept him from putting together an impressive 2005 season. Despite a loss of velocity caused by the shoulder injury, he is 0-1 with 17 saves and a stellar 1.57 ERA. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> OOOOOPS! Then if there is another closer out there that can be had I would like to get him. Shawn Chacon if he is doing good with his rehab? Danys Baez? Maybe just bring up Bobby Jenks and see how he does. I still want Randa. What would it take to get him? Joe Crede and a low level prospect perhaps?
-
No mention of Joe Randa or any other names for the hot corner? I need two moves for this team. 1) Eddie Guardado for our closer. It will really set up the bullpen nicely. 2) Joe Randa. Perfect hitter for our type of game and he has a great glove. Now what does it take to get these guys? I can't believe either would cost us a whole bunch and definitely not our top of the line guys. I don't know if Seattle still likes Borchard but you can put him in a deal along with others to get Guardado.

QUOTE(BuehrleTheAce @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Here's another turn on the Everett interview. Some "interesting" comments by the author, but more importantly (and infinitely more humorous), the readers' comments. Enjoy! http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...tter/index.html <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Reading his last comment I am wondering if most media members even go to the Cell. Does he know what he is talking about? Our fans spend too much time in line for beer to follow the game? Most of the time the line is short and takes no time at all even if we do get up for beer or soda or food or whatever. What is he talking about? That statement right there pissed me off more than anything Carl has ever said.

QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) Well, there are some facts backing up the Homosexuality/Nature debate. An overwhelming amount of testimonials from homosexuals seems to say they always remember feeling the way they do. Second off, a look at Identical Twins and Fraternal Twins found some convincing evidence. When one identical twin was found to be gay, there was a 50% chance the other was as well. With Fraternal twins, that # is much lower. Eitiher way, it doesn't really matter nature or nurture, what is important is acceptance and equality. Everett has proven time and time again that he is an idiot. I don't have a problem unless he becomes an idiot with an agenda. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The facts you are talking about were actually talked up by the media and were misrepresented. There is not a gene that makes you gay. You can read about that here if you like: http://www.narth.com/docs/istheregene.html

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) There is a Fry's electronics in Downers Grove (just south of Butterfield on Finley Road). This is the only one in Illinois, and it is a great place. Its like a super-sized Best Buy, but with better prices. I have gotten some great deals over the past year. I bought Madden NFL 2005 for $36.99, the day it came out. Retail 49.99. Now they have Grand Theft Auto San Andreas for XBox for $29.99 (through tomorrow)...Retail $49.99. They also have lots of deals on movies, TVs, CDs, evertyhing they sell. Their ads are always in the middle of the Sun Times (not sure about the trib). If you haven't checked this place out, do it. Has anyone got any kick ass deals from there? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Fry's is the best without a doubt. I bought a 512MB flash drive for 69 bucks last year. That was a great deal. They have great deals on just about everything and they sell anything you want electronically. I can spend the entire day in that damn store.

QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) It's ironic that Carl calls fans ignorant of the game, talking about a subject they know nothing about. How does he explain the fossil record? Does anyone know what he's said about those huge skeletons in the Field Museum (assuming they're still there)? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I believe most fans are ignorant of the game. I really don't think there is any question about that. Have you listened to sports radio lately? There are some really ignorant fans out there. I believe fans that do know what they are talking about are not in the majority. He thinks that all those bones are fake and that it is all a bunch of propaganda.

QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) He's entitled to his opinion, but it also makes him sound ignorant. It's like saying "being left handed is just wrong". I have had gay friends, and it's obvious to me you're born that way. End of story. Why the author asked him that question out of the blue... probably because he knew what Carl would say.. what else would you expect him to say. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It is obvious to YOU. That is an opinion. It is a very debateable and controversial subject. There aren't any facts that back your opinion up. Just because one believes one way or another does not make someone ignorant.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 06:18 PM) Actually, the site I put out there was one that was about how crazy he is and how there isn't an actual theory that he has put out there--essentially that site says, there's no theory to debunk. Because he's crazy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't want to get into an argument of this ridiculous subject, but the link to the site you gave actually puts in the claim that he contradicts himself. He supposedly contradicts himself by offering a 16 hour clock. I already stated how he got his 16 hour clock and how we don't have a 24 hour clock, so he is not contradicting himself in that way. That is all I was saying. That site is ridiculous and lacks all credibility. Not only is he crazy, but the people that created the website to the link you gave out are dumb as s***.
-
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) Right, that's the point. He's crazy. And that is funny. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know he is crazy, but I am talking about the link to the site that you gave. The people that own that site are trying to disprove his theory. That is the site I was talking about.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 14, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) More on the Time Cube Please note that this took MONTHS of research to come up with this brilliance.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That page already seems moronic. I don't agree with the timecube, but the person should know that he is not contradicting himself by giving a 16 hour clock instead of a 96 hour one. We have a 12 hour clock, but have 24 hours in a day. We don't have 24 hour clocks. He is simply taking 96 and dividing it by his 4 quadrants giving him a 16 hour clock. Right off the bat this page doesn't have much credibility.

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jun 13, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) I don't know if it was a nickname first, but he actually changed his name to World B. Free. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes I know he officially changed it, but it started as a nickname. -

I always liked: 1) World B. Free for Llloyd B. Free of the 76ers 2) "Air" Jordan 3) "Penny" Hardaway -
Why don't we get him to play 3rd base? He is a notorious slow starter and I don't think that TB could be demanding that much for him. He is only 28 and makes about 5 million. Is he a possiblity? As most, I would love to have Chavez, but I don't want to give up so much for him. I would much rather have someone like Huff if we didn't have to give up that much to get him. What do you guys think? I don't think we would have to give up BMac, Sweeney, or Anderson to get him as we would with Chavez.

QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) Got a few of our boys on the hot June Hitters list Check it out here Lets hope history does repeat itself.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> By a few do you mean 2? I only saw Pierzynski and Konerko. 2 is a couple. A few is 3 or more.

Ozzie's most dubious managerial call yesterday?
southsideirish replied to Hideaway Lights's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 31, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) Hermy. Everett for Iguchi was a smart move. Everett usually gets the ball deep enough to score in a run. I wasn't concerned with that move at all. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Have you seen Crazy Carl hit lately? He hasn't made good contact lately. At least Iguchi has shown that he can make contact when he needs to. Crazy Carl has been in a terrible slump lately and pinch hitting cold off the bench would definately not help that. I think you are wrong. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 31, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) Well, that's all I got. I haven't heard anyone else talking about it. They do work for ESPN 1000 though so it may not be them saying it, instead a producer for the Sox giving them the information and having them report it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The same producers that gave Tom Schaer his information?
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 31, 2005 -> 04:30 PM) Silvy & Carmen have been talking about it. They clarified the clip. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who the hell trusts them two idiots? I would like a better source than them 2.

Ozzie's most dubious managerial call yesterday?

QUOTE(Steff @ May 31, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) Why is the Hermanson decision even an option...? He told Ozzy he couldn't go in.. :headshake <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Some people are saying that Ozzie was talking about Herm Schneider when he referred to "Hermy". Supposedy Herm Schneider told Ozzie that Frank was too tight to go back in and hit. I have heard clips from Tom Schaer all morning that agree with what you are stating. I don't know what the situation is and who clarified it to mean Herm Schneider instead of Dustin Hermanson, but I would love to know. -
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 31, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) I misheard it the same way. He was talking about Frank, and "Hermy" was Herm Schneider saying that Frank was too tight to keep playing. Hermanson's fine. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When did they clarify this? Because all this morning they were playing the clip and Tom Shaer kept on saying that is why they didn't use Dustin Hermanson to close the game yesterday. I am not doubting you, but where did you hear this clarified at?

Ozzie's most dubious managerial call yesterday?

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 31, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) What's your take? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Letting Buehrle stay in for the 9th was a good move. He should allow his stud pitcher go out there and try to complete his own game. Frank was hurt with a hip flexor and we obviously won because of Timo. How can this move be questioned? The move to Marte instead of Hermy was the right one. Ozzie said that Hermy told him he couldn't go yesterday after he was warming up. The matchups favored the Marte move since Hermy couldn't go. You can't blame the managerial move for this or Marte. He did his job and got the ground ball double play ball he needed. The normally sure handed Iguchi bobbled it. Things happen and you have to pick your teammates up, which the Sox did yesterday. Leaving Marte in to face Quinlan could have been a bad move but I have just as much confidence in Marte as I do Politte in that situation. To me using Everett instead of Iguchi was a strange move and the worst move. I just didn't understand it. Everett is a lefty but he has been in very bad slump and has looked awful up there. I also understand that Everett may have more experience and may have seen Shields more than Iguchi, but Iguchi has proven he can at least make contact when he needs to. -
I have a question. If we do acquire Chavez then what do we do with Josh Fields? I thought our organizations loved him?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 26, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) So we have a guy at 3b who is struggling and who we hope will find a way to hit better, and we want to replace him with a guy at 3b who is struggling and we can hope will find a way to hit better, except the replacement costs more and isn't as good on defense. I can understand people wanting to upgrade to Chavez, simply for the glove. But why are people so desperate to trade 1 struggling hitter for another one, especially given how important clubhouse chemistry can be to a ballclub? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The differnce between Mike Lowell and Crede is significant. Crede has never proven consistently that he can hit major league pitching. Mike Lowell has. I find it hard to believe that you would have to give up much to get Mike Lowell at this point. Believing that Mike Lowell will come out of his slump and start to produce is much more realistic than believing Crede will. How much worse is Lowell really at defense than Crede? As someone else brought up, Crede is not a gold glover himself.
-
QUOTE(robinventura23 @ May 26, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) I doubt the Marlins will be trading him. They're in first place and they'll have to be blown away by a package. He just signed a big contract with them, too. Unless they plan on moving Cabrera back to third, I don't think he's going anywhere. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So then you are calling Sports Weekly a liar? Just wanted to make sure here. You don't think a first place team would trade a high priced 31 year old player that is hitting .208, 2 HRs, 18 RBI, 17 Runs in 149 ABs? Hmmm.....
-
Would the White Sox be interested in him? I know he is not having a good year right now but he has been a damn good player in the past and he is only 31 years old. Would he be worth the risk? I read in Sports Weekly that "The Marlins are telling teams that third baseman Mike Lowell is available...." I am just wondering if it would be a good fit for us. Maybe some people here have seen more of him this year and he is not good anymore. I have not seen him at all this year to say whether he will rebound and get back to his old self. Would he be better then Crede?
