Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
Chisoxfn replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 9, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) No. We don't have enough minor league talent to be "overpaying" for talent right now. We bought low on Quentin, and if all goes well, he might sometime approach the type of numbers Bay has put up. I'd like to wait and see how he looks instead of including him in a deal along with Gio for Bay. Well if the Sox wanted to sell sweeney (something that I don't think is too wise, considering I think Sweeney's value is lower than his prospect status as he is still considered pretty young and still possesses good tools) instead of Quentin I could see the deal making more sense (since quentin is more MLB ready right now). I'd still prefer packaging someone other than Quentin but I'd make that deal in a heartbeat (Lucy isn't a starter for the Sox and never projects to be one, backup-catcher will be his role; Gio has #2-#3 stuff; Quentin or Sweeney have the ability to be good major league outfielders and the Sox get a real good major league outfielder (as long as they are confident that last seasons issues are in the past). -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) Personally I have no problems trusting Forbes numbers. They exsist because they know how to decipher stuff much more involved than a baseball team. The best indication would be how teams like the Royals are spending considerably more due to the much improved revenue sharing agreement in baseball (which allows for the lower end payroll teams to spend money if they chose to). Than again, I'm still puzzled as to how MLB is letting the Marlins get away with having such a ridiculously low salary (I would think this would prevent them from getting any piece of revenue sharing). -
Being your own boss is amazing. I'm the only one at my client site this week so while I'll be working a lot of hours I also have full flexibility in the sense I can work those hours in whatever fashion I want (if i want a 2 hr lunch or to come in super early and in return leave early I can).

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) Enjoy Illinois basketball as your refuge, as your own program isn't going to give you any joy in football or basketball in the forseeable future. The football program is going to be very good next season and the basketball program is headed in the right direction with a great coach. You are truly ignorant if you think Iowa's football team will stink next year (considering all the guys they have returning, including their head coach. In basketball they don't have anything great right now but they have a very good coach who needs to be able to get his guys in. He already has them playing very good defensively despite a lack of talent and when he gets some more shooters the offense will pick up. -

Iowa-ISU on ESPNU. Oh and nice to see Arizona defeating the Illini today -
If he was released I'd be all over it. He has a cannon and that would fit in perfect for a good defensive backup catcher (don't know if his game calling has improved but I like the rest of his defensive skill set). Plus, IIRC he was always relatively decent against lefties so I think he would be a good backup to AJP.

QUOTE(shipps @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 09:50 AM) Just noticed this post Rex I mean Jase.Oh how ironic. The funny part is, today I got the same news as Rex. They thought stuff was torn but it turns out I should be good to go in about 2 weeks (once all the swelling subsides. Mine happened the day before Rex's injury though.

We'll see what dumb ass things i Do next Friday at the company Christmas party.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 11:19 PM) Did they give you any good pain killers at least? No, I haven't taken any pain killers. Surprisingly aside from when the injury occurred I haven't been in any extreme pain. The only odd stuff is the massive swelling (and bruising running down my joint line or something). I guess I'll know for sure what is going on around Monday. Hell the only thing that really hurts is my back from having to sleep with my feet elevated the last couple nights.

f***....got back from the doctors after having severing swelling in my knee the last two days (hurt myself snowboarding) and it turns out I tore something in my knee. They have to wait for the swelling to go down to tell if I'll need surgery. The good news is I seem to be able to put pressure on it and most of my limping is due to the swelling (or so I hope).

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) A new girlfriend.. I need a new cohost for the show. It isn't quite the girlfriend you wished for, but you could use the show to try and get ladies.

QUOTE(bighurt4life @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 10:40 AM) he was taken in the AAA portion of the rule 5, i think that means that he has to be on our AAA roster for the season or we offer him back to the astros, i could be wrong though I think that is the case.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 07:09 AM) It's not toothless; they could act. They just don't want to. Bud Selig has been involved in an effort to cover-up from the beginning. I wasn't aware of some of those players that were not suspended actually using those performance enahncing supplements during a time when they were banned in baseball. -
Oh god....Rex has made so many strides. I can only hope that somehow its not super serious. Still, he was playing himself into a couple year contract and really was the least of the Bears concerns. The Bears need to rebuild the entire oline and really fix the dline (they can probably fix the dline with Tommie Harris and Dusty getting healthy but that is obviously a risk to see whether they can get back and stay healthy). I so hope Rex will be okay. Regardless I never ever want to see Griese play for the Bears (than again I recall saying that the first week I saw him). The guy is a f***ing bum. He just doesn't have NFL ability anymore.

Liotta and Rodriguez were taken in the Major League portion of the RuleV? Or were the two of them taken in the Minor Leauge portion. If they were taken in the major league portion, I just don't see any way those two stay on a major league roster all season unless some team figures they can stick them on the DL for the full-season and keep them afterwards (I'd have to imagine there would be some sort of rule against that).

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:50 AM) watch the 2girls1cup video! don't be afraid! you know you want to. also, I've heard it's fake. I read that it wasn't fake.

Technically speaking this deal is not a done deal. 99% likely to happen so you never know.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 09:00 PM) Now the question is, will Williams and Jerry have the stones to move out a popular player like Konerko. With missing out on all of the plan As. Moving a popular player like Konerko might scare them. I would love to see Konerko moved to Arizona or the Angels for something cheaper. But I dont see it happening. I still prefer a deal involving James Loney (or Kemp) and Jonathan Broxton (or Billingsley). I don't know if they would do it but I think the Sox could find a way to make it work. I also think the Sox could, and I say, could, probably make it more likely if they took Juan Pierre (I'm not saying I'd want to do it, but if it allowed the club to get Loney or Kemp and Broxton or Billinglsey I'd be totally down (even if it meant the Sox gave up a prospect along with Konerko or even someone like MacDougall). Still I buy into the basis of a Konerko deal that could get you those type of playes. Than use your money to get an outfielder (via trade or FA) and use some prospects to find a good pitcher.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) Google the BME pain olympics This makes 2 girls 1 cup look like a freaking cartoon. BME Pain Olympics = Unbelievably painful to watch.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) Honestly, if we trade Paulie, I would want Kotchman and a younger pitching spect. That would be ideal for me. In an ideal world the Sox could get both plus Figgins (that is if the Angels are depserate). I don't think they are, but that isn't to say the White Sox can't try to offer up other things to get the Angels to deal Figgins (I don't know if they would though). However, I agree with you, Kochman and a pitching prospect (Adenhart) would be a nice starting point.

I'm gonna throw a name out there...Zach Jackson and Tony Gwynn Jr. Neither are top prospects both were high draft picks and neither have had a ton of success. I don't know if Jackson turns it around but he still has a projectable arm and Gwynn has some value. He has a solid swing and great defensive tools that would make him a valuable bench player. I think the Sox could do better than this type of package but this is just my guess at two names that are being discussed.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) Other than Juan Pierre, who would you say is available as a leadoff guy? I think it would be a guy that no one has pegged on the board. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if they talked to teams about guys you never thought would be available (maybe Alexi Rios, Coco Crisp (not a new name), David Dejesus, Chone Figgins (not really a new name, but no rumors tied to him), Fukodome (if they just decide the hell with speed, just get OBP), Brian Roberts (the Sox have Richar but there have been rumblings before about moving Roberts to CF). I'm not saying they get any of these guys, but they could obviously try to go after them.
-
My hope is that Kenny turns, decides to just find a leadoff guy and than goes all out to add one to two young starting pitchers that he likes (he can also swing Paulie for a bevy of solid young position players). Hell, with the Angels losing out on Cabrera and Johan it could very well mean that they would pay a bit heftier price for Konerko (although Hunter's bat may be all the Angels GM thought they needed, but personally speaking, I think they could use legit protection for Vladdy).
