He's pretty close to signing or so we believe he is.

Futures game rosters announced
I thought pretty much every system typically gets two guys in. Did they change that this year?

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
I'd be all over Willy Mo. He's a flat out talent who has never gotten consistent playing time and I would love to see what he could do with that playing time. I bet you could get him on the low end and really reap the rewards of it.

Jeff Samardzija moves to bullpen
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:42 PM) No doubt about it. So how long does he have to "play" baseball until he can sign with an NFL team? Damn, he could have been the next Ed McCaffery. Any team could sign him too I think. He's basically an undrafted free agent. I bet he'll make an assload of money in the NFL if he left (maybe he could get that 10 mill signing bonus by playing football professionally with his initial rookie contract).

2007 College World Series Thread
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 07:46 PM) Brett Wallace is good at choking. 1st team All-American is 0-12 at the CWS and just grounded into a double play in the 10th with the bases loaded and 1 out. What a great freaking game that was. Hell of a comeback by the Anteaters. I should have watched the earlier part of the game but the ending was a doosie.

White Sox Relievers in Demand?
QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 08:36 AM) Contreras might waive his no trade to pitch for the Mets. He would be reunited with his buddy El Duque. Good call on that.

6/16 Games (Gio's hand reattached)
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 06:27 PM) How sure of that are you Rowand? PS: all I'm saying is, there's a reason he was a punch-line on Philly's site during the draft and the Phillies thought they'd absolutely hosed us when they traded for Garcia. It isn't because people were breaking down the door for Gavin Floyd, that's for sure. Kind of like how the Sox slammed the s*** out of Maggs when he left (you know, his career was over...oh wait, he's leading the league in hitting and damn near leading it in RBI's). Teams spin s***. 24 year old...5th overall draft pick....stellar arm....two years removed from being one of the 3 best starting pitching prospects in the game....yep, no one would give up anything for him. Afterall, Joe Borchard didn't get us Matt Thornton (cause no one would have been interested in a guy like Borchard, who obviously hasn't developed but teams all over the place would have given up at least something for the chance at developing him and IIRC Borchard was much older than Floyd at the time he was traded). QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) Philadelphia the organization thought they'd hosed us. Fans, too, but the organization especially. Apparently they were wrong....Garcia is on the DL and Gio and Floyd are both pitching pretty damn well in the minor leagues and have a lot more value combined than Freddy Garcia does as of this moment.

Post Your Questions for RHP Gavin Floyd
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) (No point really) My questions are serious, so many people are quick to forget that at 18-25 people are still developing and maturing. Don't worry, I will not ask any innapropriate comments/questions. Keep em coming people

Thome with a sore back
He has a lot of nagging injuries and commands a s***load of value if he were on the trade market (and obviously a major if is whether you can get him to waive his no trade clause) and should be moved at all costs if possible (I'm sorry, but I'd rather not have him completely break down in the next year or two, not when he can help your raid the Angels system).

Mets Interested in Buehrle?
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 05:06 PM) Billingsley is now out of the question in any trade. I would say that the Dodgers will go for a Trachsel type player. Billingsley isn't out of the question. The Dodgers could now look to add another starter plus they still have Hendrickson and Tomko as options. Basically put it makes it a little less likely but definitely not out of the possibility. Plus you now have the potential for a larger deal involving Contreras and Dye.

Schmidt to have shoulder surgery
Why the f*** would the Sox want to trade there best starter. The whole point in having young talent is to put it together with veterans. If all the team wants to do is trade every player that turns good than it will consistently suck. No offense, but any idea involving a Garland deal that doesn't involve the Sox absolutely reaming another team is a dumb idea. Garland should be offered an extension this off-season and this squad should be building the rotation around both him and Buehrle (plus I'd like to keep Vazquez, although I'd settle for the club picking up another veteran pitcher with two youngsters part of the back end of the rotation).

Post Your Questions for RHP Gavin Floyd
FutureSox.com will be interviewing RHP Gavin Floyd of the Charlotte Knights. Floyd had been pitching very strongly as of late for the Charlotte Knights and could be the man the Sox turn to if Buehrle or another starter is dealt. Please post your questions here and I will do my best to get all of them answered by Gavin

KW in PTI five good minutes right now
I still think he may do both. Sell some guys for prospects he thinks can help now or in the near future, as well as sell some prospects that he isn't as high on for major league position players that can help us now and in the future.

Dye trade rumors heating up
Collaspo is very over-rated too. Not interested in him. Billingsley is likely to enter the Dodgers rotation though.

Mets Interested in Buehrle?
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) I doubt very highly that Mark signs an extension with the Mets forgoing his only shot at free agency in the prime of his career and also not giving the Cardinals any chance to sign him. However, if him signing an ext. with the Mets brings the Sox Pelfrey, Milledge and Humber then I hope to hell he does. Without the ext., I think the Sox would be lucky to get 1 of their outfielders and 1 of their pitchers. That would be a good deal for the Sox. I doubt that the Sox include Dye because they most likely do better splitting them up and raiding 2 farm systems. I'd rather give the Dodgers Dye and Iguchi for Billingsley if we could get it. And, I'd rather have Pelfrey than Humber. I'd also rather have Gomez or Martinez than Milledge. But, if the Sox can end up with 2 elite pitching prospects and 1 elite outfield prospect for these 2 it would be great. What could they get for Iguchi ? Has anyone heard anything ? Any speculation on what he could bring back ? When you go back historically and look at some of the big name pitchers dealt at this time of the year, you would expect to get two top prospects and one very good prospect. This deal would be pretty much on par with that.

Mets Interested in Buehrle?
I would have zero problem with that type of deal. In fact I'd be pretty thrilled.

Buehrle Wants a Five Year Contract
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) Jose is up to a 4.80 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and isn't striking anyone out. He's believed to be atleast over 40 years of age but no one really knows for sure, his stuff has deteriorated at a shocking rate since he's now throwing exclusively in the high 80's with no strikeout pitch that he can throw for a strike and he's guaranteed $20M over the next 2 seasons. If he doesn't finish this year off strong it could be REAL tough to move him this offseason without eating any of the contract. I agree with you that it would be tough to move him this off-season if he struggles the rest of this year. But right now I still think he's moveable and thats why they need to get him to agree to waive his no trade clause and make a deal.

Buehrle Wants a Five Year Contract
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 09:28 AM) Untradeable contracts like the one they gave Contreras which makes him... untradeable? I clearly don't think Conteras contract is as unmoveable as some of you all think it is. Freddy was abl eto get moved, Javier Vazquez was moved multiple times, Chan Ho Park, etc....you can bet your ass the club could move Contreras and get something if they wanted to (although it would be nice if he had a couple good starts).

White Sox Relievers in Demand?
Masset needs exactly what he's finally getting, some consistent use. It really is unfair to put too much on his shoulders considering how ineffectively Guillen has used him (with him often times sitting around for a week at a time). That said, Masset needs to step up but I want him at the major leauge level and throwing a lot (otherwise send him down to AAA and have him starting so he can continue to develop cause he has a very nice repetoire of pitches).

White Sox Relievers in Demand?
QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 08:52 AM) Great discussion here, excellent posts by both Addison and Tony. The brain trust will not give this ship much more time to sail and I suspect they know full well it has run aground. There are lots of rumors out there though, and expect many more. Which means the Yes We Are Open sign is up for trade business. I like what Williams says when he comments hey, if we don't get exactly what we want we'll ride this thing out and take draft picks if these guys leave. Which means they are valuing what they might get in trade vs. 1st or supplemental round picks. Part of me wonders if these comments are something the Sox can use for leverage and that is why they were publicly released. With them out there, Kenny can act as if he's still gunning for this thing and that will give him additional leverage in trade talks. I still wouldn't be shocked if Kenny did some selling, but also did some buying (ie pick up guys that he thinks will help the Sox for last year...kind of like what he's done sometimes in years past).
-
I know it sounds crazy, but....
The Sox are going to probably stand pat until the break, so we'll get to see what happens. If they find themselves at .500 they'll consider buying and if they are still floundering we will quickly see the fire sale happen.

6/16 Games (Gio's hand reattached)
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 06:33 PM) There's a reason the Phillies thought they'd completely ripped us off with the Garcia deal and it isn't because they thought Gio was a load of crap (although I'm not sure they exactly coveted him after his year). There's a reason nobody else ever picked him up, either, and as for you saying, "No GM would consider a top 5 draft pick who was a top 10 prospect in the game 2 years ago with no injuries a bust" that's not true. Gillick thought so and I'm sure there are plenty of other people who think so. The consensus was, "Floyd is a bust" through much of baseball until KW picked him up and I still think he's not good. I know I'm not alone, either, and I'll call him a bust until he proves otherwise. Oh, and as for your numbers -- how selective. 28.1 good IP in 2004. 2004? What about his horrible, horrible run last year? His AAA numbers this year are all right but it's his fourth time in AAA and he's in the terrible IL. I'm not impressed. For what it's worth, I don't think he's ready yet and I know I'm not alone. There are other people here who've said it's not a good idea to bring him up just yet. Give him some time to get used to his success this year. I look forward to his starts for the White Sox, whenever they come, because I want to know whether or not I was right or wrong. I think I know, but I want to know for sure. Why thank you. Just cause a GM trades a player doesn't mean he doesn't like a player or has given up on the player. The Sox traded Miguel Olivo and Chris Young, two guys Ken Williams absolutely LOVED (not because they were garbage in his eyes). The Phils made that move because what they thought they were getting in Freddy Garcia, not because of Gio Gonzalez and Gavin Floyd. And you really are off the rocker if you think teams would have passed up on the opportunity of getting Gavin Floyd (some franchises would have valued him more highly than others, but all would have gladly taken a chance on him).
