Karl Malone a coach???
Isn't that his alma mater?

Arron Afflalo going pro
He'll go in the top 25 but Collison is the guy that I prefer of the two. However, I think Howland's guys will have good pro careers becuase they have been stressed the fundementals in college (he's such a good coach) and are all very good defensive players (you have to be if you play for coach Howland).

Blackhawks win top pick in NHL Entry draft
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 06:17 AM) This was such an awesome surprise. Along with the play of the young defensemen and some of the other youngsters throughout and at the end of the year, it really does seem like this team is primed to turn the corner next season. Hopefully, they'll keep Savvy around long enough to be a part of it--he is my all-time favorite hockey player both on and off the ice. Question for some of you guys: is there a hockey equivalent for Baseball Prospectus or Baseball America? I'm sure there is; so, what is the best stuff out there? Also, why has everyone cooled on Alexei Cherepanov and Angelo Esposito? From everything I've read, those two seem like the best options out there. hockeyfutures.com????

UNC's Hansbrough, Lawson returning
Wright has some really really nice low post moves. I know he'd look real good in a Bulls uni.

AAP: Po-Yu Lin
My guess would be short season. The club was not happy with that magically drop in velocity Lin suffered after coming to America and I'd imagine they are a bit concerned and figure it be best to let him spend some time in extended spring training.

4/10 Games
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 10:30 PM) Disappointing to hear thought that Honel was only clocked in the mid-80s yesterday. I'm rooting for him though, he's from my neck of the woods. I think the key is whether he had his old bite back on the curve. I figure the velocity isn't the huge measure at this point, simply because he's probably not at 100% strength so the important thing will be whether that velocity trends upward over the course of his next couple outings. If it does, maybe, just maybe he'll get his confidence back and get back to being the pitcher he once was.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 09:03 PM) Jason, have you seen Honel or talked to anyone who has seen Honel recently? I'm just wondering about the status of his 'stuff', i.e. if he's still throwing that knucklecurve we heard so much about when he was drafted. I'm going to let him make a couple starts and work his way into shape and than try to set up an interview and also contact some others to get an outside perspective on his stuff (I'm curious as well, but I think the key is how well he's doing after a few starts as opposed to just one.)

Dan Haigwood
If Toby Hall was around I could give you a 40 man roster spot we could use, but in this case he isn't so oh well. But I think there are worse guys on the clubs 40 than Haigwood so I do think the club could upgrade. However, I don't expect the Sox to be the team that picks him up. Also something must not have clicked in Texas because when you have struggled as much as they have with pitching over the years you don't generally designate a guy like haigwood for assignment (albeit he doesn't have the stuff that flat out wows you).

2007 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) f*** Aaron Rowand, seriously. Our starting pitching and bullpen (aside from Bobby) look good so far. Hopefully our 1-2 and our manager don't hold this team back. Bobby looks good. Has better control of his breaking stuff from what I've seen but he had a rough night. It happens. Garland threw a lot more like he did in 05 than he did last year. He still left a few fatties up over the plate but he was consistently hammering the inside part of the plate against both Lefties and righties and it meant that when he did leave a fat one over the middle the hitter was less likely to club it.

2007 AL Central Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) It was off Riske. I'm watching the game. The Royals have looked a lot better this year, I've actually seen more of their games than Sox games it seems. We'll see what they do versus Jones. They're better than you think IMHO. They have gotten solid starting pitching so far. Just no bullpen, and a few other pieces. I have seen four games I htink now. I'm falling in love with DeJesus (who just got his third hit today). Duckworth had a very solid game today. Riske just isn't a closer. They have a lot more talent. There new GM (from the Braves org) has done nothing but compile talent for the most part, although he did give out some odd contracts as well and made a couple puzzling deals (the Mets and Sox trades were a bit odd) but overall the team is improved from years past. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 02:34 PM) And with the lackluster play they got at 3B last year, it made perfect sense to rush up Gordon *rolls eyes*. HA, that's why they are the Royals though. Are you being sarcastic? Teahan was absolutely ridiculous the second half of last season. And why not bring Gordon up, the kid might as well grow a bit at the major league level. He had over a full season over minor league ball, had success and isn't being thrown into a high pressure situation with the Royals.

The Sopranos
Some funny lines and a decent episode but not enough Mob for my taste. Entourage was pretty good though but for the most part both shows were more setting things up for the 2nd half of there respected seasons. QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 08:44 PM) I thought he was wearing gloves. I dug the episode and it had some great one-liners. Also, I heard Dan Jiggetts has a cameo in next week's episode. He was wearing gloves.

I like seeing Carter with a 3-5 game. That guy has the ability to be a middle of the order MONSTER.

Contreras Rumor
After he loaded the bases Jose really seemed to wake up (also coincides with when Coop came out to talk to him) because his stuff and tempo has been far far better and the results have shown.

So i found MLB Gameday is on comcast still and its still there free preview time period.....so looks like I get to watch the game tonight.....does anyone know what is goin on here? Would you be happy with 1 of 3?
No....I expect the Sox to leave Oakland with a .500 record.

Contreras Rumor
Rumor or not, the divorce can't be the reason his stuff doesn't look near as sharp. Hopefully he'll turn things around but there is a lot less life to his fork and his fastball thus far early in the season. I remember reading he was throwing pretty hard in spring but it definitely doesn't seem to be the case from watching this game so far (although he's not doing too badly).

White Sox vs. Twins, 4/8/07 (L)
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 12:21 PM) Santana doesn't count any in rule of managing. Someone should have flooded the field today so it was postponed. I've said this for 4 years now, but Santana is the only pitcher we face who I expect to beat us. Haha. Ya, I can't remember ever feeling this way about a pitcher. I guess the exception would be Pedro who I always felt that when his prime was pretty much an auto loss (especially if he weren't on the Expos for part of his prime).

4/8 Games
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 12:06 PM) Long impressive so far thru three innings, 1 run and 3 k's. Maybe his stuff is back cause when he is on, he has a deadly two pitch combination: mid-to high-90's fastball and a hard 12-6 curve. Nice to see the Sox have Floyd on the same schedule as Danks which is very smart, because if you were a betting man you'd say that if the Sox were going to ever need Floyd up as a starter it would be to replace Danks (with them figuring Danks needs more seasoning). I agree on Long. He was really tired last season and it showed and hopefully the full off-season has him fresh because with his stuff there is no reason he shouldn't succeed. Plus I like that the Sox are stretching him out as a starter (even though he projects as a reliever) because it will force him to actually develop some other pitchers which will help him a lot once he shifts over to the pen (where he'd only rely on his two pitches and make little development outside of that).

White Sox vs. Twins, 4/8/07 (L)
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 12:17 PM) Yeah, I actually think AJP didn't help him out much this inning with the pitch selection to Mauer/Cuddyer with two strikes. Obviously, Danks has to fine-tune his control. However, his stuff seems to be decent. I'd say it's 60/40 that he can be on the team this full season. I agree, there is obviously the chance that he just flat out doesn't have the command yet for this level. He seems to have the approach which is a positive and I think it also is valid to note that every time he went to a new level he tended to have an adjustment period (which should be expected) and it should definitely be expected when we are talking about him coming up to the majors for the first time. Overall I'm real excited to have him in the system and on the staff although its still too early to pencil him into the rotation for the next 5-10 years. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 12:19 PM) I would love to say that you should never bunt prior to the 7th inning when your team has 200 homer potential. Not against Johan...I have zero problem moving guys into scoring position when a guy gets on just for the sheer hope you can put together another hit and get a run someway/somehow.

White Sox vs. Twins, 4/8/07 (L)
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 12:14 PM) It's going to be a long year if Santana makes us his b**** again. Its not like he didn't do the same when the Sox won the world series. Who gives a s***, you just take try to pick up a win against him or hold it tight till it gets to the pen once or twice this season. The Sox see him too much and Johan is flat in these guys heads. The club has almost no shot against him.

White Sox vs. Twins, 4/8/07 (L)
Who cares. As much as I hate to say it this game wasn't about getting the win, its about letting Danks get out there have some success and obviously he'll have some trouble and after the game Coop and AJ will sit down with him and help teach him some things and continue to work on his approach. The kid was making his debut against the best pitcher in baseball.

White Sox vs. Twins, 4/8/07 (L)
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 12:05 PM) But I want Cy McCarthy! He's going to win 1 Cy Young and 15 Brandon McCarthys! /giggling about the naysayers from that trade That said, Danks is looking pretty damn good out there right now and is holding his own against one of the top divisional teams so far. That trade is the type of deal that I think the odds are greater that it works out even to a steal for the Sox as opposed to the other way around. The Sox got two very talented arms and a very raw 3rd arm while giving up one good arm but without the upside of the two arms the Sox got. I can't believe how people could be so upset with that trade but I understand since Bmac was one of the first home grown pitchers to come up to the big league level and have actually have some success.

White Sox vs. Twins, 4/8/07 (L)
QUOTE(G&T @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 11:58 AM) Another K for Danks. Attacked the zone. That was a nasty change. I really like Danks. He gets guys to miss the sweet spot on a bat and that is a good skill to have. Obviously we'll see him have his rough days and he has a lot left to learn but he's got a lot of potential and almost as importantly he's got a good head on his shoulders (and with pitching, you better have a good head on your shoulders, especially if your planning on having any sort of success at a young age).

White Sox vs. Twins, 4/8/07 (L)
I don't think anyone was expecting a 7 inning outing out of him. He'll probably go about 5. The Sox are going to be careful with this kid and considering his nerves I'd be surprised to see him go more than 5-6.
