  1. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) With Major League baseball, I can remember from Bowie Kuehn (spelling?) on, and Selig is the worst. On the other hand Fay Vincent was pretty bad. I actually think that overall Selig is one of the best comissioners the game has had. He's had some minor slips (definately the 94 strike) but as a whole he's been a very good GM. Heck, the addition of the Wild Card alone makes him one of the greatest comissioners ever in my book. I can't even imagine baseball without the new divisional alignments and the wild card (it makes things even more exciting than it used to be).
  2. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) Pierre in CF, Fields and in LF. Sweeney gets another year in AAA and is insurance in case Fields cannot handle it. Trade Anderson with Garcia for something? Maybe a young mets pitching prospect or bullpen help. I think if you have Pierre/Fields/Dye in the OF than Sweeney would come in and get a lot of AB's off the bench (of course than you also have BA to factor in and its worthless to have 3 prospects all up at the major league level while only one gets substantial AB's, meaning at least one of these guys should be dealt over the off-season).
  3. Its great to see him actually getting some experience in LF. I think over the long haul he projects as a potential long term option out there. However, I still think Fields has some flaws in his swing that need to be corrected, but he is a darn good all around athlete (especially for a guy with his power). He's also surprisingly quick for a man of his size (he's kind of stubby).
  4. Lance threw a lot of innings so it made sense to give him an entire off-season. Whisler on the other hand missed some time with injuries and finally appeared to get healthy so it will be interesting to see how he does in the fall league (he needs the innings). Gonzalez and Cook are non prospects as is Malone and well Day may be solid but I refuse to call him a top prospect. Basically we sent Whis/Russ/Day and a couple scrubs to the AFL as opposed to some more highly touted players (not that we have many).
  5. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) Is there any serious talk of us getting Ichiro? I love that guy. He's being wasted in Seattle. How bout Brandon and Fields for Ichiro? I mean this is Ichiro?? While Ichiro is one of my favorite players to watch in the majors, I just see the acquisition price being a net negative (we'd give up more than we'd get in return) and therefor I see no logical way for us to get Ichiro and become a better team (unless of course we plan going to a Yankee like payroll).
  6. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) Thanks guys. Slavko.... One of the best birthdays I've ever had since I have someone to share it with now. You know ima party all this week and next. QUOTE(Soxy @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 07:36 AM) At least she didn't ask you to be Tinkerbell. . . Hell, I told her I'd rather be tinkerbell than wear those lame tights It would be like a previous costume of mine where I dressed up as a school girl.
  8. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 07:39 AM) I played "Smear the *****" in gradeschool. (PS: Yes I know the title isn't "P.C." but that IS what it was called) When I was in 3rd grade (roughly 1991), we played TACKLE football. My friend broke his collar bone, but still. We WERE allowed to play it. Note: Edited by Tex. And there was always red-rover as well. I did all of the games you said, plus there was ditch em and other games. Of course one of my fav's was capture the flag but that was just a more high tech sneaky version of tag in a sense. Truly lame of that school. I absolutely loved playing big games of tag in parks.
  9. Lyons will be staying on with the Dodgers.
  10. Squat. Valido is a defensive stud, Lopez and Gonzalez can also play very good defense. However, none of them are very good hitters. Getz is the best offensive/defensive player we have but he doesn't have a high ceiling. That said he's a solid defensive 2nd baseman.
  11. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) Now that some details have been released its more than just Uribe saying he didn't do it. He says he has witnesses, his gun won't match the one that was fired, the blackmail. Knowing people, especially in other countries, I believe him. I feel a lot better about it. I hope it turns out that what he's saying is true because I love watching the guy play.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) But the problem is, he really has nothing more to do or prove at triple A. And if we keep him on the major league team, having him on the bench will just stunt his growth further. So either he needs to be our starting CF to begin the season or we need to trade him. I think R&W is saying that if you can upgrade in CF you do it, you don't just sit around expecting Anderson to become great. I know one thing, I think he can be great defensively in CF, but that doesn't mean he'll be a good player. Considering our other option was Mack, BA should have been playing everyday. However, if we have the ability to upgrade to someone who can do both I see no harm in doing it because I don't think BA has shown enough of anything to ever think he'll be a solid major leaguer (thats still a big question-mark). That said I know he has power potential and stolen base potential so if he can correct his holes he can be a Torri Hunter type player.
  13. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 08:48 PM) ^^^^^ SoxTalk hype on Podsednik's defense. The guy's an absolute joke in the field and he was a joke on the basepaths last year to boot.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) I'm getting conned into going as Peter Pan since that's the only main charecter missing in their group. ROFL, my girlfriend wanted me to go as Peter Pan with her as tinkerbell and I was like screw that.
  15. Drop it, everyone drop it. Lets get back to the issue/subject at hand which involves Uribe and handcuffs and no I'm not talking about him handcuffing himself at the plate when he jams himself.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) Exactly. If Kenny did give Oz what he wants,(Pierre) I would pray to God KW lays out the plan for Ozzie, that he is our LF, not the CF... Say it again, our new LF, not CF... Either way its a serious upgrade over Pods in LF or Mack in CF so count me in. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) I just wish that somehow our team could actually focus on finding a leadoff hitter who actually fits with the makeup of the rest of the team. We have a murderous 3-4-5 with a ton of power. We hit a sh*t load of home runs. Stealing bases in front of those type of guys does not have nearly as high of an impact on run production as simply being on base. It's not a bad thing if you're not thrown out a lot, but it's not going to be the end-all-be-all. If you could find me a LF/SS with an OBP somewhere above .350 or .360, I'd be very happy...and spend the rest of my money on pitching. The problem is, when we weren't hitting HR's and against good pitching its harder to hit HR's, we were unable to manufacture any runs. With some speed we may lose a few bigger innings by running out of things, but we will have more capabilities to score in games where its hard to come by runs (ie the one's where we are going up against a top notch pitcher and aren't able to slam a few Hr's).
  17. With all our HR power, why not just play Pierre in left and have him replace Pods. I have zero problem with it because he's the exact sort of guy we need to have in our lineup if Ozzie is going to continue to be our manager (which he will).
  18. QUOTE(beautox @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) Fair enough he will be making 1/2 of his starts in the (Bronx#27), but he will have to pitch at the Rogers Centre(#7), Tropicana Field(#11), Fenway(#13), Camden Yards(#17) while facing a DH in a superior league. His ERA will go up .5-1.5 brining his ERA to 4-5.5, and i imagine his BB rate would stay the same while his SO rate would drop down a significant amount. Park Factor Link But do you really put Zambrano on the same level as Johan? Yes and I'd be shocked if 99% of baseball exec's wouldn't do the same. I'm not saying he's as good as Johan (Johan's the best in baseball) but he's the premiere pitcher in the NL as far as I'm concerned and would be the 2nd best pitcher in the AL.
  19. QUOTE(beautox @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) Those numbers scream to me that he will get eaten alive in the AL, and for further proof look at his splits against AL teams. I will say this again Zambrano to the AL = Josh Beckett x 2, and which Santana are you talkin about, I surely hope Ervin; because if your talking about Johan I'm at a loss for words. EDIT: spelling. On another note, if Alex does void his NTC doesn't an opition year get added onto his contract because of the CBA just like Thome and Vazquez? so we would have him under contract till 2011? I will point out that Beckett pitched in a notorious pitchers park while Carlos has done what he has in a hitters park.
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 05:41 AM) Adrian Beltre got just under $13 mill a year and a limited no trade clause over 5 years for 1 outstanding season and gold glove defense. What makes you think Joe Crede can't get the same contract with 2-3 years of very good offensive years and gold glove defense? I should add that Beltre's season was arguably the best single season ever by a 3rd baseman.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 07:46 AM) I would guess that Lou will at least reconsider ALL of the coaching staff. I am sure that Rothschild will be on the list for Lou to think about possibly removing. Well Roth was a part of Lou's staff in Cinncy, IIRC.
  22. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) It wouldn't surprise me if Dusty Baker got the job. It would shock me. A, the A's aren't gonna spend a ton of money for a manager (especially when they are already paying Macha 2 mill) and B, Baker isn't going to just sit there and be told what to do by Beane. If I were a proven mgr (and Baker is that, even though he didn't actually do that great with the Cubs) there is absolutely no way I'd take the A's job. In fact, I'd do all I could not to take that job, unless my only other choice was something like the Dray job.
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 01:42 AM) The Cubs would probably have to include the likes of Ramirez, Rich Hill and Scott Eyre to at least get the Yanks thinking about an offer. But I'm still on the Garcia and Crede for A-Rod deal bandwagon if there's going to be a deal done here. Isn't Ramirez expected to buy out of his contract and become a free agent? I know the talk out here is the Angels may very well make a push at signing Aramis. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) I honestly think A-Rod would go back to SS. And they would either sign a FA or bring up Josh Fields. Also, there's a pitcher out there we may want to consider: Doug Davis. had a down year this year, but had a hell of a year last year. Just throwing that out there. Oh yeah, and Jason...NO TO MANNY! Pods was difficult enough to watch in LF...I couldn't even imagine watching Manny being Manny. Manny is vastly superior to Pods in lf. The only major knock when it comes to Manny's defense is whether he tries. When he does try (which contrary to popular belief is most of the time) he's actually pretty darn solid out there. Now I don't know how he'd do having to cover a bit more ground (not having the monster) but he is very very good at getting off quick and accurate throws and actually throwing guys out. I watched a lot of Manny in LF this past year and my opinion of his defense greatly changed and I now thing he's a better fielder than anyone gives him credit for. QUOTE(beautox @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) I posted this over at WSI but i was wondering what everyone here thinks. Anyone else think that Zambrano coming to the AL would make him the new Josh Beckett? He would no longer be able to bean/walk the #7 hitter to face a weak hitting catcher, and then an equally weak hitting pitcher to get out of a Jam. I have a hard time seeing him being successful in an organization like the Yankees where the FO, fan base and media puts accountability on their players, look what he did on a 96 loss cub team. Zambrano's '06 ERA 3.41 WHIP 1.29 BAA .208 IP 214 115BB/210SO with 9HBP 20HRs GO/AO 1.28 Beckett's '05 ERA 3.37 WHIP 1.18 BAA .234 IP 178.2 58BB/166SO with 7HBP 14HRs GO/AO 1.14 Are you kidding me. Zambrano is one of the more ridiculously great pitchers in the game. Aside from Santana, I think he's the best pitcher in baseball. Plus he's a total beast/work horse.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Neither is Alex. Dye didn't excel out of the 3 spot and neither did the offense. The offense basically started to sputter when Jermaine was moved to the 3 hole. Now I doubt there is a direct correlation there but it certainly wasn't something that was going to make our lineup a whole lot better like some people thought. Arod may just find himself in the 2 spot in that situation.
  25. Beane continues to be an egocentric prick. Never gives a manager enough credit (of course too many people give mgr's too much credit).
