Sox @ Cubs - July 1
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) God, what a terrible, terrible trade that was. Its not a terrible trade, but if Chris Young lives up to his potential, it could go down as one of the worse in franchise history. However, if Vazquez pitches like Coop, KW and a lot of people (who I happen to think are wrong) think he can, well in that case its a good deal for the Sox. I just don't see it happening, mainly because I'm not a fan of his attitude.

Sox @ Cubs - July 1
QUOTE(beautox @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) the reason it happened is because, KW doesn't want to pay a preimum for pitching, Garland and Count hadn't signed their 3yr contracts, and it was a move both out of panic and point. Count's agent kept misinforming him until KW finally had a heart to heart with him. that is why we Got Vazquez. I totally understand that. I still have my doubts as to whether that really is the reason why Count and Garland signed. I think we all know Count was misinformed from his agent (Jose found out about the supposed offer and called Kenny asking him about it and that went really quickly) and I think Jon would have signed. I do understand that point and it did work if in fact we wouldn't have signed those guys (or been able to) without the added pressure of having Vazquez. But I'm not a fan of trading an upper echelon prospect at a "need" position along with a pretty damn solid reliever who can throw a lot (Vizcaino) for a 5th starter with some baggage who was good a few years back. And by baggage I refer to the fact that he b****ed and moaned in NY and than when he was sent to LA (that wasn't good enough for him) so he ends up in Arizona and demands a trade again. I'm sorry, but Vazquez is a crying baby and thats what has long pissed me off about acquiring him. Plus we took a guy like Brandon (who was key for us down the stretch; we don't make the playoffs without his performances) and converted him into the pen when we could have just let him grow (into a far better pitcher than the current Vazquez is) all while having a legit reliever throwing out of the pen (Viz as opposed to Bmac) and a little more money (although I was a fan of getting rid of Duque and I think we'd have found a taker either way for him and been able to pick up some sort of bullpen arm, even if it was a raw one).

Sox @ Cubs - July 1
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) You know you suck when Jason starts clowning you. Good post! I will say this, any team in baseball would be glad to have him as there 5th starter, the problem is we have really high expectations for our rotation and for Vazquez since we gave up a very very promising player in Chris Young (the type that doesn't come around very often). We also stunted the growth over a very promising pitching prospect (Brandon McCarthy and may have messed up his long term future by throwing him the pen). But I have never been as enamored with Vazquez as a lot of people have. I get enamored with guys when they struggle because of control or something else, Vazquez really doesn't walk that many people or have problems with that so I had my doubts as to what Coop could do. Mentally I don't think Javier gets it and he pitches with runners on all day long or so it seems.

Sox @ Cubs - July 1
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) He's been bad all year. Period. Technically that isn't true, for the first two months of the season you could argue that he was the most consistent starter we had next to Jose Contreras.
-
I think it is time....
Vazquez and prospects for Shields and Figgins would be a pretty sweet little deal. If we had to take on some of Weaver's contract (just to make the Angels happy, than thats fine too). Put Mac in the rotation (somewhere he belongs and we can end that experiment and hopefully get him back to where he was last year, which was a pitcher that was pretty darn good).

Sox @ Cubs - July 1
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 1, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) Still waiting for the Vazquez apologist to come back and defend their man. Who would possibly defend this turd. He's been s*** for a few seasons and is vastly overpaid and his stuff is vastly over-rated. I'm not saying he doesn't have good stuff, but its far from some of the best in baseball (despite what some people think). People are still thinking of Javier from Montreal and he's not near the pitcher he was than. Not to mention he's got no cohonies. But thats coming from someone who was left shaking his head when we made the deal. Not necessarily cause I hated it, more because I didn't get it.

Valido sent to Winston-Salem
He has really struggled this year and I hope he can get healthy and get his swing/confidence back in A ball and than come back to AA for a little while late in the season.
-
Ray Liotta
Liotta is one of those guys that I don't think makes Kenny's 3 or 5 year lists and will be moved eventually.
-
Fabio Castro
Fabio is a really talented lefty and it was a good move by the Rangers and the Phillies. The thing that really irks me is I really think we could have gotten some good value for him since we had to know we weren't going to be able to sneak him past teams during the rule V. Fabio is officially gone cause there is no way he'll ever get through waivers and come back to the southside this year.

Portugal finally getting a few chances late in this overtime as they are into injury minutes. Well now its finite...its going to penalty kicks. England and Portugal even through 2 kicks (both have sunk 1). England missed the first Portugal the 2nd Bot miss the 3rd kicks so its still even. Portugal makes this one and they win. Ricardo (Portugal's goal keeper) has been amazing. Christian Renaldo makes it and Portgual wins.

Amanda Beard
Wow she got a lot hotter. She's from Irvine (where I live) and I remember what a big deal it was years ago when she killed in the olympics (the first time when she was pretty young).

NBA Offseason Talk
QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 08:44 PM) Wow, I think that's a pretty good deal for both teams. Each player has his own downside -- Villanueva w/ questions about his work ethic and willingness to improve; Ford w/ his back problems (Is one season enough to state they won't reoccur?). Though, if neither of the potential problems occur, they'll both be very solid, possibly All-Star players. Not at all a big Villanueva fan so I think the Raptors really did well on that move. They have quite a few bigs that play a similar game and were able to get a point guard that can create a lot of things. He's still a bit raw from having missed pretty much a full season from an injury, but I like this move a lot for the Raptors. And this will be nice for the BUcks I guess, since now Bogut will have another low post player with him.

Germany, Italy, Brazil are right now the 3 best teams in the world. We'll see if it stands, but Argentina didn't look as good against Mexico and than lost in PK's to the Germans (albeit a home field advantage, but thats something you have to figure in anyway). England and Portugal battling in the 1st half of overtime. England playing a man short because Rooney was red-carded in the 62nd minute or so. England has played better and has missed quite a few prime situations where they could have had "easy" goals.

chone figgins
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) If the cost of Figgins was something along the lines of Mackowiak, Jerry Owens and Ray Liotta, I could see the sox biting. Mack could help the Angels now with his versatility and power, and Owens and Liotta for the near future. No one in there right mind would really want Owens at this point unless we are giving up some top notch players along with him or getting a pretty crappy player in return. Whether Owens is a prospect at this stage is considered questionable since he's doing terrible in the minors and can't play anywhere but left field (despite what Ken Williams hinted at over the off-season). The Angels won't make any deals with us unless they get a guy like Josh Fields (him and McPherson could battle out for 3rd) or someone like Sweeney (they actually could use a quality outfielder) of course the thing they could use most is a center fielder and a legit one at that. Brian Anderson and than some could be what it costs to get Figgins. And don't underestimate the value Anderson could bring, the Angels are freaking terrible defensively and have by far the worse outfield defense in baseball. Every one of those fielders are substandard. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) If a trade for Figgins is to occur, it's going to happen in mid-to-late July, when the Angels are (hopefully) a little further out of the race. I'd imagine they're going to stick it out and see if they can't get back in the race. If they are way out, he's going to be very available...not sure how they feel about McPherson anymore, so it's hard for me to say how much interest they'd have in Fields. Haven't looked up Dallas stats in the past week or so and he didnt play at the last Angel game I was at, but I know for a few week period he was on a tear and his AVG was really climbing. As long as he stays healthy, he'll be a very good player, but I do think they'd have some interest in a guy like Fields because he could play 3rd, 1st, or LF (he could make the move).

How about a new back up catcher?
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 30, 2006 -> 07:57 AM) Seriously, I like Stewart to come up before we make a trade for an effing backup cather. I was going to say this exact same thing. Stewart isn't a starting caliber catcher, but he's made a lot of strides with his offense and is one of the best defensive catchers in the minors. He's got a stron arm with a quick release, calls a solid game, and does a good job blocking the plate. Offensively he's mediocre at best, but I do think he'll be our backup starting next year (and we'll definately see him when rosters get expanded)

Ummm.. pants too tight?
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) Because it's what I do... Speaking of which, I'm going to be at next Thursday and next Saturday's Sox games. Dont' know if your in town or not than. Most of the time I'll be with my family (in for a family reunion) but I am splitting from them for at least those games

Jenks Slider
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) What great scouting by Dave Wilder and company. Seeing the potential he had and then seeing that he was probably MLB ready pitching in AA in the middle of June/July? Major props to the scouting staff with Jenks. I guess some scouting was needed in terms of saying he was ready for the majors, but it doesn't take an idiot to go watch this guy throw the ball once and realize he has one of the best arms in the biz. You could probably take a 10 year old off the street that has played baseball a few times and all you'd have to say is that he hits 100 on the gun from tiem to time and can throw a mean breaking ball.

QUOTE(sti3 @ Jun 27, 2006 -> 09:15 AM) Can someone look at the below post and tell me wtf's wrong with my quoting? my eyesore of a post Oh my...Fabregas fan, is that the old catcher who caught for the Sox for a short time and also for the Angels. Superman Returns
As I said in the films thread, it was a fantastic movie. One of the best movies I've seen in a wihle (especially considering most everything as of late has been garbage). Not quite Batman Begins, but on a similar level.

Kenny in Pittsburgh
Even while he's stinking, the Pirates aren't going to give up Perez without getting some top notch talent in return, imo. Otherwise they might as well hold onto Oliver and see if they can get things solved themselves. Hernandez is a possibility but Kenny makes a ton of trips with the team (as I think Dickallen alluded to).

Jenks Slider
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jun 28, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) OK, he started using a cutter, even better.....now he is using a 100MPH fastball, 97 MPH Cutter, 94 MPH Slider and a 87 MPH offspeed pitch. Teach him the knuckler and we may have something. He'll also throw in a heavy sinker from time to time, although he doesn't use it too often. The guy has a lot of pitches that are considered plus pitches, its just as a closer he really only uses a few of them. I just hope he stays heatlhy for us, if he does that and throws strikes he could go down as one of the all time great closers (That said I have my doubts as to how long he'll be able to stay healthy).
