I'm in the process of heading in during early July and looking up tickets there are pretty much no lowers for some of the games in the Bmore series and obviously Boston is sold out.

Ya, we are going to work on getting a few more people involved in our updating process. Boz has been awesome as of late and Greasy is now being taught the ways from Boz. We also have had some great commentaries from Alex and Mike as well as scooped a story or two. In the future we will start having some short series previews as a way for people to keep up with things and we will also start linking people to yahoo recaps. That way Soxtalk can really be a place you can come and find all the news (a recap to see what happened...written by the AP, a preview by us talking about the other team...updated standings on the front page...plus original commentaries and the ocassional breaking news story).

Just to verify...nothing else needs to be deleted, correct rooftop. Just want to make sure since the last thing I want is for personal info to be spread via the site on a accident.

QUOTE(Wanne @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:41 PM) 13) What is the biggest blunder in White Sox franchise history? 1917: Sox replace first baseman Jacques Fournier with Chick Gandil. Gandil was the lesser player and the Black Sox ringleader. 1959-1960: Bill Veeck trades prospects for veterans. Off went Norm Cash, Johnny Callison, and others, and away went three or four pennants. 1981: Letting broadcaster Harry Caray get away. Cubs win! Sox lose! 1985: Hiring broadcaster Hawk Harrelson as general manager. In just one season, Harrelson managed to turn Carlton Fisk into a left fielder AND fire Tony La Russa. 1992: Trading Sammy Sosa to Cubs for George Bell. Must anything else be said? Got some more to add?..... The only one that pops into my head at the moment is Kip Wells, Josh Fogg and Lowe for Todd Ritchie :puke Technically speaking, Wells had about 2 solid seasons and none of the other guys in that deal ever did anything (fogg had about 1-2 solid seasons as well).

The original reason gave here was because Baines wanted more face time since this was going to be his final year with the Sox (either he was going to retire or try and find a better coaching gig). However, he just signed an extension so I honestly have no idea why Baines is out there now. Raines was a better baserunner and is far more knowledgable when it comes to that aspect of the game, so I figure he'd be the better base coach.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) I could be completely wrong about this but it seems like Kotchman has had quite a few chances and hasn't been able to hit at the major league level. Once again, I'm really not sure if that's completely right but it just seems like he's had a lot of chances. Help me out here jas. Thats the case. Koctchman has been given numerous opportunities and has failed. He isn't bad defensively nor is he great. However, I'm comparing him to Erstad who is the best defensive 1st baseman in the game. Haven't seen near enough of Morales (only saw him in Spring) so I couldn't tell you about Morales defense, but his bat is impressive and that is what the Angels need. I was expecting Kochman to turn things around this year, but I think he needs a change of scenery.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Ya, the move that killed that team was Bengie. You don't let a catcher like him walk. Not only is he a great clutch hitter and hell he was just one of their best hitters period last year, but he calls one of the best games in the al and is just a great defensive catcher. The Angels f***ed up badly this offseason and they're paying for it. I don't know if he calls a good game, but as far as the rest of it, I completely agree. Bill Stoneman doesn't have the balls to be a GM. He would make a hell of a player development guy (minor league guru). He is trying to build the org like Schurholtz (spelling???) of Atlanta. He feels the reason why the Braves have had success all these years is because they haven't been afraid to develop players while in the midst of contending. The key is to develop a few players at once though. That and make sure when you are developing players you have a good core around them (the Angels have jack s*** at pretty much all of there positions). And this is a major peeve of mine since I was about the only person ripping Stoneman the past few years all while defending Kenny for a long time. This is because I don't think a GM can succeed when he's afraid of his own shadow (SEE DAN EVANS). You need balls to win this job. You need to be able to make a move and not worry what the fans think (just be confident in your own and your baseball people's decision). Kenny got bit often, but the logic behind his moves was always there. Eventually he got things right and learned from some of his mistakes (ie not focusing enough on character...see Royce the Choice and b focusing too much on power, although I think some people overhype the fact that we are a speed team; we have speed and a way to create, but more importantly we are a far less selfish team and one that is much more willing to execute and do the little things than the Jerry Manuel teams). That and one hell of a pitching staff (which he was able to get by sacrificing a bit of offense and freeing up some payroll).

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) You've been kalapse'd. I zoned out most of this weekend with school so I just figured I missed something. Next thing you know he's going to tell me about how Caruso is on pace to break Hank Aaron's home run record.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 22, 2006 -> 11:10 PM) He got claimed off waivers by the Cubs, he's pretty much just a bench warmer, in fact he wasn't even on the active list for the Sox series, which is why you didn't see him at all. Hell I didn't even know that. I didn't realize the Marlins cut him lose after the Mariners did.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:57 PM) Yeah. They're pitching has been a little surprising to me -- I thought Weaver would be a decent bottom of the rotation pitcher (ie ERA between 4.50-5.00), and same for Santana. The offense, OTOH, has been bad now for the past year or so, and it's not going to get any better. Garrett Anderson just isn't a very good offensive player anymore. They don't have a whole lot of offensive threats -- Vlad (duh), but beyond that, nothing. Rivera has his moments, and Figgins and Kennedy are nice complimentary players, but that offense is not one to be feared. I know Stoneman has been ripped, but I think he made the right choice in not dealing away guys like Kendrick, Morales, and Wood for someone like Manny. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me to see Anahiem try to get a good prospect or two for Kennedy (among others). I'm sure the Mets would definitely be interested... The Angels were dumbs***s for letting there best clutch hitter walk away when they could have just offered him arb and kept him for one more year (he would have stayed). I am referring to Bengie Molina. We all knew that piece of s*** Jose Molina couldn't hit and when your offense sucked as it was last year, you couldn't afford to lose your best clutch hitter and replace him with his turd of a brother and a prospect like Jeff Mathis, who wasn't prepared to play. I realize they have an amazing farm system, but not all of those guys will pan out. They have made countless mistakes and they have the money and when you have this type of payroll you need to be competing. They could have easily picked and chose a couple prospects and dealt one or two of there top guys for some bats. I am surprised the pitching has crumbled to a point. I figured Weaver would be solid for the Angels. I've never been a big Lackey fan, but I did know they could be in trouble with injuries considering Colon had a lot of question marks entering the season (and hasn't pitched in forever now) and Escobar was banged up most of last year. The pitching was over its head last year, otherwise they would have stunk than too. Quite frankly they aren't a good team and I have been saying this for a little while. Losing Molina, replacing them with his crap brother, all while there pitching suffered some injuries and it spells a bad season. They may just finish last so they betterh ope they can get those guys developed quickly, otherwise they may take a major hit to the season ticket base that they have built up (they need to get things back next year and that may mean acquiring a bat or two this year in preperation for next year). Had they got Konerko, things may have been a whole lot better. Erstad...Kochman....Kennedy (not that he's bad)...Anderson....Rivera/Salmon....Molina all need to be removed from the starting lineup and replaced with a legit player. In Kennedy's case, he will be gone because of the dirth of prospects the Angels have in the middle infield. The Angels also need to see if McPherson can stay healthy and turn into a 3rd baseman. Figgins and Vladdy are the only two legit players they have offensively (along with Kennedy). Anderson is a lazy POS in the field and a mediocre hitter thanks to all his injuries. Erstad is a garbage CF and a mediocre hitter while Kochman needs to be dealt somewhere else (Let Morales play 1st).

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ May 7, 2006 -> 06:22 PM) I was always taught that SATs was more important, but it appears more schools value the ACT these days. That's good news for me I guess because everyone in my school has been raking the ACTs with 30's and above. When I graduated SATS were the big thing, but now I found out people get 2000's (and i look puzzled thinking 1600 was a perfect score). Apparently things changed. I remember taking both the SAT's and the SAT II's. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 21, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) So while I was fly-fisghin in Wisconsin, I get a call from my sis. Yes, the package has arrived and I got.... :drumroll: a 26! Whoot! Congrats Slav

QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) As long as he can throw strikes, he is going to be an asset. This was a great move by KW. Thornton+Mackowiak > Marte+Borchard. Considering Borch is already out of Seattle and the fact that we were able to get a young lefty that can throw 97 MPH...well I'll take my chances on that move any day of the week. If we could convert just a few of those type of guys, we'd be in business.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) Man is the game changing. Mavs and Suns to battle it out to see who goes to the finals? The days of needing dominant bigs and playing elite defense to win titles look just about over. Now I will be rooting for whichever team comes out of the West. I like Cuban and Dirk and am a big Nash fan. Plus I think the Suns are fun to watch. On the other hand, Pistons = Bulls rivals and well I'm not a big fan of the Heat (even though I'm a huge Shaq fan). -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) He still needs a secondary pitch. He has been better than I expected, which is encouraging. But a few dominant outings, then a few wild terrible ones, has been his style for his entire career. Until he cuts the wild ones out, and finds a secondary pitch so that the longball isn't a problem, I'm not putting him in many high-leverage situations. He is tantalizing though. The nice thing is Cooper has had a good history with guys improving there changeups when joining our organization. It seems to be a strenght of our coaching staff and a nice changeup to compliment Thorntons pedestrian (yet good enough when mixed with his fastball) slider would make him pretty much unhittable (if he can continue to improve his command). I love Thornton stuff and you can see he's just a hell of a lot more confident with the Sox. Ozzie has shown faith in Matt and Matt has responded. Part of it is the fact that Coop seems to be excellent at teaching the mental game of pitching and getting the pitchers to have confidence in there stuff. It seems like too many pitchers out think themselves and think they have to make the perfect pitch, when in reality if they throw strikes and change locations they not only don't have to make the perfect pitch (rather just consistently paint the zone while changing locations and speed) and not only will you be sucessful when you make those pitches, but because you are hard to lock in on, you will get away with the mistakes you make (and every pitcher, no matter how good they are, makes mistakes). The good ones are so good that a hitter often times can't get the mistake because he's so concerned with trying to protect all the plate.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 22, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) You're never as good as you look when you're playing your best, and you're never as bad as you look when you're playing your worst. The Dodgers are getting ridiculous pitching right now and good hitting, and they're catching teams that are falling flat (the Angels for example). Angels aren't falling flat, they are playing about as good as they are (ie s***ty).

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 22, 2006 -> 09:33 PM) Agreed. I'm looking forward to seeing what Nelson can do. It is going to be really interesting to see how Logan reacts to the minors. Will he dissapear never to be seen again or will he regain the rhythm he had in spring training and gain much needed experience that could turn him into a quality reliever later this season or a year from now? I think we'll be able to find out pretty quickly (a month or so) whether he was just road a hot hand farther than pretty much anyone in major league history or if he actually created a career for himself when he changed his arm angle and he will actually continue to improve.
